Talking About Generation Gaps In Gozyuger?

Feeling old yet? I wrote that post in 2016. It reminds me of how Mirai Sentai Timeranger's Ranger History Lesson (special episode) called Himitsu Sentai Goranger "Your parents' Super Sentai." Timeranger was the 24th series and it felt like a grand finale. It was like Toei was telling audiences that Hyajakuu Sentai Gaoranger was rebooting Super Sentai. Super Sentai needs a reboot if it expects to go on for a long time. Keep the current audience in check! Goranger will turn 50 years old this April 4, 2025. So yeah, big event. And now, it's time for the generation gap jokes in No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger.

Episode 4's Old Man Ranger can be considered bonkers for me

Kinjiro Takehara is actually AN OLD MAN? The actor Jun Matsumoto is only 20 (going 21) years old! The old man version is played by Masako Kobayashi -- who's only 76. Kinda reminds me of what happens when the actor's actually TOO OLD. However, the late Eddie Garcia continued to film until he died in 2019. Garcia got into an accident, hit into a coma, and died at 90 years old! The actual character's name is JOJI Takehara. I LMAO thinking about gags where old people want to be young again.

There's a trade-off with this wish to be young again though. JOJI has to use the identity as KINJIRO because he's classmates with his GRANDSON, FUTOSHI. It gets funny because I'm reminded of what happened in Dragon Ball GT. Sure, I have no intention to rewatch it but who can remember when Goku became a CHILD AGAIN -- presumably as old as his granddaughter Pan? Super Sentai is never without copying pop culture references huh? Whether it was copying ideas from spy movies to superhero teams -- this is one weird first-time concept!

It's revealed that KINJIRO turns back to JOJI if he lacks a certain type of nutrients -- one can get from eggs! A healthy amount of eggs is said to help for healthy aging in adults. It might become a running gag that Kinjiro reverts to Kinjiro sooner or later. Right now, I even have the desire to become a child again. Times, when I was watching Chojuu Sentai Liveman, made me wish I had Great Professor Bias' machine -- all to become a boy version of myself again!

It turns out that Joji was actually a conservative person. However, Joji's becoming a widower may have shaken his foundations. After all, his late wife told him to live as himself. Speaking of which, Joji would be born in 1937. Joji becomes a 17 year old. So yeah, this kinda brings some computational problems in the next episode.

Episode 5 brings back the memories of that cassette tape

I wasn't good in high school mathematics. If KINJIRO's mind is that of a 17-year-old then he should be living like it's 1954. I Googled about casettes and Philips invented the cassette tape in 1962. I remember using casette tapes in the 1990s before CDs became the thing. DVDs were later created by Sony, Panasonic, PHILIPS, and Toshiba. So yeah, the DVD is a Japanese invention with a Dutch involved! Back on topic, I wonder if Kinjiro's mind is suffering from some backlash again.

There's a generation gap that's played here. Goranger was 50 years ago and casettes were a thing by then. The actress Maya Imamori was born in 2006. Talk about the generation gap! I was able to talk with people more than 10 years below me. I thought about how some people still kept cassettes at home. I remember my paternal grandmother had a collection of old cassette tapes before.

Kinjiro tried to play a CASSETTE TAPE on a CD player. Did becoming young again play a number on his mind? I noticed that Super Sentai typically rewinds the minds of old people who become young again. That means they get lost in the present without the memories they acquired they were old. The rules of old people becoming young again tend to be played differently. However, Kinjiro still has memories as an old man, even in his youthful body. However, why did Kinjiro end up using a casette? Did Kinjiro as Joji refuse to move forward with new technology? It's not that explained. Either way, I was laughing thinking about it!

This reminds me of how many technological chances I've experienced -- as a 1990s child! I'd like to say that Gozyuger doesn't make me feel like a child. Instead, it's making me enjoy Super Sentai as an ADULT. No Kiddie Show Spirit triggered at all!
