I was thinking about GoGoFive and I thought about one character named Kenji Inui. He was a minor character with five episode appearances. He first appeared as a rival to Professor Mondo Tatsumi. After watching some Exceedraft and looking at the seemingly relaxed commander -- I thought about how badass Captain Shunsuke Masaki is and how I wish that the legendary Hiroshi Miyauchi were in GoGoFive for those five episodes! So what episodes did Kenji appear? They were Episode 8, Episode 20, Episode 37 and Episodes 49-50. The first episode he appeared in was where he appeared as the rival of Professor Tatsumi. Talk about what if Dr. Hoshikawa were rivals with Captain Masaki! He wanted to shut down GoGoFive until he saw the error of his ways. He ended up supporting GoGoFive but that wouldn't be the end of it. I even thought of more episodes where Miyauchi himself could have made an impact as a guest! It's already the month of March and for some countries (like the Philippines) -- it's Fire Prevention Month. With that in mind, I want to throw some super huge more throwbacks with 90s Toku. With that in mind, I think about GoGoFive which is the second sibling Super Sentai and the first rescue themed one. Now it's time to think of the Year 1990 and how two shows that year may have inspired the creation of one of my favorite Super Sentai series. 1990 was bit of a turning year. It was the rise of Metal Hero (which unfortunately declined in 1999 and died with Robotack's finale) to a whole new level. Fiveman may be the worst of Hirohisa Soda's seasons for many (and I still enjoy it though) --  it nearly ended Super Sentai ! Chojin Sentai Jetman ended up renewing everyone's interest in the franchise. It's 2018 and Kyuranger already had its finale some time ago. But if there's one thing I want to confess right now -- it's the fact that somehow my mind is still stuck in outer space in some way. Just an interesting tidbit -- I've heard that astronauts undergo some physical therapy when they get back to Earth. It's because the change of gravity can be such a huge deal after spending some time in the lightness of space. After enjoying Kyuranger last year -- I just feel like I'm still undergoing some therapy sessions as I enjoy Lupinranger vs. Patranger this year. No, I didn't really go to outer space literally -- I'm just using a bit of an obvious joke, okay? I admit, Kyuranger has its flaws and no series is perfect but I can still enjoy them nonetheless. Some tend to point out about Lucky being a weakness or being the weakness of the show. He tends to come out as Lone Starr in red spandex  or the whole "YOSHA LUCKY!" can get in some people...

This year is the 30th anniversary of Liveman. Instead of trying to write my top ten favorite episodes of this really good late 80s series -- I decided to write a bit of a reflection on Liveman as a show. It may be a Super Sentai season that makes you think on how to live. Maybe, just maybe that's the reason why Liveman is called Liveman. A few years ago, I could remember reading from Toku Warriors on Hirohisa Soda's science trilogy . The three shows that focused on them heavily are Bioman, Flashman and Liveman. Liveman itself may be summarized with the issue of balancing science, intelligence, ethics and life. This was the battle of the Liveman vs. Volt. Should I mention why I like Soda's writing is because he's the Super Sentai head writer that just loves to insert the moral lesson of the week episode? I couldn't think of a good Lupin III cover picture so I decided to settle for a screenshot instead. So where do we start? I thought of the suspense we had last episode and here's what we get... That's right -- it turns out to be that the Patrangers haven't discovered the true identity of the Lupinrangers yet. They just went there to have a meal but have to go when the next Gangler namely Namero Bacho is vandalizing the city with his art!  Meanwhile, I wonder how did Kogure get into the place so fast? This looks like it's going to be one funny series. He gets the Lupin Collection into that book. The Patrangers are in one sticky situation. Patren-2 gets stuck in snail goo and it gets him stuck. The Lupinrangers get away which I could imagine Detective Zenigata's dubbed phrases or "Onore Lupin!!!!" with this scene. The Lupirangers are in sort of a crisis this time. Kyuranger has ended, I enjoyed it a lot but I still feel like my head's still in space while Lupinranger vs. Patranger is enjoyable with its new concept. But I'd like to do a throwback challenge once more. After I did the Arsene Lupin challenge  then let's take the challenge to space shall we? So I'll give what I've seen and I hope you can give your own stand. I lost the Lupin challenge and I wonder if I've won this challenge. The Space Sheriff Trilogy would be where I'm most familiar with though I have barely saw Sharivan. Yup, I'm more familiar with Gavan and Shaider. Gavan was dubbed as Sky Ranger Gavan in the Philippines -- it was only years later did I discover that it was not Sky Ranger but Space Sheriff and that some of the guest actors were big time stars. I'd say Shaider is probably my least favorite. I didn't like it that much as a child and my mind hasn't changed about it as an adult. Strangely, I didn't like Solbrain as ...

Yup, the conflict of Kaito Sentai Lupinranger vs. Zenigata Keisatsu Sentai Patranger has just begun! Last episode showed that both have a common enemy (the Ganglers) but both can't work out with each other. The Lupinrangers have been employed by the yet to be seen descendant of Arsene Lupin III while the Patrangers are out there to arrest both teams.  We see how bullheaded and stupid Detective Zenigata Keiichiro can be. The fight between the two Super Sentai trios can be very amusing with all the laser gun violence going on. This really makes me question what direction is the series trying to have? The two series have a common enemy yet they can't even put their differences aside. Summoning the mecha scenes was loads of fun with CGI. One scene almost reminded me of the 90s Jetman opening where the Jet Birds are reflected by glass windows. This time, it's a beautiful combination of CGI and whatever props were used.
