A Reference To Zyuranger And Mighty Morphin' In Gozyuger?

I wouldn't be giving episode reviews these days. Expect me to REACT TO UPDATES. If you want updates then CHECK OUT sites like Tokusatsu News Network, UkiyaSeed, and JEFusion (I left guest writing it to pursue my own passion). Anyway, time for a bit of my random react! No. 1 Sentai GoZyuger introduces us to Megumi Osai -- another Universe Warrior. It's explained that the Universe Warriors partake in the power of the red rangers. The only true Super Sentai now are the Gozyugers. Yeah, it seems Gozyuger is some kind of finale-esque Super Sentai entry. I had that feeling when I was watching Mirai Sentai Timeranger and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Well, it also happened during Doubotsu Sentai Zyuohger, which caused that line that still makes me chuckle, "The History of Super Sentai! It's over!" It was also because Shuriken Sentai Ninninger isn't all that good. 

It's really easy to notice some references every now and then. The name Tega Sword sounds like MEGAZORD. I don't have any problem if Power Rangers fans use the their terminologies into Super Sentai. I don't like Power Rangers and I don't like the Zord naming scheme either. The word Zord was derived from SWORD -- as spoken by Margaret Loesch in The Toys That Made Us. Yeah, I don't want to keep bothering those who shouldn't be named -- they really FAIL to do research in marketing or question things from time to time. It amazes me that Daizyujin was the first to get out of the Megazord Graveyard. My assumption was that Power Rangers was trying to ride on Zoids. It's common for shows to ride on something. Super Sentai has been no different and American pop culture can be seen in SEVERAL ENTRIES!

The Gozyugers aren't a team yet. Megumi talks about teamwork. Reviving Daizyujin out of the Megazord Graveyard seems to have a twofold aim. By now, it's more or less common knowledge that Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers is taken from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. However, Zyuranger was stepping out of the comfort zone A LOT MORE. The Zyurangers had to retrieve their Legendary Weapons unlike their predecessors. The Zyurangers didn't learn to work as a team in episodes 5-6. It took a vision for Geki to get everyone together. The Gozyugers need to get their act together like the Zyurangers did. Avatar Sentai Donbrothers hid Tsubaka Izuzaka's identity as the dog Inu Brother for some time.

Having Megumi study Super Sentai history while wearing the Tyrano Ranger suit can be twofold. Zyuranger is a groundbreaker for THE TOYS. My inner child would obviously want Daizyujin over Jet Ikarus. My inner child would have that crush on Mei over Ako (but it's always Kimberly over Mei IMHO). Zyuranger was less appreciated before it gets Vindicated by History -- presumably because it's the source material for Mighty Morphin'. Daizyujin's footage was used to create what was the first Megazord -- for Power Rangers. However, I'd love to see Battle Fever Robo arrive in succeeding episodes -- driven by another gramps! 

Super Sentai may not be airing in America. However, the Shout! Factory DVD gives the "more authentic" experience that a Super Sentai dub couldn't! Hopefully, Toei will be more aggressive with the world market. Gozyuger seems to suggest the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. After all, next year will be the 50th Super Sentai. I wonder if Toei will reboot everything for the nth time?
