My Own Take On "The Secrets Of King Racules" Mini-Series
Finally, I completed The Secrets of (Idiot) King Racules. I guess this guy's going to be probably that Comically Serious villain that's gonna be a meme lord of sorts. Each episode is around nine minutes long so combining them into one episode forms into a short movie. I guess he's probably become a Breakout Villain so I'm not surprised if he's going to return as a neutrally-aligned villain like many old Super Sentai series. That I'd like has extremely high entertainment value more than the Bugnarok or the King-Ohgers themselves IMHO.
The spin-off gives certain details before the series and between the second and third episodes. The mini-series presents a more scheming side of Racules. Sure, we saw him in his dumbest moment when he made a peace treaty with the Bugnarok. In this one, he's in his more serious, scheming self. He hires Vedalia, a scientist on death row, to help him research more about the history of Shugoddom. We also get to see the origins of Kuwagata-Ohger Zero as a bootleg Shugod (since it's not the real deal and a villainous illegal reproduction like Gavan Bootleg) meant to counteract the real deal.
It was amusing to see Racules' interaction with Shidejim. Shidejim was found to have possessed the body of the convict scientist Vedalia. The form reminds me of Kamen Rider Ghost. I guess the show's not going to stop making Mythology Gags to Kamen Rider. One of the monsters was even resembling Kamen Rider BLACK and did a Rider Pose. I guess there's the intention to make us think of Vedalia was a ghost from the start. Racules did request to be tried for murder at Gokkan's court. However, Rita acquitted him due to insufficient evidence.
I was expecting to see what caused Racules to go evil. Episode 3 didn't reveal that as it might be too early. Kind of weird since the series gives the early revelation that Racules and Gira are brothers. I guess they wanted a full-season sibling rivalry. What caused Racules to fall into the dark path hasn't been fully revealed. However, it's already hinted here that Racules had started to suspect "Boshimar" of being Kamejim in disguise. Kamejim later admitted that he murdered the real Boshimar. The fan theory is partly right in saying Kamejim was in disguise as Boshimar. What wasn't guessed was that the real Boshimar has died for some time. I guess we'll never see a flashback of Boshimar's death as some characters tend to die off-screen. Some deaths tend to be spoken only in narration presumably because the death scene filmed didn't make the cut.
It also shows Racules' pragmatic villainy. He doesn't spare Kofuki out of mercy but because of practicality. He still wants to find more of Shugoddom's secrets for himself. Hopefully, this will form a bridge that may allow him to return as a neutrally-aligned villain.
