Strange Coincidence: "Home Along Da Riles" Parodied "Power Rangers" While Goranger's 20th Anniversary Was Nearing

Image
Maya Imamori's half-Filipino heritage (mother side, though she might have Chinese blood running in her veins) can trigger me. However, I assumed that either Rin Takanashi or Kazusa Okuyama (both pink rangers) were born from Filipino mothers in 2009 and 2018. This reminds me of some strange, random throwback I had from my childhood. For some reason, Power Rangers didn't reach the Philippines until 1995 instead of later in 1994. Were there some issues in logistics or what? Not all Power Rangers seasons even air in the Philippines. As per marketing decision -- Power Rangers was put into the Philippines instead of Super Sentai  -- presumably due to the Philippines' status as a FORMER AMERICAN COLONY . I don't like Power Rangers BUT I refuse to blame the franchise as to why Super Sentai is no longer aired in D*MN AWFUL F***ING BORING TAGALOG DUBS! A parody seems to be always due whenever something gets famous -- such as was the case when Home Along Da Riles (Home Along the R...

Gorenja's 50th Anniversary And Its Legacy With Super Sentai History

Image
Feeling old yet? Himitsu Sentai Goranger will turn 50 this Saturday, or reach its GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY . I heard that Goranger and Dengekitai JAKQ were retroactively added several times. Goranger and JAKQ both got into and out of the list of Super Sentai . Goranger's status was pretty much murky. I got most of my information from the Power Rangers Wiki -- which is subject to fan error every now and then! Now, it's time to look into the history of Goranger as to how it may have significantly shaken the list. Its shaky status in the 1980s I remember a strange 1980s song "Super Sentai Banbaraban" which mixed the medley of some classic Ishinomori shows with Super Sentai series from Goranger up to Dai Sentai Goggle V. Other shows added where the opening songs of  Android Kikaider , Daitetsujin 17 (which only lasted 35 episodes), and Ucchu Keiji Gavan . Feeling old yet? It added Goranger and JAKQ into the acknowledgement. Rakuten Mobile This is an interesting find. Choshins...

1975, 1985, 1995: When Rangers Were Militarily-Trained Rangers

Image
I couldn't come up with a good ramble. I had recent thoughts considering that I'm FREAKING AS OLD AS DENGEKI SENTAI CHANGEMAN . However, I've treated Super Sentai more like a side hobby like everything else in the entertainment world. I'm proud to say that I've actually watched a lot of the older entries and the newer ones. Yes, that's why I ask how many old shows have you tried watching. Not everyone can truly watch the older seasons and some older fans may drop Super Sentai for other stuff. Heck, I've been contemplating that for the nth time. However, No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger and Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger were kiddie shows that don't ignite my Kiddie Show Sunday Spirit .  Anyway, let's define the word ranger. The word ranger usually means a keeper of the British royal park OR a body of organized armed men for law enforcement. Overtime, the term ranger has been popularized for Power Rangers . Super Sentai eventually kept using either ranger or the short...

That 70s Super Sentai (Some Spoilers)

Image
That 70s Show, ALRIGHT!  I'm really feeling old as I feel the effects of the Space-Time Alpha Sword on me . I still find it weird that I had a love interest who looks like Mika Katsumura -- she's married to someone else now. It wasn't meant to be. I tried watching Battle Fever J then I took the challenge of watching Himitsu Sentai Goranger and Dengekitai JAKQ . Some people called me a baby back then for watching  Power Rangers in the 1990s -- that was all before I dropped the franchise out of PERSONAL REASONS . Officially, I've finally watched the whole 1970s era of Super Sentai . This was what might be the "simpler era" or figuring things out era. My late 30s self has an easier time watching older Super Sentai than newer ones -- even when I can still enjoy newer ones. But as said, it's not about older fans and rose-tinted glasses but on mostly younger fans! It can't be denied that before Super Sentai -- there was Tatsunuko's Science Ninja Team Gat...

Trying Out The Goranger-JAKQ Challenge

Image
I posed a challenge by asking how many old-school Super Sentai series one watched . It's also important to ask how updated is the person. It's because there's the possibility of GENERATION GAPS . Realizing Voltes V was from the 1970s made me think that I had a better connection with Golion from the 1980s. It's easier to watch a show not much older than me than a show way older than me. I watched Kamen Rider Amazons which was very 1974 -- 40 years ago today! I could relate better to Kamen Rider Amazons which was in the 2010s. The same goes for the first two Super Sentai series -- namely Himitsu Sentai Goranger and JAKQ Dengekitai . These shows can be as ancient because Goranger is going 50 years old next year. JAKQ was in 1977.  There will be some spoilers! Watching Goranger can be challenging due to how "the first" can be THAT LONG and THAT OLD A lot of earlier series extend to absurd lengths. Mazinger Z had 98 episodes compared to  Great Mazinger and Grendi...

Are You Willing To Watch Goranger And JAKQ?

Image
Watching old school Super Sentai can be a challenge. That's why I even want to advise now that if an old school Super Sentai doesn't match your taste - you might as well drop it. Then again watch it before you drop it - that is try to at least see a few episodes. I think the two seasons that might be a challenge to watch are Himitsu Sentai Goranger and Dengekitai JAKQ . For what reasons? They are 1970s Super Sentai and it's already 2020. Goranger has turned 45 years old and I wonder how many are willing to watch it? What's with Goranger? Goranger shares the same problem with the first season of Gatchaman and the first Kamen Rider. Gatchaman and Goranger are very long series. Interestingly, Isao Sasaki sang for both Goranger and Gatchaman. The first Kamen Rider had 98 episodes. Gatchaman had 105 episodes. Goranger is a little merciful because it's at least only 84 episodes. Thankfully, Gatchaman's follow-up sequels had much lesser episodes to count. It's pr...
