Groundhog Day - Exceedraft Episode 10 And Timeranger Episode 35

Well, it looks like that Sailor Otaku is now back on track to subbing Tokosou Exceedraft after finishing the Shinkalion project. I just had a bit of a flashback in the 90s when I just watched shows even if I couldn't understand it - as long as it was a kiddie show or felt like it. I think it was Star TV Chinese Channel (and mind you, I couldn't understand it!) when I first saw Exceedraft.

Exceedraft episode 10 is a very weird episode and may be painful to watch for some. Maybe, one can say it's still a weird show. Then again, how many times has the supernatural hit its predecessors Winspector and Solbrain? Those shows were sci-fi with the supernatural. In fact, Exceedraft would face off Iwao Daimon who turns out to be the Devil in human form. So, it shouldn't be surprising that Hayato gets stuck up in Groundhog Day. If you haven't heard of the movie then you may consider at least Googling about it. The movie is tedious to watch when a selfish reporter is forced to relive the same day all over again until he learns his lesson. The same plot was used in a movie called Christmas Every Day where a self-absorbed teenager is forced to relive Christmas until he knows the full meaning of it. Exceedraft's episode had a child refusing to get a heart operation (Jetman also had that episode a year before). The child wishes tomorrow would never come. It's until Hayato manages to convince the child that the latter needs it that the loop ends. Note, the movie Groundhog Day came after Exceedraft. Before that, Star Trek had a similar episode titled "Cause and Effect" which may have inspired Exceedraft's episode.

Metal Hero finally ended with Robotack and the title of the final episode says it all. However, the spirit of Metal Hero somehow still lives on in the Heisei era Kamen Rider. Ever noticed Kamen Rider has become more metallic-looking ever since its revival 20 years ago? Not to mention, last 2004 we had Dekaranger which was a show chock full of Metal Hero references. 2000 was very much the revival of Kamen Rider and perhaps Super Sentai's year that it would get close to a reboot. Timeranger episode 35 had one similar episode. A child was to undergo surgery but refused to do so until Time Fire came. The Timerangers in their suits tried to cheer the child up. However, the child wanted to see Time Fire. It did take a bit from Burai's final arc where a child wanted to see Burai. In this case, Naoto learns an important lesson when he gets stuck in Groundhog Day. The day finally ended, tomorrow came, and the child gets surgery. Like Exceedraft, the episode could be considered to be rather very tedious. However, a time loop episode is pretty much applicable in Timeranger.

Meanwhile, I wonder why neither staff involved with GoGoFive nor Lightspeed Rescue decided to take notes from Exceedraft's tenth episode? Exceedraft IS a rescue show. Much of Exceedraft's emphasis is making a lightspeed rescue which happens more literally than Lightspeed Rescue. I think the whole hospital Groundhog Day could've been applicable to both areas. Maybe, have a monster that causes the time loop and takes advantage of the child-of-the-week's fear of surgery. Maybe, have either Denus or Vypra manipulate the child who fears surgery into creating a time loop. Maybe, both Denus and Vypra would think only if a day can repeat itself until the rangers are destroyed. TBH, I think I'd probably say that too bad that neither show decided to do so.
