Super sentai didn't always start with a giant robot. If one can remember Goranger and JAKQ, there was only the flying fortress. Here they are: Battle Fever J was the first to present a giant robot. It finished off enemies with a sword (which became a trademark but some primary robots later deviated from that). Unlike other robots, it was merely sent and all five rangers would just board it immediately after its launched from the Battle Shark. Daidenzin was the second giant robot. It was the first sentai transforming robot (I'll create an entry on second robots next) a trend that will follow later on. The Vulcan Robo is the first combining robot composed of two pieces. Goggle Robo was the first three piece robot. Others that followed are the Dyna Robo and Change Robo. It was the only robot not to be piloted by all five members. This is the SAD story of a monster who fell in love with a human. If you've seen Maskman, you'll realize the one who plays this tragic monster in Dairanger is none other than Ryosuke Umezo who is Red Mask. What's his real deal? As you read through this entry, you'll realize that it's no ordinary love and tragedy that took place. Though similar with Gurin Dobler, this one is quite different. He was in disguise as the media master Takamura Soichirou and he was assigned to seduce Rin or Houou Ranger but a twist happens. Instead of wanting to perform his mission for the Gorma to drain her powers using his camera (which corrupts the soul) he instead began to fall for her the more she posted for him. Bad news indeed as he fell in love with her and he proposed but never told her he was a Gorma. The two ended up in a relationship which hindered both sides and Gara was enraged. It didn't take long for him to admit before Rin he was a Gorma. At first she didn't...

While Changeman had presented its very own alien commander, here Dekaranger seems to jump and "upgrade" Commander Ibuki into Doggie Kruger- the second alien commander with a tough attitude against evil forces. He's actually not any ordinary commander- he is known as Hell's guard dog or "Cerberus" because of his tough methods which he may have used to train the Dekarangers and his rather tough experience and expertise with criminals- even more awesome than to that of Commander Ibuki in Changeman. Actually he seems to be in love with the alien Swan or he's just overprotective, I don't know but writers felt not pushing the idea too far because of the torrid nature but there's no intimacy between them. Rather it seems that the alien Swan from Chinyo (she may actually look like a bird behind that human guise) was in frequent danger of bad suitors so he must be just afraid she might land on another one. So far there were a few sentai series where the members as a team really went into outer space. These are some of them: Changeman was a classic 80s sentai that actually took the members into outer space. It happened during the final battle against the massive living planet Bazoo which they destroyed through his heart via Change Robo. The Flashmen trained in outer space and left the series for outer space due to the anti-Flash effect within them. The Fivemen trained in outer space and later returned to fight Zone. After the end of Zone, they flew back to outer space to reunite with their parents. The Ohrangers before the final battle when they went to another planet to be re-energed with the bio particles before finishing the Machine Empire. Megaranger took itself into space as their base was in space (hence Saban had it named "Power Rangers in Space"). The name Gingaman is too obvious. They fought in space for the final battles. The five Tatsumi siblings of Gogo...

One of sentai's most amazing actors should be Hiroshi Miyauchi who is popular for his role as Kamen Rider V3 for Kamen Rider fans (sadly I can't make any blog on Kamen Rider as well as this). He sang the song of Kamen Rider V3. He was also one of the earliest sentai heroes who appeared in Goranger as the blue ranger and in JAKQ as Big One. In Goranger, he featured an archer, an element that would later be integrated into future sentai. In JAKQ he was a master of disguise and an additional member, another important concept to later sentai. Other roles he would have been known are Zubat, Shukehachi in Abenero Shogun, Shunsuke Masaki in Winspector and Solbrain. He also guest-starred in Gavan as Allan. My personal favorite has to be his role in Ohranger as Chief Miura. I mean, now he takes on another henshin series and this time- no special powers. However unlike Shunsuke Masaki, his role in here is one tough person able to even best some Bara troopers with just his bare fist...

Perhaps one of the most interesting seniors in sentai is Kenji Ohba who is already in his 50s. Metal hero fans may know him as Gavan (which was probably his most popular role) in his battle against the evil Don Horror. In super sentai, he appeared as two different rangers in two different series. Though they are acted by him, they are NOT one and the same person. In both series, he portrayed two different characters rather well showing his flexibility. In Battle Fever J, he was Battle Kenya. In the succeeding series, he acted as Denzi Blue. After which, he seemingly disappeared from the big time acting to teach martial arts. He also appeared in Kamen Rider Black RX which was a series after Denziman and Battle Fever J which is of the Kamen Rider franchise. He also appeared in Gekiranger as one of the instructors namely Geki Red's father in his latest sentai appearance. Hopefully he'll guest in Shinkenger and demonstrate more moves again!

I think of all the sentai villain couplings, this is so far the first that died side by side. This is Kaiser Buldont (the son of Bacchus Wrath grown by his father's powers) and Multiwa. If we can remember the plot- the crowned price was turned into a greater power by his father and he married Multiwa to become his queen thus turning Queen Hysteria as a mother-in-law. Before that, Multiwa used one of her love arrows to use Bomber the Great as a weapon against the Ohrangers which of course ended in failure. The thing is the two of them managed to make the plans to destroy the Ohrangers s soon as possible where they devised one creative plan after the other only to be defeated. They always fought together to the extent they gave the Ohrangers a harder time than usual to defeat them. In the finale when their forces were destroyed, it came to a dramatic end when both of them were defeated for good. They both grew giant and were however defeated by the King Pyramider Battle Formati...
