Bomber The Great VS. Louie Kaboom Plot Comparison (Spoilers)

It's no secret that I find Choriki Sentai Ohranger to be a messy toy commercial. Come on, no one can deny that throwing one Megazord after the other can derail the plot! It's pretty much overworking the marketing department (and writing too), like what happened with the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z. Now, as messy as Ohranger was, I still find it more watchable than Power Rangers Zeo. Zeo tried to continue where Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Season 3 left off! I'm still SOURED UP until now over the Dear John letter that was presented in Zeo! Now, I'd like to write a bit of a rant on Louie Kaboom (the Zeo counterpart) and Bomber the Great!

One of the reasons why I don't like Power Rangers is how often people have to watch previous entries just to understand another entry. Power Rangers Turbo ended with a cliffhanger, while Gekisou Sentai Carranger gave a proper conclusion. I have to watch Turbo to understand Power Rangers in Space? Not even Tokyu Shirei Solbrain relied too much on its direct predecessor Tokkei Winspector. Kamen Rider BLACK RX for all its flaws, didn't require me to watch all the Showa Riders, well, except Kamen Rider BLACK. So yeah, that's probably why Toei no longer followed the same approach!

Honestly, I thought that the Evil Space Aliens from Mighty Morphin' had become too much of an overextended family and OVERSTAYED THEIR WELCOME! I watched Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger before the official DVD came out. One of the many things I could point out is how the Bandora Gang was defeated in the end. Sure, it was pretty much, "Will these guys ever return?" Well, Toei somehow chose to leave the Bandora Gang in limbo. Mighty Morphin' was supposed to end in 40 episodes but we know how Toei and Saban let greed get the best of them. Toei filmed 25 sets of footage for Saban-only usage. Zeo had the plot where the Machine Empire took over the moon -- forcing the Evil Space Aliens to flee.

Louie Kaboom was made to be a robot created by Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa. It was a plan for them to finally retake the Machine Empire. I decided to see how Zeo ended, and I really feel it's no big loss, not to watch it from start to end! The ending had the Machine Empire blown to bits by Lord Zedd's and Rita's gift -- which was a BOMB. There are times that Lord Zedd and Rita just feel like overused fanservice. Sure, Lord Zedd became MORE DANGEROUS with Rita around. Rito and Goldar lost the remote control -- making Louie Kaboom go haywire and take charge of the Machine Empire for five episodes. The Ohranger version had Bomber the Great take over for seven episodes!

Interestingly, Soda was the one who wrote Bomber the Great's introduction for two episodes. So yeah, talk about Soda having been the person who wrote Bacchushund's defeat an episode earlier. Bomber the Great was once a military officer for Baranoia. However, Bomber the Great decided to take over but was overthrown. Many times, Bomber the Great made me think of Bio Hunter Silver. Soda was also Chodenshi Bioman's head writer. Did Soda decide to revisit the barely there Bio vs. Anti Bio plot in Bioman? Did Soda think that maybe, just maybe, Bomber the Great was going to be his Bio Hunter Silver Expy? Bomber the Great forcibly takes charge of the Baranoia Palace and becomes the main villain -- for at least seven episodes! Bomber the Great was a threat to BOTH the Ohrangers and the Baranoia Royal Family! However, Soda just failed to give Bomber the Great the same impact Silver had. I wonder if Bomber the Great could've benefited IF he could neutralize the Ohrangers' powers?

Watching the Ohranger episodes made me think that man, I'm glad that most Super Sentai series don't keep the previous installments in mind too much! Zeo was becoming more crowded (and Space was also that crowded too) with the previous villains hanging around. Meanwhile, half of me still wanted to force a purposely done horrible fan theory (which is best considered as nothing more than my bad fan fic idea than a fan theory) that the Baranoia are the Anti-Bio Alliance. I wanted to pretend that Bomber the Great and Silver were once comrades-in-arms. The story could work, but ONLY in a non-canon massive crossover. Otherwise, the idea is best left out of the show canon!

Bomber the Great might be the closest Pure Evil character among the Baranoia. Sure, Bacchushund showed cruelty early on to a pair of Machine Beast brothers. However, the series progressed with the Baranoia Royal Family developing human emotions. What made me LMAO though, is how in the world is Bacchushund's head STILL INTACT after being cut in half? Tien's Kikoho from Dragon Ball Z has been explained that it's a diamond shape and Tri-Beam is a mistranslation! The episode showed Bacchushund is pretty much Even Evil Has Loved Ones. Bacchushund gave off whatever power he had to make Prince Buldont grow into Kaiser Buldont. The Zeo version split Buldont into Gasket and Sprocket. I kinda thought that Buldont's accelerated growth was better than Gasket's as the older son. However, that also meant that Ohranger vs. Kakuranger was definitely just a What-If movie. I believe these movies are meant to be non-canon so producers and writers can have fun -- like a glorified fan-fiction!

Bomber the Great was probably meant to highlight the contradictions that the Baranoia Royal Family underwent. Later on, Hysteria develops even more human feelings than she already did. Hysteria cried when Bacchushund shut down. Later, not even Hysteria could stand seeing her son and niece/daughter-in-law Maruchiwa (royal incest was highlighted, presumably to poke fun at the digusting practice) use a human baby as a hostage. Bomber the Great showed almost no redeeming qualities -- for a villain that lasted for only seven episodes. Zeo omitted the mutilation scene and was unable to explain why Louie Kaboom had weapons for hands. Ohranger had that D*MN brutal scene where Buldont and Maruchiwa MUTILATED him by cutting his HANDS off.

Ohranger also included the plot where Bomber the Great was turned into a missile. Bomber the Great was defeated by King Pyramider Battle Formation (with Ohblocker instead). It was a plot to BLOW UP THE SUN. Okay, wouldn't that mean the Baranoia would also die in the process? Weird logic!

In the end, both Bomber the Great and Louie Kaboom were but plot devices. However, Bomber the Great showed the problem of overcrowding during Zeo. It would be awfully crowded if the villains from Zyuranger up to Kakuranger created Bomber the Great. Thankfully, the three shows I just mentioned had proper endings. One good reason why I also dislike the Power Rangers narrative is how it seemed to never end -- during the Zordon Era. Power Rangers Beast Morphers could've just focused PURELY on Power Rangers RPM. Instead, that lack of focus was why I rewatched Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters
