Some Pink Rangers That May Have Defied MY Expectations

Somehow, it's very typical that the pink ranger is the show's "The Chick", right? The recent Donbrothers has a MALE pink ranger Tyuyoshi Kijino who's living the dreams of his wife Miho. Quite unexpected? Well, I decided to think about a number of times when pink rangers just felt "odd" or not your typical pink rangers. So, here they are...

Mai Tsubasa

Pink rangers are usually expected to be feminine but that somewhat got defied during Dengeki Sentai Changeman. True, Mai Tsubasa had a crush on a scientist (who was NEVER mentioned again like one-shot love interests in many superhero shows) but she was rather tougher than usual. Sayaka Nagisa was pretty much the one who showed herself as a more action-based pink ranger. Something that somehow made itself more known throughout the franchise. Though, later more action-based pinks still preferred to win the battle with wits over guts.

Yuuri

Yuuri in Mirai Sentai Timeranger is probably someone not so welcome or what? I still think Timeranger is Yasuko Kobayashi's best job as a head writer for Super Sentai. However, some keep saying that it's Samurai Sentai Shinkenger which I beg to disagree with. Yuuri is technically the field leader of the Timerangers since she's the one with the most knowledge and skills. Pinks usually don't lead the rangers. In her case, she practically leads the Timerangers even when she's not at the center during battles. One can argue that Sakura Nishihori from Gougou Sentai Boukenger is tsundere but she still takes that title more too often. At least, Sakura defrosted and had genuinely silly moments. Yuuri? I kinda wanted to slap her face more than once due to how cold she can get!

Houka Ozu

Just where do I even begin with her? Houka herself is practically THAT ANNOYING to watch in more than one instance. Perhaps Mahou Sentai Magiranger should be considered a big blunder. At least Chikyu Sentai Fiveman had good characters even if the show keeps getting overshadowed by Tokkei Winspector and Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive. I would say she practically is the WORST pink ranger ever and her concept is best forgotten.

Kagura Izumi

Granted, every ranger in Ressha Sentai ToQGer except Akira were actually children. I think Kagura herself can count because she's just a child in an adult's body. I think that also defined expections though she and her four other friends did defy expectations. ToQGer was somewhat brave to explore new stuff such as children in the bodies of adults or the fact that Emperor Zetto wasn't your typical evil overlord.

Raptor

Raptor's basically the first non-humanoid pink ranger. Doubotsu Sentai Zyuohger had four Zyumen who had human guises. Raptor is basically a SUIT all throughout voiced by Mao Ichimichi. Instead, the show eye candy goes to Hammy as the first female green ranger (unless Mele of Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger even counts). At this point, it was difficult not to imagine Nobuo Akagi from Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger or Troy Burrows from Power Rangers Megaforce falling for her.

Magiine

Granted, Kikou Sentai Zenkaiger is an unorthodox team that resembles the Metal Hero franchise. Metal Hero may be long discontinued but its spirit still lives on. So, like Raptor, she's a robotic pink ranger. I was kind of excited to see how Zenkaiger would operate. I like the concept BUT I just felt that the crew behind it had no idea on how to deal with the new unorthodox team.

_______

Pretty much, this is just my personal list. So, feel free to disagree with me.
