Nostalgia Analysis Part 19: Go-onger (2000s Sentai)

Well here's Go-onger and while I think it's not really a bad series but it's just not that appealing either.  However some people like the series and I'm writing this for them.  Here's some nostalgia for all you Go-onger-natics!!!!

Liveman by the surface with the first five members except the yellow ranger is a girl and the blue ranger is a boy.  But still I can see the color coding there.

Some may get reminded of Carranger although for Fantasy Leader, Carranger is way better. Some say kinda alike.  Well Carranger hardly hit slapstick, IMO Go-onger did.  But the concept of being funny is there.  Also like Carranger it was also vehicle oriented but it was crossed with animals.

The environmental theme may remind us of such concerns in some past Sentai episodes which focused against a pollution scheme (ex. Mika finding the Gear Empire's plans to pollute the Earth, Chevalier's scheme to use a monster to pollute the Earth).  In here, it's all focused on pollution schemes throughout.  I would also compare it to Captain Planet in its theme of environmental protection throughout the show except they didn't use the five elements in Captain Planet.

Sosuke joins the ranks of idiotic reds who drove racing cars like Ban and Kyousuke.  Idiots with a heart of gold.  Although I think Ban and Sosuke are kinda closer.

The Go-ongers' engines would remind us of Disney's movie Cars.

IMO the humor of Go-onger can go as campy to corny like it did as MMPR had its ups and downs until it went downhill and also, Renn seems to be another Billy in the group (an unbalanced nerd) except a  parody at best.  Maybe that's another factor what PR-Sentai fans didn't like but that's just me while some may have liked it for its MMPR-esque type of campiness.  Also, the Go-ongers adapted the idea of having spandex suits on and taking off their helmets from MMPR to which again, could be another reference.  Of course, I'd never fail to give credit that Go-onger actually also had a special with Santa Claus except theirs was more action filled, MMPR's was just sloppily done IMO.  Well, but it'd be unfair not to give credit to MMPR for some elements.

Or call me crazy but I think the show does remind me of Spongebob's humor at times.  I might make an analysis for this soon.  In my opinion Sosuke is like Spongebob, Hant is like Patrick and Hiruto is like Squidward.  Forced?  Yeah but maybe it's because I'm seeing people I know personally watch this show and scream like Spongebob and Patrick.

Missed any?  Let me know!

  1. Carranger had it's fair share of slapstick.

Kyousuke isn't a screaming red Sean.

I honestly don't see how any of the characters from Go-onger are like Spongebob. Nor do I see how this is nostalgic in any way. Hant like Patrick? That makes no sense at all. That comparison is forced at best, sorry to say.
