Wacky Wishful Casting: Some Old Super Sentai Veteran Should've Been Douga
King-Ohger isn't an anniversary season yet the budget can be MIND-BLOWING. Is it because Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers entered its 30th year and Toei wants to remember one of its biggest moments in the international market? Then I remembered 1988 was also the year of Chojuu Sentai Liveman. Now, it's time to point out another wacky wishful casting.
Don't get me wrong I do still think Yutaka Morioka does a good job being Douga. Douga's a sideline character so it doesn't require that much skill. That's as long as the actor does a good job in doing what they do, right? However, I felt that some of the Liveman alumni should've returned to play the role of the royal bodyguard.
It's quite a bummer that Super Sentai alumi Daisuke Shiima retired last 2013. I kinda of wanted to see Red Falcon's actor act as Douga - the royal bodyguard of the Husty family. It would've been interesting because he'd be a former Red Ranger actor acting as a bodyguard to the Red Ranger. How cool would have that been?
Daisuke did play an older Yuusuke Amamiya in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai. Sure, it's not canon but it was cool to see the still-learning Gaku Washio fight against the more-experienced Yuusuke. Yuusuke wanted to impart an important lesson to Gaoranger Gaku. Sure, I wanted Gaku Hoshimawa of Chikyu Sentai Fiveman for that part for the sake of a pun. Interestingly, Toshiya Fuji had a guest role in Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger. I kinda wish both Five Red and Red Falcon swapped roles. Grrrr! Too late for that!
I think it would've been cooler IF Daisuke hadn't quit acting just yet. It'd be fun to see Red Falcon's actor draw the royal blade. It'd be fun to see Daisuke encourage the very young actors that they too carry the Super Sentai torch while being a different character.
