Ohranger's Final Bosses: Kaiser Buldont And Maruchiwa (Spoilers)

Image
Bomber the Great was nothing more than a PLOT DEVICE. Bomber the Great only had seven episodes -- only to be a set-up device for Prince Buldont to become Kaiser Buldont. What amuses me more often is how the Baranoia Royfal Family showed detest for human emotions. However, Emperor Bacchushund showed that he was CAPABLE OF LOVE for both his wife and son. Bacchushund has a PERMANENT SHUTDOWN compared to King Mondo in Power Rangers Zeo . Buldont becomes Kaiser Buldont -- he's forced grown and he marries his cousin Maruchiwa. It gets even funnier to think these robots are operating LIKE HUMANS! Added is the royal incest -- something that screwed up many royal families into their own demise! Bomber the Great was nowhere near as great as Bio Hunter Silver from Chodenshi Bioman . Silver proved to be a REALLY CREDIBLE THREAT that worked his way to the finale. Rewatching some Bioman episodes made me say Bomber the Great was a plot device. Bio Hunter Silver was a robot programmed to destroy ...

Bomber The Great VS. Louie Kaboom Plot Comparison (Spoilers)

Image
It's no secret that I find Choriki Sentai Ohranger to be a messy toy commercial. Come on, no one can deny that throwing one Megazord after the other can derail the plot ! It's pretty much overworking the marketing department (and writing too), like what happened with the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z . Now, as messy as Ohranger was, I still find it more watchable than Power Rangers Zeo . Zeo tried to continue where Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers  Season 3 left off! I'm still SOURED UP until now over the Dear John letter that was presented in Zeo ! Now, I'd like to write a bit of a rant on Louie Kaboom (the Zeo  counterpart) and Bomber the Great! One of the reasons why I don't like Power Rangers is how often people have to watch previous entries just to understand another entry. Power Rangers Turbo ended with a cliffhanger, while Gekisou Sentai Carranger gave a proper conclusion. I have to watch Turbo to understand Power Rangers in Space ? Not even Tokyu Shirei Solbra...

The Gray-Eyed Man May Be Part Of A Much Bigger Conspiracy

Image
It's nice to see Ryoma Baba playing another character? We've had Hiroya Matsumoto returning to play different characters. Hiroya returned in Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters playing as Masato Jin -- years after he played Tsubasa Ozu in Mahou Sentai Magiranger (still dislike it). Ryoma plays as the gray-eyed creep Rei Gushima -- a character that's giving me crime drama vibes. This character's allegiance isn't known yet. Ryoma was previously Ryuji Iwasaki in Go-Busters too.   It turns out that Rei wasn't just responsible for Oto Ichikawa's disappearance. Reading through Dryed Mangoez's   review , this gives me the creeps: And then I forgot Ryoma Baba was playing Rei-san. So I was cheering when he popped up. But then cringing when it turns out Rei-san is a creep. Lol. First, kidnapping Oto. And then that strange dynamic with Rikuo. Was he grooming the poor kid? WTF? And then the pill popping too. Not even gummy Dark Treats to stand in for drugs. But actual pills! ...

Reassessing Chevalier: Fiveman's Supposedly Show-Stealing Villain

Image
There are times that it's the villains and NOT the heroes that save the show . Ratings can be sluggish. Chikyu Sentai Fiveman was often looked down before it got Vindicated by History. I'm amazed that Power Rangers fans actually bought the Fiveman official DVD despite the much superior Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive having its first release. However, Fiveman  would be pretty much like Kamen Rider BLACK RX -- a show that didn't do well but somehow won a following years later. Fiveman was a show that most likely suffered due to Executive Meddling. There was even that unnecessary Five-Kun puppets -- thankfully, they didn't last long! Chevalier's rise to the captaincy got rid of the puppets! As a child, I wasn't too keen on game-changing villains. However, I started finding Chevalier cool and dandy. Fiveman episode 28 knew how to make an entrance. Chevalier was singing that cool song "Hero!" by Kai Band. The late Ichiro Mizuki also made a cover version. It's i...

Revisiting The Meadow/Vulgyre Revelation On Fiveman's 30th Anniversary (Spoilers)

Image
Chikyu Sentai Fiveman is that near-franchise killer that got Vindicated by History. By now, I realized that it was a necessary failure that would give us Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive . Fiveman even has an OFFICIAL DVD release -- something that I never thought would work! I've actually used GoGoFive to spot most of the mistakes done with Fiveman than I would to with Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue . I looked at Fiveman and thought of something I berated a lot -- the Meadow/Vulgyre Connection . I revisited the Wizard of Oz movies starring the late Judy Garland. The Great and Magnificent Oz was actually a projection of a con man named Oscar Diggs. The books gave a different story. Oz showed the illusion of a green fairy to the Scarecrow. This makes me think that what if the idea of Empress Meadow was actually done in the same vein? Was I too harsh with the revelation especially after seeing Grand B*tch Grandienne in action in GoGoFive ? Episode 42 may have been the hint many fans missed. ...

Corruption Drama In Boonboomger

Image
Just because newer Super Sentai goes for a mostly lighter and softer approach -- doesn't mean legal drama can't be involved. Sure, we can't have brutal scenes like more mature crime dramas.  Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger has the International Space Agency. Rather than take the usual easy way out -- Boonboomger decides to add some crime drama into it. The ISA's supposedly responsible for law and order. It turns out that it's been infiltrated by CORRUPTION! Wairudo Spindo has had been paying off CORRUPT ISA officials. It turns out that Director Eiichiro Tokoyari is a SELF-SERVING PERSON. Tokoyari enters into what might be an uneasy deal with Wairudo. This is a typical crime drama element when it comes to CORRUPT OFFICIALS. This might be in a different light than Captain Ryuuya Asami's involvement in Mirai Sentai Timeranger . Ryuuya didn't have any real alliances with the Londarz Family. It was more like Ryuuya chose to let them escape as part of his convoluted gr...

One Real Good Scare: Grand B*tch Grandienne In GoGoV

Image
It's the silver anniversary of GoGoV  and I feel I haven't given the series enough appreciation. GoGoFive has one of the most evil villains to ever exist known as Grand Witch Grandienne. I purposely wrote her as Grand B*tch Grandienne because her actions are way too evil. I feel Super Sentai nightmare fuel today isn't as good . Grandienne wasn't always there but when she's there -- she's one of the most evil villains in the franchise. Grandienne's actions prove that she's one selfish, self-centered MOFO. Grandienne would even pit her own children against each other just to accomplish her goals. GoGoV had more freedom to make Grandienne as evil as she could get. Earlier scenes of Grandienne showing up (and some of these scenes were spliced into Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue ) reminded me of Meadow's apparition in Chikyu Sentai Fiveman . The difference was  Fiveman ended up writing off Meadow as merely an illusion set by Galactic Beast Vulgyre. Meanw...

Bioman's Prince And Shuichi

Image
I guess some people have already guessed that Dr. Man was a human being but not the Big Three. Doctor Man had a hint saying to Mason he didn't design him to fail. There are hints that Doctor Man was well, a man. Here's where the clues start to drop in! Episodes 19-20 introduce us to Prince Prince calls himself the son of Doctor Man. Mason found it unbelievable because New Empire Gear was composed of androids. Mason never knew that his master was a human being. Okay, that's kinda weird since the name Doctor Man is such a dead giveaway! What do you expect when Super Sentai purposely writes plots that aren't supposed to make sense? Prince comes out of nowhere and Doctor Man says, "This my my only son Prince!" Mason gets shocked not knowing that Doctor Man was a human. Mason is amazed that Prince is such a genius and says, "Truly, he is Doctor Man's son!" The Prince story arc introduces Doctor Man's descent to madness. Prince is programmed to thi...

American Pop Culture References In Boonboomger Villains?

Image
After a long wait -- the Big Bad Wairudo Spindo shows up. I remember when Mr. Smith wrote an article on American influences in Super Sentai . It's not surprising if one notices that Toei once had a license with Marvel. The Japanese Spider-Man TV series was a licensed adaptation vastly different from the source material. Meanwhile, Saban Entertainment created a Spider-Man cartoon adaptation in 1994 -- my favorite Spider-Man cartoon adaptation.  I get amazed every time ADULT MOVIES are either adapted or referenced in a SHOW FOR CHILDREN. Who can remember the Aliens vs. Predator toyline or Conan the Adventurer -- both based on R-18 fantasy franchises? These villains are probably named after violent movies because they're villains!  The big boss Wairudo Spindo  The Japanese character Waru means bad person. Spindo may refer to SPINDLE. What's interesting is that the  Fast & Furious  American movie was released in Japan was Wild Speed -- which may further enforce ...

Translation Of The Song "Kuro No Kikoushi" (The Black Prince)

Image
I may have some issues with reunion movies these days . Despite its popularity in Japan, I was glad Samurai Sentai Shinkenger didn't have a 10th-anniversary reunion movie. I may be a fan of Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger but I wasn't too flattered at a 20 years after movie. I have mixed feelings about the news of a Ninja Sentai Kakuranger reunion movie. Some reunion movies may no longer be possible due to cast members who have died such as Tatsuya Nomi in Gosei Sentai Dairanger , the most recent demise of Yuka Motohashi from cancer, or having some sickness such as Kenji Shibata's brain tumor in Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive.  Kenichi Endo will resume his role as Prince Junior/Gaskadokuro -- something I think is built on nostalgia. Prince Junior was pretty entertaining. I'd dare say that while Prince Junior was crueler than Rito Revolto -- he also managed to be funnier at the same time. I still find the skeletal design to be funny. It wasn't explained why Kenichi left the show m...
