Kiramager Episode 11: Groundhog Day!!!!
Well, I guess Super Sentai in spite of being Japanese can't get rid of American pop culture references, huh? I was thinking where Tokosou Exceedraft and Mirai Sentai Timeranger got into a time loop situation. Exceedraft's version came BEFORE the Groundhog Day movie and was most likely dedicated to a Star Trek episode. I just can't help but throw a reference towards the said movie. Coincidence? Newbie writer Tete Inoue (who also wrote two episodes for Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger) has written this episode. Yup, it's been some time since the Legacy Virus left the show paralyzed.
The episode begins with Tametomo and a rival of his at the E-Sports competition. TBH, what's with Tekken and it appearing in Super Sentai? Last time I remembered Tekken was featured was in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger where Chiaki is a fan of Tekken 6. In this one, Tekken 7 gets featured and I don't want to keep ranting at how much I'm still disappointed with it in contrast to its last two predecessors. Anyway, Tametomo wins and his rival decides to "cast a curse" on him.
Just then the new monster attack known as the Reset Button Jamen. Yup, that's how the whole "Groundhog Day" phenomenon happens. I guess Tametomo was given the focus. Granted, his Kiramei Machine is a shovel so I guess that's the gag here.
What's so sad is that like in every Groundhog Day type movie - only the character trapped in it notices it. His friends don't notice it. I remembered the movie Christmas Every Day where the self-absorbed teenager is the only one to notice it. Juuru does manage to encourage Tametomo to do better.
This one has Tamemoto and his rival have one serious match. This would soon inspire Tametomo as Kiramei Yellow to get serious with the fight and do it better.
Well, Groundhog Day does backfire at the Reset Button Jamen. The monster gets trapped in his own time loop when Kiramei Yellow repeatedly trolls him to death. In here, Kiramei Yellow trolls Reset Button Jamen to death LITERALLY.
Meanwhile, Hassha Button Regani has a very short giant robot battle. Was this done on purpose so more of the stuntman and hero greatness can be shown? I noticed some episodes in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger didn't enlarge monsters to focus on action scenes. In this case, it's all about the stunt double showing his ability.
Mabusheena soon receives the vision of the sixth ranger. I don't blame Toei and Bandai for pushing in Kiramei Silver in the 12th episode. I mean, it's been a MONTH since the Legacy Virus staled the show. You really need to sell new toys, right? Well, I guess it's all about desperation to recover from the effects of the Legacy Virus.
Next week, Kiramei Silver will be introduced. Speaking of having a Silver Ranger - I've been wanting to recall the silvers. Megasilver, Gaosilver, Bouken Silver, Go-On Silver (only female one), Gokai Silver, and Hebitsuki Silver (who already appeared before a new ranger could be introduced in Kyuranger) come to mind too.
