Trademarks and Milestones in the 2000s Sentai

Image
The thing is here's what I think marks our current era of Sentai: The use of the "Anime feel" in dressing which was introduced in Timeranger. Also Timeranger is the first to include Goranger and JAKQ in the Sentai timeline in contrast to Turboranger. The introduction of the uniforms get mixed reactions. I kind of liked the uniforms if you ask me. There have also been attempts to have some "old school" while "trying to keep it fresh". I think Shinkenger is at it as well as Dekaranger (the stay-in-your-cockpit scenario). The gathering of the red rangers in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai. How they gathered is left to fan's imagination. A frequent trying to break the traditions without compromising quality. It pleases new fans while some fans are too unfriendly to change. Well that's that. Boukenger did it the most IMO and so did Dekaranger. Action is still good but not as good as it used to be most of the time. Sentai girls are the hottest from...

Trademarks and Milestones in the 90s Sentai

Image
I think IMO the 90s era of Sentai is the best. So far we have these trademarks that went on although as usual NOT in all shows: This was the most formally dressed era. It was a time for more unique storytelling methods. Because of this, even mecha started to change in itself like the introduction of the artificial intelligence mecha. Jetman is the most notable and second is Dairanger. My favorite is still Jetman. :-P There has been a better blend of humor and seriousness as to make it more like the real life and the 90s was a good start. I consider this era to be when ladies will be interested with Super Sentai because of better-looking male roles. There was also plenty of action. I consider the 90s to be the best with fighting scenes. In Zyuranger, the trademark sixth ranger was soon added thereafter. Some of them existed as extra heroes who were not officially rangers but were more of allies which is still continued to today. From the extra ranger also came the color silver in...

Trademarks and Milestones in the Late 70s-80s Sentai

Image
The fact is Sentai in the 80s had their milestones and trademarks which I can name are: The outfit styles were typical 80s. Self-explanatory. Even many of the men and women had those Grease hairstyles. Turboranger was the last Sentai to do so. Sentai violence was kind of heavy in the 80s and guns were frequently used. It was also the era that was soon trying to mix the extra ranger additional plot in trial and error. Perhaps the best example is X-1 Mask in Maskman who only appeared in episode 39. The concept was also used in Bioman in episodes 35-36 with Yatori who wanted to join the Biomen. Robots back then were much simpler. Robots only began to combine in Liveman and Turboranger. In Goranger and JAKQ there were no robots. Battle Feve J introduced a giant robot that immediately appeared into battle. There were less toys to sell then. :-P There were the flying fortresses that carried the mecha into battle. It ended with Turboranger but it was returned for a short time in Ca...

Evil Sentai Groups

Image
Yes there were "copy rangers" which happened in Goggle V (the Deathdark Five), Fiveman (see below), Jetman (incomplete as Black Condor wasn't copied) and Zyuranger (the leader was a Dora monster named Dora Mirage) but there were the real evil sentai counterparts too. They are: The Beastnoids of Chodenshi Bioman formed a team of five twice- in the movie and in episode 31. They hardly fight together but they did anyway and they had their own team-up attack. Each one served to fight the Bioman for a respective episode and retreated, not killed by the team attack. Later Messerjuu and Aquagaiger died while Psygorn, Mettzer and Juuoh were upgraded (they died towards the finale). Juuoh is the acting leader and he serves Monster. On the other hand Psygorn is Mason's preferred beastnoid most of the time and Mettzer is Farrah's preferred beastnoid though they also interchange commanders. I count them as an evil sentai group. Fiveman later had the Gingamen (not to be c...

Sentai Team Battlizers

Image
So far sentai later introduced Battlizers in the regular line of the series. These are "upgrades" which are used when the situation gets too tough. Rather than being individual, all five don these. Fiveman was the first to present the team battlizer. This is when they were facing stronger monsters from Chevalier. This allows them to break the most unbreakable matter but it was rarely used due to it being too cheesy. I mean, Five Red was able to defeat Rock-Fossil Jin with this one, an incomplete Five team defeat the Ammonite Jin with this and eventually Five Red used it to defeat Billion. Whether or not this is canon is up to you. It was from Megaranger vs. Carranger, the second somewhat canon crossover (Kakuranger vs. Ohranger is NOT canon). The Gingamen had the Lights of Ginga.  After the Lights of Ginga was unearthed, the Gingamen were able to use it in its physical form. This was later used in Dekaranger in a mission to rescue both Doggy and Dekasilver fro...
