Looking Back At Go-Busters VS. Gokaiger Five Years After Beast Morphers Aired Last 2019

These days I don't really care about the Super Sentai VS. Movies. Most of them tend to be like the Dragon Ball Z movie series -- a series of What-If scenarios. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger is already a fun continuity error. Many events in previous Super Sentai series can't be connected. I rewatched Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters after I finished Power Rangers Beast Morphers. This reminds me Power Rangers' use of continuity vs. Super Sentai's mostly self-contained plots are probably due to CULTURAL DIFFERENCES. This TV special is no different as several plots make them NON-CANON.

There are going to be several non-canon events. One can have fun and point out the glaring continuity errors. Who can remember how events unfold in most Super Sentai crossover movies? This one spared no effort to let you know it's just another crossover film. However, the existence of the Dino Curry in these movies might be someone's favorite excuse for justifying that there's actually a Super Sentai timeline. The Gokaigers gave up the Greater Powers back to their OG owners. Several cameos were made where rangers got their OG powers back. However, the TV special showed that the Gokaigers could still use the Ranger Keys -- something that should've been IMPOSSIBLE to do so.

The Gokaigers had supposedly gone rogue. A non-canon relative namely Bacchus Gill enters. Bacchus plans to avenge both his uncle Ackdos and his cousin Warz. Probably, Bacchus wasn't popular enough to return in that FLUNKED Super Hero Taisen movie. Yes, I ended up HATING THAT FILM while I'm open to it becoming a video game! The heroes are scattered across time and the world. However, Super Sentai's limitations prevent it from actually going to the actual places. Many of the "other countries" here may be CGI. It's a common practice in shows to create a CGI setting -- giving the impression that they actually flew to different countries!

The show featured a What If element called the Greater Power of the Go-Busters. Just a bit of a reminder that the Go-Busters' Enetron ISN'T connected to some Morphin' Grid! Beast Morphers came up with the idea of Morph-X. However, Power Rangers RPM takes place in some other dimension -- just like Go-Busters. Dimensional travel is the only easy explanation for that GLARING error of Gavan's entrance to the Go-Busters continuity. However, there's really no single explanation for how the Gokaigers got the Ranger Keys back. I feel it was meant to be there to show this is what Oboro would call, "It's just a TV special."

It has me thinking of two possible scenarios. It could've been cool IF Go-Busters was part of the whole continuity. However, trying to connect every SINGLE ENTRY into one timeline can create creativity problems. I should've dropped Beast Morphers the moment Mayor Daniels mentioned RITA up to GALVANAX. It may sound cool on paper if a mayor mentioned Enetron was desired from Black Cross Army up to last year's Zangyack. However, keeping most of Go-Busters on its own continuity was more effective. Keeping most Super Sentai series in their own continuities gives room for better ideas. It's nice to connect a few series. However, I still feel that Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger should've not been connected to Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. Some series are better off written without the previous series in mind. That way, writers and producers can START FROM SCRATCH instead of using the same dashboard all the time. Fortunately, some Power Rangers series started creating different continuities like RPM. IMHO Beast Morphers should've just been in the RPM Universe WITHOUT linking to the others

It's still a fun crossover. I believe one can enjoy even what's not part of the official canon. It's like how one can still enjoy Super Mario Bros. 3 even if it's just a stage play. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is obviously non-canon but it's a solid game overall. Many non-canon stuff are good for what they're worth.
