Looking Back At Go-Busters VS. Gokaiger Five Years After Beast Morphers Aired Last 2019

Image
These days I don't really care about the Super Sentai VS. Movies . Most of them tend to be like the Dragon Ball Z movie series -- a series of What-If scenarios. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger is already a fun continuity error. Many events in previous Super Sentai series can't be connected. I rewatched Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters after I finished Power Rangers Beast Morphers . This reminds me Power Rangers' use of continuity vs. Super Sentai's mostly self-contained plots are probably due to CULTURAL DIFFERENCES . This TV special is no different as several plots make them NON-CANON. There are going to be several non-canonical events. One can have fun and point out the glaring continuity errors. Who can remember how events unfold in most Super Sentai crossover movies? This one spared no effort to let you know it's just another crossover film. However, the existence of the Dino Curry in these movies might be someone's favorite excuse for justifying that there's actually...

Super Sentai Lovable Nerd Heroines

Image
SuperSentai2023 Instagram Super Sentai was trying to stay afloat more than once. The reboot treatment has been working wonders as long as it caters to children . What I never noticed is that Super Sentai tried a new plot with the lovable nerd heroine. Power Rangers fans may raise Kendrix Morgan due to her wearing glasses. The difference is Kendrix wore spandex and fought bad guys. However, most of the lovable nerds here minus Yayoi Ulshade aren't ranger-type characters. Maybe, three out of four of them have really bad eyesight -- not good for battles! However, they made up for it with their intellect. Yes, not all heroes go out into the battlefield and fight. Some are the BTS encouragers like Alfred Pennyworth in Batman . Miho Nakamura was the laboratory assistant at Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . The show does have some similarities to Power Rangers RPM like having a sentient virus Big Bad. I like how the Energy Management Center gave a commander in Takeshi Kuroki (too bad the actor ...

Remembering Tategami Li-Oh Introduction In The Light Of Ichiro Mizuki's Passing

Image
The recent death of Ichiro Mizuki at 74 came today. It turns out he died on December 6, 2022. The agency only announced it presumably out of respect for his family and friends. Right now, I just feel like I want to think about Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters and the short role he played. Also, he was Dr. Ben in Dimension Warrior Spielban . I couldn't help but remember the death of his character, Saburo Hazuki, who might be a tribute to the pen name, Saburo Yatsude.  Missions 35-36 are among the few times when Kento Shimoyama did a good job. Sure, I'll forever associate Shimoyama with the bad job he did with Shuriken Sentai Ninninger . Yeah, Ninninger is forever ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER than that junk called Power Rangers Ninja Steel. Ninninger had its Ranger History lessons since it was the 40th birthday of Himitsu Sentai Goranger . I still think that Shimoyama managed to do Kamen Rider Zi-O better than Kamen Rider Decade . At least Zi-O managed to properly celebrate an anniversa...

Go-Busters/Power Rangers RPM Similarities

Image
Here's another post that I decided to update. Yes, it was written some time ago but as said, some posts can be revised. It's no secret that I tend to compare Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters to Power Rangers RPM . I did lie that I preferred Engine Sentai Go-onger (which I hated after watching Gekisou Sentai Carranger which ran over two Turbos as well). I'd admit that I ended up rewatching Go-Busters after I finished Beast Morphers . I still think Beast Morphers has likable heroes while the problem it had was  heavily relying on throwbacks .  Back in 2012, I remembered how I had mixed opinions on Go-Busters . Thanks to Dryed Mangoez - I came out of the closet about it that I think Go-Busters is a good series. I'm not surprised that Lester of Dryed Mangoez expressed negative opinions on Beast Morphers later. Though, I did once call Go-Busters as the pseudo-sequel of Power Rangers RPM . Sounds crazy, right? Not if you realize I also called Kamen Rider Decade the pseudo-sequel of ...

What if Toshiki Inoue Were Go-Busters' Secondary Writer?

Image
Okay, I decided to revisit and update this post which was written last 2014 . This is just some random post I wrote. I decided to update this post since Toshiki Inoue had returned to become a Super Sentai head writer in 2022 with Avatar Sentai Donbrothers . So far, Donbrothers is enjoyable and it has managed to keep the Ranger History lessons to a mininum. 2022 is also 10 years after Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . I felt that Inoue was somehow underutilized in Super Sentai during the 2000s - maybe except for the guest writing that he did during Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger's "cruel episode". Yes, I still stand by it me thinking it's a very cruel episode. Go ahead, get mad, but as said I still think it's a cruel episode. Still, I felt that the "cruel episode" should've been a hint that Inoue was fit to be a writer for Go-Busters .  Yasuko Kobayashi became the head writer. The secondary writers were Kento Shimoyama (who was with the terrible Shuriken Sentai Ni...

Why I Ended Up Rewatching Go-Busters After Beast Morphers

Image
I remembered writing about how I'd still pick Zyuranger over Mighty Morphin' . I remembered wanting to give Hasbro a chance to see how it'd do Beast Morphers  over Saban Entertainment. So, we've got the rather fascinating history of the connection that Toei, Saban, and Hasbro had. Toei provided the animation during the Sunbow seasons of G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero and a good portion of the 1980s The Transformers cartoon. I guess that's why it was so easy to create the Takara Trilogy as a non-canon, Japan-only spinoff. Toei and Saban Entertainment both had a license from Marvel Comics. The late Stan Lee had met both sides of the coin. Who can remember the one-time Japanese Spiderman (which I think was rather weird instead of creating a Spiderman-based hero of their own Spiderman)? Later,  Haim Saban acquired the rights to produce X-Men: The Animated Series during the 1990s before getting the license from Toei Ltd. I even wonder if Lee and Saban went to Japan toge...

"Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters" And Its Possible Vindication By History

Image
This year hits the 10th anniversary of Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . I guess it's time to give Go-Busters a WELL-DESERVED tribute. I was thinking about how I was pretty much in the closet about how I felt about the show . I'd dare say I have that bad habit of listening too much to fan opinion or not listening at all to suit my needs, right? I feel Go-Busters deserves some vindication by history. I feel that just because a certain someone dislikes it that I should dislike it. Now, on for the Go-Busters' to get Vindicated By History.  WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!  I read through Henshin Grid where the webmaster wrote a theoretical insight . Meanwhile, it was something when Dryed Mangoez's webmaster Jeff wrote a rather positive review for the series . Later on, it was followed where Jeff   actually wrote a bad review for Beast Morphers . What was the whole thing with it? I guess this was a series that was probably well-liked by older fans but not by the younger fans. Yasuko Koba...

When Gavan Gets Dragged Into Super Sentai

Image
Surprise, I did some Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters rewatching. I was in the closet about liking that show. Now, I'm going to say that I'm a fan of Go-Busters and I don't care anymore if a show's popular or not. I've marathoned up to the two-parter where Go-Busters had a team-up with the legendary Gavan. It would be important to know that it's actually Gavan's 40th anniversary this year. This reminds me of the time when I used to watch Gavan badly-dubbed in Tagalog as Sky Ranger Gavin on ABC-5 . Now, it's time to take a memory lane to pay respect to one of the greatest old-school heroes. Back in 1982, Gavan premiered alongside Dai Sentai Goggle V while Kamen Rider took yet another hiatus. The popularity of Gavan brought in two direct sequels with different new heroes namely Ucchu Seiju Sharivan and Ucchu Seijuu Shaider. There was no Internet back then so it was a big deal when I missed an episode of Gavan like I missed an episode of this and that. I rememb...

How I Felt "Go-Busters" Had A Huge Impact With The Power Rangers Community

Image
It's no mistake that I'm no fan of Power Rangers . Okay, I tried to like it back then when it was what took over the timeslot instead of Super Sentai . However, I always remained puzzled as to why Kamen Rider still aired in the Philippines but not Super Sentai . Right now, I feel like writing this new ramble. I feel that Go-Tokumei Sentai Busters is truly a Super Sentai entry that had a huge impact on the Power Rangers community.  The digital age then allowed Power Rangers fans to slowly get fansubs of Super Sentai which I heard started with Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger then more shows after it followed. It was quite difficult to find subs for older seasons. However, I also theorize that many Power Rangers fans prefer any Super Sentai after Mirai Sentai Timeranger for being considerably lighter and softer . I guess stuff like Burai's death in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger is somewhat too heavy to bear. Meanwhile, stuff like how Dekaranger had Doggie survive his supposed death is m...

Wacky Post: I Feel Haruka Kito Reminds Me Of Both Yoko Usami And Zoey Reeves

Image
I just can't resist writing a wacky post times where it was comparing a certain group to a certain cop or how Donbrothers (of all Super Sentai series) got me reminded of Beast Morphers . Since Beast Morphers is based on Go-Busters (which is a favorite of mine for trying to return back to serious roots but not too high either) - I'd like to do this wacky post to say how Haruka Kito reminds me of not just Zoey Reeves (both are menial workers) but also of YOKO USAMI . It sounds crazy but it's true! I decided to give Beast Morphers to see how Hasbro will handle the Power Rangers franchise. I ended up criticizing Beast Morphers for trying to tie back everything back to 1993 instead of trying to become more self-contained. I also felt that Evox as Venjix is too predictable. I felt it'd be as bad as what if Go-Busters had a plot where Messiah Virus was Yogoscrimaten all along. The Ark in Kamen Rider Zero-One was fortunately NOT linked to the Great Leader of the Showa era. Besi...

I Felt It Was Difficult To Watch Super Sentai After Go-Busters

Image
It doesn't matter how many times I can admit I don't like Power Rangers - I'll never say Super Sentai is perfect. There are also Super Sentai seasons that I feel aren't as good. I decided to give Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters a shot and I personally find it to be a decent attempt. It's almost like after I decided to re-evaluate Kamen Rider Faiz -  there's potential but there's also a loss of charge. I felt Yasuko Kobayashi started losing her charge in Go-Busters (even if I use this series to derail Power Rangers RPM and not too much on Power Rangers Beast Morphers ) and Toshiki Inoue lost some charge in Faiz . Well, both of them ended up in their weaker moments when Ressha Sentai ToQGer and Kamen Rider Kiva came to mind. I've learned to enjoy ToQGer for what it is just like I did with Kiva. Though, I felt like writing his post 10 years after Go-Busters came into the airwaves.  Go-Busters felt like going back to simpler times while having the digital age. N...
