In honor of the upcoming Chinese New Year, I am going to do a review on the dragon-based Sentai warriors as they appeared. I decided to update an old post for that reason.  Hiryu Tsurugi/Change Dragon  The first dragon themed red ranger.  He's a pretty emotional individual despite being a responsible leader. However, Changeman didn't introduce the animal-themed mecha until Liveman . He does have a pitch attack called the Dragon Ball. Toei was also the studio behind Dragon Ball - a series that I heard got an American dub by Haim Saban.  Burai/Dragon Ranger  First sixth ranger of the Super Sentai franchise, first dragon themed ranger to pilot an actual dragon mecha. He was given his own six-part introduction which I dub as "Green with Evil". I always can't resist comparing Burai to X-1 Mask. X-1 Mask was a prototype and was written off for just one episode. I think it's time to document the tragic deaths of Super Sentai heroes/heroines as they were. I decided to update this post after some time it was written more than 10 years ago. As heroes as they are - they are NOT invincible because they are flawed humans.  Here are some of the deaths that really took place and brought a tear to the eyes of fans.... Daigorou Kumano/Ki Ranger II He was a temporary member. He was killed when Can Opener Mask's blade thrust into his stomach and killed him. The actor was just there temporarily since the original acted in a play. Sadly, the original Kiranger, Baku Hatakeyama ENDED his life in real life. So sad Hatakeyama was only 34 years old. Meanwhile, Jiro Daruma still lives for now.  Kensaku Shiraishi/Battle Cossack I He was severely shot by Egos agents out of his suit (here there is no henshin sequence, only wear the suit and boom) while trying to save his younger sister. Okay, this blog entry is rather old (written last June 5, 2011) and I decided to UPDATE IT. Yes, it's because of the recent discovery that we've got another Haruka as a yellow ranger. I decided to update this list where some characters have the same first names (and even THE SAME RANGER DESIGNATION) while others have different ranger colors. With that said, here's a bit of an UPDATED history lesson, get it? Haruka (Yellow Mask) and Haruka Kito (Oni Sister) Recently, I really failed to notice this one and this is why I'm updating this old post. Both of them are yellow rangers. With this in mind...here are others you may have noticed had the same first names.  Tyuyoshi Kaijo (Akaranger) and Tyuyoshi Kijino (Kiji Brother) Both of them have named Tyuyoshi. Pink is a lighter variation of red. I just wonder if having the first male pink ranger is actually because of that? Then again many pink rangers had male stunt doubles too! Akira Shinmei/Aoranger, Akira Momoi/Denzi Pink, ...

Somehow, it's very typical that the pink ranger is the show's "The Chick", right? The recent Donbrothers has a MALE pink ranger Tyuyoshi Kijino who's living the dreams of his wife Miho. Quite unexpected? Well, I decided to think about a number of times when pink rangers just felt "odd" or not your typical pink rangers. So, here they are... Mai Tsubasa Pink rangers are usually expected to be feminine but that somewhat got defied during Dengeki Sentai Changeman . True, Mai Tsubasa had a crush on a scientist (who was NEVER mentioned again like one-shot love interests in many superhero shows) but she was rather tougher than usual. Sayaka Nagisa was pretty much the one who showed herself as a more action-based pink ranger. Something that somehow made itself more known throughout the franchise. Though, later more action-based pinks still preferred to win the battle with wits over guts.  Yuuri Yuuri in Mirai Sentai Timeranger is probably someone not so welcome ...
