Some Funny Reactions I Get From People I Introduce Super Sentai To

Image
There are always awkward but friendly reactions I expect when it comes to sharing about Super Sentai.  Pretty much, here they are... "Wow the girls in Super Sentai are usually hotter!" is a reaction I had from a friend who watches Super Sentai to watch the girls.  He cried when Ayumi Kinoshita got married. "So Super Sentai came before Power Rangers?" well is for those who are much younger than I am.  I guess they even't haven't seen MMPR either. "Woah that was fantastic!  I want to much more of Super Sentai!" could be the most funny reaction from open minded Power Rangers fans. Well I won't put all those unfair hater reactions I get in person because I really am having some mood swings lately and I hate to trigger them. =P

How I Think Super Sentai Has Affected Power Rangers in a Positive Way

Image
There's no doubt that Super Sentai is the parent show of Power Rangers.  Now looking at it for the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers, I'd also write this article.  For a similar article, click here . Yearly cast change and trying to get a little more serious.  The Zordon arc was overly extended to the point it could bore anyone sooner or later.  In fact, if I were to be a Sentai "purist" I usually skip majority of the Zordon arc to check out most of the post-Zordon arc (but I do play a bias for Kalish seasons).  Actually Lost Galaxy is one good example of the change.  It has an entirely new cast, it tried to be more serious than usual (but not crossing the TV-Y7-FV ratings) and the cast change happened every year ever since.  In fact Koichi Sakamoto from Toei was working with Saban as well in directing cool action scenes. Getting crossovers done (except during the Kalish seasons) post Zordon-arc.  In the Zordon arc, footages of Ohranger vs. ...

Villian Plots to Eat Up Humans in Super Sentai

Image
Some Super Sentai episodes did feature plots of villains to eat up humans in a rather "toned down" way but sometimes in a scary way but not to break some ratings.  Well while Japan doesn't have the TV-Y7-FV standards but there are some rules in Tokusatsu to follow if it's a kid's show. Turboranger had the episode where Dango Bouma collected humans and turned them into dumplings for Ragorn to feast on.  I really thought that episode was kind of scary considering the imagined scene where Zulten feeds it to Ragorn. Fiveman had the episode that right after Chevalier became the new captain in place of Garoa, he released the Shark-Antlion Jin to capture humans and can them?!  The other Fivemen save Gaku and Remi were turned into canned humans to where Chevalier plans to defeat the Fivemen by canning them and eating them.  It did have some nightmare fuel of thinking about the Tremors-like situation here. Zyuranger had the episode where Bandora unleashed Dora Lad...

A Common Sense Test for Those Who Thought Power Rangers Came Before Super Sentai

Image
So there are some people who think Power Rangers came first before Super Sentai but there's pretty much a common sense test here.  Aside from the common sense test to why Power Rangers isn't fake , I'll do a common sense test to those who thought that Power Rangers came first.  Now just for some starting points... and they can be shown while watching the series.  So I'm using Luna's picture here to display that misconception... and the common sense test some people failed to take before aside from reading the credits that Power Rangers acknowledges it's based on Super Sentai. First let's talk about the early 90s when Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers became a phenomenon.  So maybe you can notice some of these things like sudden change of footage quality between the Power Rangers-only scenes vs. the Toei produced scenes.  So I don't know why Saban and Toei weren't able to adjust to that challenge that time.  Now perhaps the most obvious it was...

Lighter Super Sentai Seasons, Darker Super Sentai Seasons and Power Rangers Fans

Image
I guess for some Power Rangers fans who are checking out certain seasons of Super Sentai whether it'd be pre-Zyuranger or post-Zyuranger, I guess there's the distinction between lighter seasons.  Now I'd like to share this post in response to Mr. Smith's similar entry .  I won't tackle every series as I am yet to see a lot of them completely like Abaranger and Gingaman (I only saw even less than a quarter of it).  Now moving on... For starters, let's compare Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.  I can't do much of an entire analysis of every season, honest I'm no Super Sentai wiz and I haven't seen all the series neither do I think I have all the time in the world.  Back to the topic, we will think about the two.  You could actually start with the Bandora vs. Rita Repulsa side- Bandora herself might have a comical side but her plans in Zyuranger are usually scarier.  Rita Repulsa only sought to make Kimberly avoid meeting...

Looking Up At Some Issues with Super Sentai from Last Decade Up To Present

Image
I wrote to why I think 80s-90s Super Sentai are the best eras for the genre.  Now I'd like what I think is wrong with the era lately.  Sure I might accept changes because it appeals to kids but as said, Toei needs to listen to what constructive critics of Tokusatsu have to say.  After all, constructive criticism is FEEDBACK. We all need it like it or not. Now for my own humble criticism of Super Sentai on the good side vs. bad side of these issues in Super Sentai. The mecha tends to be too focused on toys than on plot itself.  While multi-gattai was a nice concept introduced by Gaoranger (at least it had REAL plot behind most of its introductions) but the problem started with Boukenger.  Boukenger yeah I still like the series but the issue can be mecha.  I thought just too much mecha and most of them tend to weaken the drive for an older person.  Then the problem continued with Go-onger that while I don't hate it, I tend to dislike it whenever it...

Why Power Rangers Fans Who Like Super Sentai Should Also Watch Pre-Zyuranger Super Sentai!

Image
Sure there are Power Rangers fans who are checking out Super Sentai but if they're only starting with Zyuranger, they're still missing a lot.  That is, how can you actually appreciate Super Sentai if you don't check out the pre-Zyuranger ones?  Maybe they like Dairanger or Kakuranger but still like Zyuranger more, fine but as said, please give pre-Zyuranger Super Sentai a chance! Well any Power Rangers fan who's checking out Super Sentai should check out the legendary writer Hirohisa Soda's works!  The reason has to be this- he really gave Super Sentai a strong foundation that lasted for some time.  Just my thought, sure he's pretty old now but we can't discount his amazing writing styles that somehow influenced Yasuko Kobayashi, Toshiki Inoue, Naruhisa Arakawa and the late Noboru Sugimura who wrote Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger and Ohranger.  In fact, Soda's works are something you can't miss.  No Super Sentai fan should ever dare not to watch...
