"Mirai Sentai Timeranger" May Have Been Warning Us Of A Possible High Tech Future Stripped Of Basic Humanity (Spoilers)

Image
I wanted to put a huge Mirai Sentai Timeranger tribute. It's already known that I've got blatant favoritism for the whole series . Timeranger is one series that's often considered as "overly serious" that Power Rangers fans tend to defend Power Rangers Time Force,  and pick anything but Timeranger for Yasuko Kobayashi's masterpiece Super Sentai . Choices like Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (because of the fansubs, though it might get a Shout! Factory DVD soon) and Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters are often their top picks! I'd like to think about how Timeranger may have provided warnings about a future that's highly innovative but becomes a dull place to live in!  Timeranger's first episode already highlights the dark, gloomy future. It's a future that's technologically advanced. However, one look at the place and it's easy to seethat the the Year 3,000 A.D. has become nothing more than a COLD ENVIRONMENT. Individualism is almost extinguished. T...

When Super Sentai "Adapts" General Sakimori Miwa From Daimos (Spoilers)

Image
With Daimos having its 45th anniversary - I felt like writing this article. I guess I never bothered to observe how the defunct Super Robot anime still influences Tokusatsu. Sure, we aren't going to see any more of those giant robots since Super Sentai took the spot. It's like how Power Rangers ends up overshadowing the Voltron franchise - both based on a Toei license. I guess World Event Productions (WEP) didn't stand a chance when Haim Saban got his turn with a Toei license. Some shows may be quite old but it doesn't mean they don't deserve a revisit. One character from Daimos would be an interesting revisit. It's the concept of that Stupid Evil bigot named General Sakimori Miwa. Yes, that Baam-hating general who'd do anything to get rid of them AND take the credit for himself. If I'm not wrong, the last Super Robot Anime that Toei had was Dairugger XV . Yes, that very show became the source material of the unpopular Vehicle Voltron cartoon. I guess ...

Can The Grandfather Paradox Plot Be Applied In Timeranger?

Image
It's time for a Throwback Thursday post. While I was actually looking at why time travel is just scientifically impossible - I also found details of the grandfather paradox. It seems to be what was used as a plot device in Mirai Sentai Timeranger . Yes, Timeranger could be operating on that grandfather paradox. If you haven't watched Timeranger then avert thine eyes. Again, if you're a spoiler addict (and I am THAT) then don't. This would tie in with the Asami Dysfunctionality  which in itself led to certain events in the 30th century. I was thinking about how the link between the 30th century and the 20th century were in Timeranger. A lot of events were permitted by Captain Ryuuya. Speaking of which - shouldn't Don Dolnero's escape be investigated and Captain Ryuuya be put into question as to why he allowed such events to happen? It's criminal neglect if you ask me. Also, consider that the finale itself posts the question, "If Tatsuya dies then would...

Groundhog Day - Exceedraft Episode 10 And Timeranger Episode 35

Image
Well, it looks like that Sailor Otaku is now back on track to subbing Tokosou Exceedraft after finishing the Shinkalion project. I just had a bit of a flashback in the 90s when I just watched shows even if I couldn't understand it - as long as it was a kiddie show or felt like it. I think it was Star TV Chinese Channel (and mind you, I couldn't understand it!) when I first saw Exceedraft. Exceedraft episode 10 is a very weird episode and may be painful to watch for some. Maybe, one can say it's still a weird show. Then again, how many times has the supernatural hit its predecessors Winspector and Solbrain? Those shows were sci-fi with the supernatural. In fact, Exceedraft would face off Iwao Daimon who turns out to be the Devil in human form. So, it shouldn't be surprising that Hayato gets stuck up in Groundhog Day. If you haven't heard of the movie then you may consider at least Googling about it. The movie is tedious to watch when a selfish reporter is forced t...

Timeranger As A Sprawling, Ambitious Super Sentai Series

Image
I think there's probably still some debate over which Super Sentai series (or maybe, even Kamen Rider series) would be Yasuko Kobayashi's Magnum Opus. Some may name it with Shinkenger (which I beg to disagree even if I'm a fan), maybe others would even say it's ToQGer, or others would probably name Gingaman or Go-Busters. Sure, these series I just mentioned have their merits in some way. ToQGer itself can also have an ambitious concept which I think will be further refined with Kiramager (hopefully). Go-Busters itself was an ambitious series that sought to return to darker and edgier roots but didn't bother to carry over the whole post-apocalyptic setting of Power Rangers RPM. Personally, Go-Busters' finale really that well-written as Yasuko Kobayashi (as well as Toshiki Inoue) aren't known for writing good finales either. Gingaman itself, well, I admit I just rode on Sentai Bandicoot's opinion a lot during that time. I was also part of the bandwagon o...

2000 A.D. - A Champion Year For Toei Ltd.'s Tokusatsu That Started A New Trend

Image
It's time for some #FlashbackFridays if there's also #ThrowbackThursdays. Sometimes, I just don't feel too comfortable with most post Go-Busters Super Sentai - maybe except for Kyuranger and Lupinranger vs. Patranger for my taste. Sure, those two aren't really top masterpieces for me but I admit that I give them huge points for trying something much newer than the fourth dinosaur Super Sentai, Ryusoulger. Then, I decided to look back when the Year 2000 happened which would be the final year of the 20th century and the beginning of the 2000s. We've had the 2010s and today it's the beginning of the 2020s. I might be kind of old-fashioned with Tokusatsu (though I do love newer Kamen Rider) and I'd love to take a trip back in time. So, let's get started with why I think celebrating the 20-year mark should be very important as a new decade begins... How Kuuga ended up reimagining the Kamen Rider franchise Checking the long history of the Kamen Ri...

My Shifting Opinions On Mirai Sentai Timeranger

Image
It's no secret that Mirai Sentai Timeranger will be turning 20 years old, right? It's been 20 years since it aired in the year 2000. Now, it's time to consider it as what could be called an overly ambitious TV series. Some might call it to be an overly ambitious era from 1999 up to 2000 with GoGoFive and Timeranger . Yasuko Kobayashi's work as a head writer in Super Sentai did leave some impact. One can consider that some fans think Shinkenger is her best work. Others have a different opinion by saying that it's  Gingaman , Go-Busters , or ToQGer  depending on the viewer. Until now, I do still feel Dryed Mangoez's ToQGer review is somewhat weird even when I appreciate him for defending Go-Busters . I still think about how I was that big on Shinkenger though my opinion about it changed over time. Timeranger just happens to be that show that also shook my opinion on Shinkenger . I still probably hold it in high regard among Kobayashi's works. So, I think ...

2000: Timeranger Ends The 20th Century Heisei Super Sentai Era, Kuuga Begins The Heisei Kamen Rider Era

Image
It's time for a Thursday Throwback again and I decided to come up with this post because of Kamen Rider Zi-O. The Heisei era is coming to an end by next year -- which means that Zi-O will be the last Kamen Rider of said era. Now it's time to consider looking back at two shows last Year 2000 namely Mirai Sentai Timeranger and Kamen Rider Kuuga. What do both shows have in common? They were both shown in the new millennium era. Kuuga premiered on January 30, 2000 and Timeranger premiered on February 13, 2000 of that year -- way before the "Super Hero Time" jingle  was created in 2003 starting with Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger and Kamen Rider Faiz. But they both have a contrasting difference -- one show ended an era while another began a new era. The Kamen Rider franchise was struggling to return back to its feet. The 90s had some pretty good Super Sentai shows (such as Jetman, Dairanger, Megaranger, Gingaman and GoGoFive) or some Metal Hero series which I deem as the f...

Timeranger To An Infinite Tomorrow

Image
Shogo B'Stard finally presented his rather long Time Force-related post on the End of Time . I decide to reply to this "debate" (not really) with my thoughts on Timeranger's finale. I like to state it how Toshiki Inoue, Yasuko Kobayashi and I like to lump Judd Lynn with them tend to write weaker finales. I like Jetman but couldn't stand the way Inoue decided to give Gai Yuki a death unworthy of the gates of Valhalla -- then Kobayashi does the same to Naoto Takizawa. I did give out some details on the finale arc in the previous Timeranger entry  which will discuss the finale arc. But I may want to make it "more readable but with detail" -- or not. I really thought about Tatsuya's main concern. We've had the calm before the storm. Dolnero is good as dead. You think everything's okay? But you've got the Great Annihilation to think about which is about to happen in the Year 3001. Was it supposed to be a delayed "end of the world...
