Kiramager 21: Fishing Game

Image
This week's Kiramager episode has Naruhisa Arakawa back on track. Speaking of fishing - I could remember some past fishing episodes in Abaranger and Shinkenger. This one though has people getting fished out for some stupid scheme by Yodoheim. One reason that I still tend to enjoy Toku (even if it's not as much these days) is the sight-seeing. Carranger brought us to Nasou Kogen resort. This one features the Shinagawa Aquarium though Japan may not be very open for tourism yet.    Meanwhile, Shiguru is really what I'd call the show trying to insert Hoji from Dekaranger into ToQGer. Bright in ToQGer was more of the nerdy type. Shiguru is tactical. Shiguru senses that a Yodon Jamen Beast was in that area.  Just as suspicions were confirmed - a new Jamen Beast shows up. This one starts fishing people back and forth. Abaranger had that crazy two-partner where an Anime character known as Koitaro gets fished out. Now, it's time for this crazy plan to start fishing people. I won...

Super Sentai Seasons That Got Sandwiched In Between Better Seasons

Image
Super Sentai is a series that's got its ups and downs. It's actually beneficial to watch both old school and new school to have a better understanding of the series. Now, I'd like to list some Super Sentai seasons which I felt got sandwiched in between better seasons.  Dengekitai JAKQ After Himitsu Sentai Goranger became a hit - JAKQ just didn't get enough love and it only ended in 35 episodes. Yes, it was a pretty rushed season after Goranger ran for TWO YEARS. Yes, two years but it's still a little more merciful than Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers running for three years! Anyway, JAKQ as a series just really didn't get that popular that a one-year hiatus for Sentai came. It didn't help that Battle Fever J (the series that put Super into Super Sentai) came in further overshadowed it.  Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger After Chikyu Sentai Fiveman nearly ended Super Sentai - Chojin Sentai Jetman came to the rescue. Jetman became A Tough Act to Follow. I felt that ...

Kiramager 20: Dangerous Pair

Image
This week's episode is written by Ayumi Shino. I find this week to be somewhat inspired by Shinkenger's sticky episode but not really. This causes some hilarious hijinks for Juuru. So, I'm wondering is Naruhisa Arakawa on a break or what?  The beginning starts with supplementary lessons. Yes, Chinese characters are written there because Japanese kanji involves Chinese characters too. So how did they get into there? It's not explained but a girl way back in episode one shows up again. Well, Juuru does storm out but is forced to keep silent about his ranger identity.   It goes get laughable when Glue Jamen starts sticking things around. The Shinkenger episode had people getting stuck. Here, people are stuck to objects. This time, it's not two rangers stuck with each other but a ranger stuck to a civilian. This gets funny in some way. Juuru hesitates to un-morph. Mizuki discovers all the famous people and then Juuru? Well, Takamachi does break it out loud. Juuru has NO...

Kiramager 19: The Weirdest Body Swap Episode Yet

Image
Well, sorry for the late update due to personal issues. Anyway, here it is and this week has Kaori Kaneko as the writer. The big question is has Toei decided to finally give Naruhisa Arakawa a break? Hopefully, though I wouldn't mind if Yasuko Kobayashi becomes a guest writer because of ToQGer. Anyway, this week's episode is sort of zany as mecha and humans switch bodies. Juuru is tasked to become an art teacher to a group of children. Wait, wut? Isn't he still underaged for that task? Anyway, it has one child doesn't want to draw. Juuru still doesn't know how to inspire that kid. Meanwhile, a new attack has the classic mind-switching cliche. Body swap was done in Fiveman and Gokaiger. Shinkenger had humans getting swapped with inanimate objects. Here, it's really funny when the Kiramagers get swapped with their own sentient mecha. It does create a lot of awkward results. So it turns out that Carantula and Garza did switch bodies for the meantime. Sumikae Jamen ...

Kiramager 18: Falling Into Darkness

Image
This week's episode features Riku Sanjo yet again. Personally, I'd say that Sanjo actually did improve greatly with Super Sentai IMHO. While I'm still no fan of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger  (so sorry if I'm still no fan of it) - I did enjoy a lot of his other works such as Kamen Rider W and Kamen Rider Drive . This week's episode with Sanjo actually gets a bit of improvisation of the darkness theme way back in Ressha Sentai ToQGer. So, I guess I need to recognize ToQGer a lot more for providing this series ideas it can improve on. Carantula and Garza both talk of an ancient legend called Buris Liss. Okay, more Bruce Lee references? The guy's been dead for decades yet his fame lives on beyond the grave. There's a bomb stone that becomes the plot for this series.  What's interesting to know is that the Monstone inside Takamichi is corrupting him. He was in search for the Granterstones to save his adoptive sister Mabusheena. Garza goes from bad to worse when h...

Kiramager 17: Whack-A-Mole?!

Image
Well, nostalgic factor can't disappear even in the digital age, right? Well, you're probably seeing evolved whack-a-mole arcade games now. But who can't deny they did play whack-a-mole? Well, there's a new plot device here as brought by Riku Sanjo. What is it? Just read on and find out! The beginning starts with a giant mecha battle. Some Super Sentai episodes tend to do this, especially when introducing a newer, harder foe to defeat. Well, Hammer Basura is one hard MOFO and it's not going to be easy. After a well-timed retreat - it's time to discuss other stuff. It's revealed that Drijan can become Gigant Drill - a humanoid robot. Right now, Mabusheena doesn't understand yet as to why her brother hunts after treasure.  A recent even has a mysterious game host (who's too obviously a Jamen Beast) has a whack-a-mole challenge. Takamichi finds what he's looking for - it's a piece of a treasure that would grant a wish. Hmmm did Sanjo decide to co...
