The Super Sentai Rule Of Not Escalating A Fight Except When Villains Do So

Image
There are times when superhero shows can be full of strange logic. Yet, I still want to make sense of the rule, "Never escalate a fight unless the villain forces you to." The rule has somewhat been given in a lot of superhero team shows. Maybe, I might've missed a comic book issue of The Avengers or The Justice League . Maybe, Toei Ltd. was reading some comics before they created the superheroes. There's also the sense of honor and protocol in real-life military defense. With Super Sentai literally meaning Super Taskforce - it's no surprise that there's this really old but useful code of honor given way before Himitsu Sentai Goranger . Super Sentai had carried out that rule in some way. Kosoku Sentai Turboranger managed to play Zordon's threefold rule before Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers came to be . There are some Super Sentai teams (and Power Rangers teams in extension) that didn't follow the third rule which was not to let anyone know they'r

Wacky Wishful Casting: Some Old Super Sentai Veteran Should've Been Douga

Image
King-Ohger isn't an anniversary season yet the budget can be MIND-BLOWING. Is it because Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers entered its 30th year and Toei wants to remember one of its biggest moments in the international market? Then I remembered 1988 was also the year of Chojuu Sentai Liveman . Now, it's time to point out another wacky wishful casting.  Don't get me wrong I do still think Yutaka Morioka does a good job being Douga. Douga's a sideline character so it doesn't require that much skill. That's as long as the actor does a good job in doing what they do, right? However, I felt that some of the Liveman alumni should've returned to play the role of the royal bodyguard. It's quite a bummer that Super Sentai alumi Daisuke Shiima retired last 2013. I kinda of wanted to see Red Falcon's actor act as Douga - the royal bodyguard of the Husty family. It would've been interesting because he'd be a former Red Ranger actor acting as a bodyguard

When Human-Looking Super Sentai Villains Get Severely Outnumbered By Suit Villains

Image
One of the best things I liked about the older Super Sentai series (mostly from 1980s to 1990s) was the abudance of human-looking villains. The 1980s did have a budget for mostly human-looking villains. However, there are cases when humanoid villains get outnumbered by suit villains. The first obvious instance was Himitsu Sentai Goranger where the Black Cross Fuehrer later had a HUMAN ACTOR (and had a total of three different actors) and most of the Black Cross Army generals (who replaced each other) were played by suit actors and given different voices. With Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' 30th anniversary this year - I still feel like writing this one.  Here are those other obvious instances where suit villains severely outnumbered humanoid villains... For the first half of Kosoku Sentai Turboranger - the lame personifications of wickedness were mostly suit actors. Ragorn, Zulten, and Zimba are all suit villains. If I'm not wrong, Naoki Ofuji was Zimba's suit actor a

King-Ohger 30: The Frozen Scales Of Justice

This week's episode of King-Ohger starts to spread something that was delayed for so long. It was in the early episodes between episodes 7-8 when we first encountered a mysterious figure. This week's episode starts to show more of Gokkan's history and the event called the Fury of the Gods. This week's episode also wants me to make some snarky comments so beware of them! The episode begins with Rita getting a replica pendant from Zoey ahem Himeno. Himeno tries to invite Rita for tea. Rta tries not to stay because she must be neutral. However, Rita ends up staying for tea anyway. I still laugh whenever Rita tries to keep her face hidden. The whole keep herself a mystery can be very funny. I wonder if Himeno prepared special tea to prevent Rita's migraines from arriving.  Both Gira and Jeramie talk about creating a place for man and Bugnarok. How does Jeramie intend to clear his name after that episode last week ? A new catastrophe is about to happen one way or anothe

King-Ohger 29: Doubting One's Leadership Abilities

After last week's messy switcheroo x3 - we get another chaotic episode. I guess the chaotic nature of the episodes shows how the Galactainsect isn't fooling around! Many times, most supervillains tend to just come up with the typical stupid plans to achieve what they want to achieve. Hirubill causes some psychological attacks after the cliffhanger last week.  The assault was caused by the right-hand people last week. It's your typical Brainwashed and Crazy scheme. Hirubill is practically like Discord of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys . The monarchs all get injured after a short suitless scene. I really wonder if there's a PSA to this scene. IMHO, there could be one given the injuries that the monarchs had.  Hirubill's plan is apparently to cause an all-out war among the Five Terran Kingdoms. It's a very effective plan for invasion if you think about it. I wonder when will the Galactainsects send some monster-of-the-week? It's funny how I'm not really
