Donbrothers' Fondness For Food "Porn"?

Image
Sure, you probably had seen Kamen Rider Kabuto which was that Kamen Rider season that made you go hungry. Well, I could also remember the "Food Fight" episode in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers back in the 1990s. This week's Avatar Sentai Donbrothers episode showed Toshiki Inoue's rather weird sense of humor. Meanwhile, we have Tyuyoshi going crazy and calling a doll Miho-chan and it looks like Miho returned home. Again, I'm not doing episode reviews these days, okay?  The episode really made me want to eat out again. We know how the pandemic sucks right? Can't eat in a diner last 2020. Now, there's limited dine-in yet there's still the risk of catching Omicron even if you're vaccinated with the Legacy Virus booster. Oh yeah, Kohaku Shida did get the mild variant of the Legacy Virus. The episode had a food critic who couldn't get satisfied until some kind of strange egg was served. Though, this wasn't the only episode that Donbrothers  wh

Remembering Burai's Final Hours In Zyuranger's 30th Anniversary And In The Light Of A Recent Tragedy

Image
The death of Jason David Frank (JDF) last November 20, 2022, really reminded me of Burai's death in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger . Not surprisingly, Shiro Izumi (who's 61 by now) had given his condolences and called JDF "Dragon Ranger" instead of Green Ranger. Green Ranger is a very generic term and may be confused with Midoranger (Mido means green) from Himitsu Sentai Goranger or any of the spandex heroes in green. I heard it was suicide and five years ago - we also had Tatsuya Nomi of Gosei Sentai Dairanger die of suicide five years ago. I could accept Koji Naka's death by sickness but some deaths are so frustrating to read. I felt Nomi and JDF could've sought some help. I feel that JDF may have had the same issues with Baku Hatakeyama (the first Kiranger) who unfortunately also committed suicide.  I may not like Power Rangers. It's obvious that I'm a Super Sentai snob in some way. It's the sense that I practically dislike the franchise. Yet, someho

Metal Hero, Got Canceled, But Somehow Still Remembered By Super Sentai

Image
It's no secret that we haven't had a new Metal Hero show since Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack ended in 1999. Sure, Robotack, the titular hero, did eventually make it out alive but the title obviously showed that the Metal Hero franchise was really ending. The 1990s was a rollercoaster of sorts. After Kamen Rider BLACK RX ended in 1989 (which was two-year run for Kotaro Minami, and a total of 98 episodes as the main character just like The First Kamen Rider ) - we had no Kamen Rider series. We sure had two short movies and that oddity (which I think was still good) in Kamen Rider Shin back in 1992. I decided to do a bit of a tribute for the 40th anniversary (since Ucchu Keiji Gavan was aired in 1983) after I did a rather hasty review on Metal Hero . Until now, I speculate that the cancellation of Metal Hero had to do with the revival of the Kamen Rider franchise . Kamen Rider really ended up having metallic references such as metallic suits, we had Kamen Rider  Kabuto on the 10th an

Go-Busters/Power Rangers RPM Similarities

Image
Here's another post that I decided to update. Yes, it was written some time ago but as said, some posts can be revised. It's no secret that I tend to compare Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters to Power Rangers RPM . I did lie that I preferred Engine Sentai Go-onger (which I hated after watching Gekisou Sentai Carranger which ran over two Turbos as well). I'd admit that I ended up rewatching Go-Busters after I finished Beast Morphers . I still think Beast Morphers has likable heroes while the problem it had was  heavily relying on throwbacks .  Back in 2012, I remembered how I had mixed opinions on Go-Busters . Thanks to Dryed Mangoez - I came out of the closet about it that I think Go-Busters is a good series. I'm not surprised that Lester of Dryed Mangoez expressed negative opinions on Beast Morphers later. Though, I did once call Go-Busters as the pseudo-sequel of Power Rangers RPM . Sounds crazy, right? Not if you realize I also called Kamen Rider Decade the pseudo-sequel of

What if Toshiki Inoue Were Go-Busters' Secondary Writer?

Image
Okay, I decided to revisit and update this post which was written last 2014 . This is just some random post I wrote. I decided to update this post since Toshiki Inoue had returned to become a Super Sentai head writer in 2022 with Avatar Sentai Donbrothers . So far, Donbrothers is enjoyable and it has managed to keep the Ranger History lessons to a mininum. 2022 is also 10 years after Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . I felt that Inoue was somehow underutilized in Super Sentai during the 2000s - maybe except for the guest writing that he did during Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger's "cruel episode". Yes, I still stand by it me thinking it's a very cruel episode. Go ahead, get mad, but as said I still think it's a cruel episode. Still, I felt that the "cruel episode" should've been a hint that Inoue was fit to be a writer for Go-Busters .  Yasuko Kobayashi became the head writer. The secondary writers were Kento Shimoyama (who was with the terrible Shuriken Sentai Ni

The Strange Plot Of Natsumi And Miho

Image
Halloween may be over (and I wanted to write this post previously). However, due to the fact that well, there's no Kiddie Show Sunday this week  which I think is due to the sports event. I wonder how my younger self would react. It's the ongoing plot of Natsumi Kuromochi and Miho Kijino. Both are played by the same actress namely Momoko Arata. This is pretty much a lot of weird comic book plots copied. Yeah, we know how Tokusatsu does copy plots also from a lot of American pop culture references, right? Toshiki Inoue is a man regarded for his weird humor as well. Avatar Sentai Donbrothers is one show that doesn't have the older Inoue trademarks. Inoue, a man known for nightmare fuel, early on, would later attempt comedy and it was hit or miss. I seldom even wonder what if Inoue took part in writing Samurai Sentai Shinkenger or Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . Sure, I'll forever consider Inoue's Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger that incredibly "cruel episode". However, I

Random Rant: I Think I'm Getting Tired Of Super Sentai Reunion Movies

Image
Maybe, I didn't want to write this. Sure, I do get stuck with nostalgia (at times). I did want to check out more older Super Sentai entries which I haven't seen. I must admit it wasn't easy to watch more Super Sentai after Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters . I'm the type to be critical about results. If the changes bring in good things then fine. If not then change for the sake of it is just stupid. That's why I still believe that Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger has been WAY BETTER than Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger . Now, I've heard (and it's confirmed) that Abaranger is getting a 20 years later movie (and so will Ninpou Sentai Hurricanger ). Didn't Hurricanger have a 10 years later movie last 2012 ? Later, we had a 10 years later movie for Tokosou Sentai Dekaranger  - one that was probably meant to bridge to Space Squad which premiered in 2017. Though, I'm wondering why there hasn't been a new Space Squad movie. Is Toei Ltd. biting more than it could chew AGAIN? Wh
