Remembering Older Super Sentai's Use Of Now-Obsolete Technology To Fight Villains

Image
Granted, 2022 would be Denji Sentai Megaranger's silver anniversary. Megaranger may be more mega than that idiotic Power Rangers Megaforce   while I believe that not all people will be able to relate to it. I still believe that there's that HUGE GENERATION GAP between older and newer Super Sentai entries . I decided to do some random rant for #ThrowbackThursdays recalling the 1980s to 1990s - the era I was born in and the era of my childhood. Oh yes, those moments when I remembered going to the arcade  (which I don't miss ever since the dawn of the Playstation consoles), how I actually fought with my parents every time I had to miss an episode of my favorite shows (such as Conan the Adventurer which I feel is an Old Shame now), how having a personal computer (and I was stuck with an obsolete model for too long, my parents NEVER understood the benefit of a higher model probably due to their generation) was a "luxury", and how that ANNOYING dial-up Internet meant I

Wacky Post: I Feel Haruka Kito Reminds Me Of Both Yoko Usami And Zoey Reeves

Image
I just can't resist writing a wacky post times where it was comparing a certain group to a certain cop or how Donbrothers (of all Super Sentai series) got me reminded of Beast Morphers . Since Beast Morphers is based on Go-Busters (which is a favorite of mine for trying to return back to serious roots but not too high either) - I'd like to do this wacky post to say how Haruka Kito reminds me of not just Zoey Reeves (both are menial workers) but also of YOKO USAMI . It sounds crazy but it's true! I decided to give Beast Morphers to see how Hasbro will handle the Power Rangers franchise. I ended up criticizing Beast Morphers for trying to tie back everything back to 1993 instead of trying to become more self-contained. I also felt that Evox as Venjix is too predictable. I felt it'd be as bad as what if Go-Busters had a plot where Messiah Virus was Yogoscrimaten all along. The Ark in Kamen Rider Zero-One was fortunately NOT linked to the Great Leader of the Showa era. Besi

Seven Harsh Realities Of Being A Super Sentai Ranger

Image
CBR.com has an article on the eight harsh realities of being a Power Ranger . These are pretty much carried over because there are also harsh realities with being a Sentai Ranger too. Yes, I prefer to use the term RANGER over WARRIOR even if I dislike Power Rangers . So, I decided to make my own version which can be easily observed. Some Super Sentai teams didn't get trained before fighting the bad guys I wonder what in the world is the logic with choosing novices who haven't learned to fight just yet? It may be, "Don't question logic and just enjoy the show." However, there's got to be a HEALTHY MIX of suspension of disbelief and logical parts. Sure, maybe it's best we ignore how Japan keeps getting rebuilt EVERY WEEK but we need to think about the vulnerability of people. A good example is how Goggle V chose five random civilians to fight Deathdark. Sure, they had their qualifications BUT seriously? Shouldn't they get training before fitting the more

Ten Harsh Realities Of Watching Super Sentai

Image
I may not like the Power Rangers franchise but I felt that the shows have common "screw logic" situations. So, I decided to write this post about the harsh realities while watching Super Sentai . Having watched a lot of old school entries and new school entries (and some older Super Sentai series just get dropped off due to generation gaps) means I could observe it. I think these are realities that Super Sentai fans really need to face. The inspiration for this post is based on CBR's " Ten Harsh Realities of Watching Power Rangers ".  T he tendency to have an uneven distribution of development in some seasons There's really the truth that the Red Ranger is the star of the show , right? Why do you think Aka Red got created for the VS. Movies and Gokaiger,  to begin with? Some shows tend to focus on the Red Ranger A LOT. I mean, A LOT. I think Maskman (even if it's a favorite of mine) tends to focus TOO MUCH on Takeru in terms of moving the plot. Sure, we

Sentai DVD Rambling: Which Hirohisa Soda Series Should Be Next For An Official DVD Release

Image
Just hearing Chikyu Sentai Fiveman is on the next line is something. I always feel that Fiveman may never get into the same level as Chikyu Sentai GoGoFive . I want to pretend that some fans of Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue may want a Shout! Factory DVD release of Tokkei Winspector instead. Fiveman may have gotten its following but GoGoFive really beats it by MILES. I could go ahead and ignore Lightspeed Rescue while watching GoGoFive but NEVER Fiveman. Now, for the next possible pre- Zyuranger DVD release I'll prioritize Hirohisa Soda - a writer I feel got appreciated back then but ended up getting less appreciated because of other writers like Toshiki Inoue, Yasuko Kobayashi, and Junki Takegami. I Kosoku Sentai Turboranger I can't really be sure if this is a good idea. Gekisou Sentai Carranger ended up getting vindicated to the point some fans thought that Carranger "saved" Super Sentai . However, Choriki Sentai Ohranger and Carranger suffered from lower ratings u

Fiveman's DVD Release: Vindicated By History Or Still Destined To Be OVERSHADOWED?

Image
"One, two, three, four, five - FIVEMAN!" the very series that NEARLY killed Super Sentai is getting an official English subtitle release . I personally didn't see this coming because of a couple of past Super Sentai DVD releases most of them are better than what Chikyu Sentai Fiveman has to offer. My personal take has always been Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive  will always be MILES BETTER than Fiveman ever will be in the sibling Super Sentai arena. The 1990s began with two shows where one was a smash hit and the other nearly killed a franchise . Combine both shows and you get GoGoFive .  I guess Fiveman has been vindicated by history to a certain extent. I may not like it as much as I used to BUT it has likable characters. The ranger cast is rather strong. I feel like Ken Hoshikawa became a template for Chad Lee in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue - both are athletic badasses that fought off a monster-of-the-week whilst unmorphed. Though, I felt Chad's episode could've co
