I think this is one guilty pleasure that some Super Sentai fans do. I even feel this happens a lot with Power Rangers fans who end up watching the source material. It was probably very common last 2011 (because Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger was a series where all 34 previous Super Sentai series were placed) and maybe some attempted it also in 2012-2016 only to realize that Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger takes place in another Universe . Kikou Sentai Zenkaiger also wrote all the different Super Sentai to take place in different realities. Almost every Super Sentai is self-contained except for a select few. What causes this guilty pleasure to happen anyway? It's plain stupid to try and link Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger into every series since 1985 The recent Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger is pretty much obviously self-contained. I think most Kamen Rider series these days are self-contained since Kamen Rider Kuuga . I even heard that while Kamen Rider Agito was meant to be a direct sequel - that was canceled

There's always that time when I felt, "Screw it! I'm over!" with Super Sentai especially 10 years ago . I felt that if I can do that to Power Rangers (which I dislike) - I could do that to source material. In this case, the way Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger gets introduced (such as a very different setting with no modern Japan and five kingdoms) can make even a casual fan get overly excited. I was complaining about the early revelation of the Obviously Evil Racules being brothers with Gira. However, it's giving way to new mysteries that may be slowly unveiled like a J-Drama would. An early revelation that could create more mysteries from Ishabana The five kingdoms that govern this Alternate Earth (Chikyu is Earth, after all) seem to be a fusion of continents. As a child growing up in the Philippines, I could remember the eye-catch which I found irritating. The eye-catch was pretty much something used to begin and end a commercial break. It's more fun to watch the shows without the commercial break. However, networks make money through commercials. I did also remember the commercial breaks such as toy commercials and food product commercials. The eye-catch was definitely, "We'll be right back after these messages." Their equivalents to the West are TV bumpers - something to get in and out of the commercial.  The way they are drawn almost resembles something out of Marvel and DC cartoon adaptations. Like any superhero show - the Super Sentai eye-catch had to change depending on the context. What came out with the use of classic illustrations (something I doubt will be all that appreciated today) would explore other ways to do them. Unlike Kikou Sentai Zenkaiger , I feel that maybe, just maybe, Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger might be what's needed for a new generation. A whole new world. It's obviously self-contained. After Toshiki Inoue's return to Super Sentai headwriting (and I wonder why he was never assigned as the secondary writer for Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters ) with the rather lighthearted Avatar Sentai Donbrothers - I think Minato Takano and Takahito Oomori are up to something. I guess my experience with the Super Sentai franchise can be a rollercoaster. I had issues with Super Sentai after Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . I may consider Power Rangers Megaforce to be the biggest mess in Toei Ltd.'s intellectual property list. However, that hasn't stopped me from berating Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger to be a weaker series. I also feel Kishinryu Sentai Ryusoulger was indeed weak and unenjoyable IMHO. I could go ahead and rant how I felt Kikou Sentai Zenkaiger has to be another weak anniversary by Junko Komura. Heck, I don't even find myself wanting to rewatch Doubotsu Sentai Zyuohger - a series I feel tends to focus more on the chicks than the content.
