The Broken Super Sentai Visor

Image
Although the picture from Toku Heroine  contains pictures from Kamen Rider - there is that rare moment in Super Sentai where the visor gets broken in battle. There were already a few instances where we saw damaged suits but not damaged visors. Bioman had the scene where the heroes' suits suffered from Mason's newly upgraded powers. Flashman had Red Flash's suit damaged in a badass duel with Sir Kaura. We only saw Red Flash getting hurt and badly beaten. I think Kazuo Niibori could've retreated and let Tota Tarumi in-suit with a broken visor take over in another area. Why we never saw Red Flash's visor break there is beyond me. Jetman did finally do the honors of giving a broken visor. Black Condor's epic final battle with Grey caused that epic scene of the visor broken. What was amazing was that the thug who stabbed Gai Yuki was actually Naoki Ofuji though I only knew it years later via the Internet. Then were there were more broken visors. Mega Black's vi...

Super Sentai's Main Cast Members' Action Scenes VS. The Suit Doubles' Action Scenes

Image
This week's Ryusoulger reminds me of where the main cast of heroes would boast of their fighting abilities out-of-suit. Nobody can deny that Super Sentai (and also Metal Hero, Kamen Rider, and Power Rangers) have those kinds of scenes whenever the plot calls for it. However, we can't also deny that stuntmen are necessarily there to perform the more dangerous scenes too! Here's a behind-the-scenes with Tatsuya Kishida and his suit double Yasuhiro Takeuchi. The most common out-of-suit fight scenes are always rangers vs. foot soldiers but not-so-much on rangers having a prolonged fight with the monsters-of-the-week . The drill paper-wise seems to start the fight out-of-suit then don the suit when stronger enemies appear, right? Though, it's not always every episode that happens because these scenes should only be inserted for the plot. Super Sentai's violence may have been reduced since the dawn of stricter censorship but it doesn't mean the cast doesn't...

Tribute to Koichi Sakamoto

Image
I just thought that it's time for Super Sentai fans, Power Rangers fans and Kamen Rider fans to give thanks to this amazing man, Koichi Sakamoto.  He was also the founder of the "Alpha Stunt Productions" and he has been involved with all three series- Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and Power Rangers.  Also he was the stuntman for Blue Mask as well.  Now for his credits as an action director after he moved to the U.S. in 1989.  I'd like to share my thoughts considering I've heard that he will direct Kyoryuger. If anybody and I mean anybody can disprove that, kindly send me a comment with a link. =) So he began to work in the adaptation department first for VR Troopers as the second unit director for VR Troopers, a show sadly in my old shames list after seeing Metalder and Spielban.  He also worked with MMPR season three, sadly the season that MMPR was at its worst. He did become the producer of Power Rangers Time Force.  Not surprising considering that Tim...
