Odd One Out: When A Ranger Is Actually FULLY Non-Human, In A Team Of Humans

This week's Boonboomger gives an explosive revelation. Yes, it's that Genba is actually a cat-like alien from the planet Bureki. Was this a sudden twist or not? Given how superhero shows tend to operate -- it may or it may not. Super Sentai copies tropes here and there so I'm not too surprised. Was this an attempt to add layers or what? Genba has a grudge against Disrace who harmed the planet Bureki -- before the show even began. I realized that some rangers are uniquely non-human in a team of humans. Sure, Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger had four members who were aliens and only two were humans. Here, I'm talking about non-human rangers in a team of humans. That means half-humans like Eiji Takaoka in Gougou Sentai Boukenger aren't included.

Aside from Genba -- here are the rest you may or may not remember...

Sion from Mirai Sentai Timeranger

Timeranger was the very first Super Sentai series to introduce a non-human character. Okay, in Star Wars terminology -- Sion would be a human character. We're not in Star Wars but in Super Sentai. The idea of having an alien member in a team of humans is common among American superheroes. Was this guy meant to be a reference to any Marvel or DC Comics superhero teams? Maybe, maybe not. He also was the last of his kind like Superman was in DC Comics. He hails as the last of his kind from the Planet Hummard.

Beet J. Stag from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters

Android rangers tend to be a rare thing for Super Sentai and Power Rangers. We've had assistant androids more than androids becoming rnagers. Power Rangers Operation Overdrive attempted it with Mack before this happened. Beet was a robot created as a Buddyroid for Masato Jin. Yes, he's a Buddyroid AND a ranger at the same time.

Later android rangers were found in Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger. These were Raptor and Balance. The core team of Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger was composed of mostly androids except for Kaito Goshikida/Zenkaizer.

Akira Nijino from Ressha Sentai ToQGer

Orange is a rare color, right? ToQGer brought back the color orange but only for the sixth ranger. Akira is actually a member of Shadow Line. What makes it feel strange is that he's actually the oldest team member. The ToQGers are children who got magically turned into adults. Akira was a member of Shadow Line who turned against his government.
