Was Yasuko Kobayashi Planned To Become King-Ohger's Main Writer? (Spoilers Ahead)

Image
This is an idea that came to mind but I was hesitant to write it. I'm still stuck with Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger and not too excited about Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger -- even NOW! It's probably because King-Ohger felt so different it's more than just something new. I felt King-Ohger's innovation was highly ambitious! It felt more like a serialized Anime series than a Super Sentai . Toshiki Inoue made a comeback in Avatar Sentai Donbrothers -- something I enjoyed more than Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger . With Inoue's return -- I was excited and worried at the same time. Inoue is among the writers who got overused. I even remember a rumor that Kamen Rider Zi-O's head writer would be Yasuko Kobayashi.  As I did more research on Kobayashi -- she also wrote for Attack of Titan -- something I only discovered by researching about her! What I never realized was that some Super Sentai fans have compared it to Attack on Titan . I wonder if Toei actually planned Kobayashi to be t...

Super Sentai Mostly Self-Contained Entries VS. Power Rangers' Timeline (Save A Few Entries) May Be Due To Cultural Differences

Image
I wrote a LENGTHY entry at JEFusion (and I stopped guest-writing there) discussing the cultural differences between Super Sentai and Power Rangers . I wrote this and that but never thought of another angle until I read this OPINION piece discussing 10 areas where Power Rangers is better than its parent show . I read through it and found out the author's views included Power Rangers' inclusion of the Morphin' Grid (something that's NON-EXISTENT in Super Sentai ) and the top reason was the long-running story arcs: Entries in the Super Sentai franchise tend to be mostly self-contained, outside of team-up specials and anniversary movies. Power Rangers, however, really pushed the idea of a shared continuity, which was very satisfying for long-time fans. The first six seasons of Power Rangers essentially followed the same team throughout the years, with Rangers leaving and new Rangers joining the team as the series went on. Even when the series began introducing entirely new ...

Odd One Out: When A Ranger Is Actually FULLY Non-Human, In A Team Of Humans

Image
This week's Boonboomger gives an explosive revelation. Yes, it's that Genba is actually a cat-like alien from the planet Bureki. Was this a sudden twist or not? Given how superhero shows tend to operate -- it may or it may not. Super Sentai copies tropes here and there so I'm not too surprised. Was this an attempt to add layers or what? Genba has a grudge against Disrace who harmed the planet Bureki -- before the show even began. I realized that some rangers are uniquely non-human in a team of humans. Sure, Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger had four members who were aliens and only two were humans. Here, I'm talking about non-human rangers in a team of humans. That means half-humans like Eiji Takaoka in Gougou Sentai Boukenger aren't included.  Aside from Genba -- here are the rest you may or may not remember...  Sion from Mirai Sentai Timeranger Timeranger was the very first Super Sentai series to introduce a non-human character. Okay, in Star Wars terminology -- Sion would...
