Tsubasa Inuzaka As The Ryusei Sakata Of "Donbrothers"

Image
It's too obvious that I decided to quit doing episode reviews because I'm watching shows at irregular paces. Avatar Sentai Donbrothers is already no exemption to that rule. Right now, I even feel Kamen Rider Geats has become somewhat more enjoyable version of Squid Game (which I dropped due to how annoying the "hero" is). I even feel that Geats may become more enjoyable (hopefully), especially with how Neon Kurama may become a more fleshed-out version of Sakura Nishihori from Gougou Sentai Boukenger . Now, it's time a new concept in Super Sentai (but not so new to Kamen Rider ) where an ally or team member's secret identity is unknown. So, I thought it's kinda weird really how the Donbrothers team was gathered. Haruka Kito still questioned Don Momotaro's real identity. I don't deny that Haruka has every right to be skeptical after all the bad events that happened. One teammate namely Tsubasa's secret identity is still secret to them. I find i

My Thoughts On The LONG-AWAITED Abaranger DVD Release

Image
I haven't done a Super Sentai DVD rant for a long time, right? Yeah, I could remember how I actually called Dino Thunder as Dino THUMPER in an angry rant of sorts. I felt it was rather awkward to do a Fiveman DVD release of sorts . I felt that who'd want to watch Fiveman IF they've seen GoGoFive . I think it's easier for a Power Rangers fan to embrace both GoGoFive and Lightspeed Rescue than to appreciate Fiveman . Fiveman was that near-franchise killer during the 1990s and NOT Ohranger . Abaranger will get its release on November 8, 2022. Meanwhile, I totally missed that Kamen Rider Kuuga got licensed subbed last September 20, 2022. Interestingly, both are written by Naruhisa Arakawa - a writer I feel got appreciated among Power Rangers circles because of the fansubs of Dekaranger and Gokaiger . So, how will an Abaranger release do? I could remember the often misunderstood episode "Lost and Found" in Dino Thunder . Some people who should no longer be even ack

Why I Ended Up Rewatching Go-Busters After Beast Morphers

Image
I remembered writing about how I'd still pick Zyuranger over Mighty Morphin' . I remembered wanting to give Hasbro a chance to see how it'd do Beast Morphers  over Saban Entertainment. So, we've got the rather fascinating history of the connection that Toei, Saban, and Hasbro had. Toei provided the animation during the Sunbow seasons of G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero and a good portion of the 1980s The Transformers cartoon. I guess that's why it was so easy to create the Takara Trilogy as a non-canon, Japan-only spinoff. Toei and Saban Entertainment both had a license from Marvel Comics. The late Stan Lee had met both sides of the coin. Who can remember the one-time Japanese Spiderman (which I think was rather weird instead of creating a Spiderman-based hero of their own Spiderman)? Later,  Haim Saban acquired the rights to produce X-Men: The Animated Series during the 1990s before getting the license from Toei Ltd. I even wonder if Lee and Saban went to Japan toge

Them Super Sentai Fanservice-y Pool Or Beach Episodes

Image
There are times when Super Sentai has its SUMMER EPISODES . True, we didn't have it in Kiramager because the Legacy Virus pandemic was at its peak. I pretty much understood why Kiramager never had a beach episode. Zenkaiger had a "beach episode". There are also the short Super Sentai summer movies (such as how Boukenger's had Natsuki in a bikini). This one has it in late summer and we had a rather conservative scene with Haruka Kito. Okay, I can't recall them all. Granted, I've seen almost all old school Super Sentai entries and I've seen almost every new one as well. It would be normal for me to forget some of them.  Remembering some 1970s to 1980s pool or beach episodes As said, I wouldn't be able to tackle them all or remember them all. Though, I found the most memorable are those when fight scenes get integrated. I could raise up my childhood ones which had Bioman and Maskman beach episodes. Bioman episode 27 features Doctor Man's nightmarish

Them Super Sentai Sofubi Toys

Image
Mandarake Some time ago, I remembered writing about seeing them Japanese Bandai toys WHILE Mighty Morphin' aired  in the Philippines. I could remember how there were also the Kamen Rider BLACK and Kamen Rider BLACK RX toys on display. I remembered how there was the now-closed Nova Fontana, Toy Kingdom, SM Toystore - you name it! Newer Super Sentai entries were no longer aired by then. I heard it's because the royalties of Super Sentai have been higher plus it could be Toei Ltd.'s decision that Power Rangers would be aired in the Philippines instead. I guess a certain group of people who say I should just accept Toei Ltd.'s decisions BLINDLY fail to see their beloved network is behind the show they hate. Okay, I'm getting sadistic but such people aren't worth my time or worth joining even if I still dislike Power Rangers .  I remembered seeing the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers  commercial back in the 1990s. It was that time that Haim Saban finally had the rig

When Super Sentai Uses The Cold Opening Or The Teaser Before The Opening Theme

Image
Super Sentai  didn't always have The Teaser until Scroll 35 of  Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger . I can't determine the reason why the format was introduced later on. Before that, we had the introduction of The Teaser in the Kamen Rider franchise during its fateful reboot with Kamen Rider Kuuga . Now, it's time to do a definition of what it means. " The Teaser " or called "The Cold Opening" is defined by  TV Tropes as follows: Also known as a Cold Opening or "Cold Open". A one to five minute mini-act at the beginning of the show, sometimes before the opening credits, that is used to set up the episode and catch the audience's attention. In a Monster of the Week show such as The X-Files, the teaser usually contains the first Red Shirt of the episode. In a Crime and Punishment Series, it usually contains the first murder or the body of a victim being discovered. It has become something of a fashion, particularly on crime shows, to end the cold open

Gekiranger: Another Failed Attempt To Go Back To Darker And Edgier After Boukenger's Wacky Adventures?

Image
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger hit its 10th anniversary last 2017 and it has its 15th anniversary this year. Not surprisingly, Gekiranger happened on the 20th anniversary of Hikari Sentai Maskman - the first attempt at a martial arts themed Super Sentai followed by Gosei Sentai Dairanger in 1993. I did write about how Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger might be that failed attempt to introduce serious Super Sentai all over again . I guess Toei Ltd. may have some issues with how modern viewers tend to prefer Lighter and Softer over Darker and Edgier. I guess that's why some Power Rangers fans prefer the newer series.  It seems that Gekiranger may be on the list but wait... it's actually a contrasting sequel and a contrasting prequel. It had not one but TWO crossovers with a series that's more known for wacky antics. The first was with Gougou Sentai Boukenger (which I enjoy just how high these guys can get )   and the other is Engine Sentai Go-Onger  after it. I think the series was probabl
