Kaiketsu Hunter Omegahorn Is Part Of Gavan Infinity's Continuity (Concerns)

Kaiketsu Omegahorn's second episode has a DIRECT link to Gavan Infinity. Historically, Toei has the habit of making shows either a direct soft sequel OR making shows in separate continuity. Most Super Sentai series usually exist as self-contained, except in rare instances. Super Sentai crossover movies usually depict themselves in ways that contradict the show canon -- basically a series of what-if scenarios! 

However, the Space Sheriff Trilogy was all part of an expanding Universe. The Metal Hero series began with Ucchu Keiji Gavan, followed by the direct sequel Ucchu Keiji Sharivan. The final installment of the series was Ucchu Keiji Shaider. The three Space Sheriffs were soft sequels to each other -- each preceding hero taking a step back. Shaider was the last one and didn't feature the first two heroes within the series. The Metal Hero franchise later spewed mostly self-contained entries for shows like Kyoju Tokosou Juspion, Jiku Senshi Spielban (where Hiroshi Watari acted as the main hero, different character), Chojinki Metalder, Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraiya, and Kido Keiji Jiban. The Rescue Police Trilogy entries Tokkei Winspector, Tokkyu Shirei Solbrain, and Tokosou Exceedraft were soft continuities. Tokosou Robo Janperson up to Blue SWAT should be treated as separate continuities. Juuko B-Figher had a special finale (52-53), which was thankfully not brought up in the soft sequel, B-Fighter Kabuto.

Basically, it seems Project RED as a franchise is still testing the waters. Gavan Infinity ended in 23 episodes. However, it seems that the "premature end" was probably to see how fans may react to it if Omegahorn's continuity shares the same continuity as Gavan Infinity. That's probably why we had that cameo in the second episode.

A mixed approach might be the best way to handle things. Remember how people can both have the desire for a continuity AND a fresh start. Super Sentai seems to operate with "Fresh start is usually better." Kamen Rider once had that soft continuity approach during the Showa Era. However, it seems that most Kamen Rider series since Kamen Rider Kuuga up to the present use self-contained continuities for better innovative writing. Innovation often requires BLANK SLATES more often than not.

Toei's decision to test the waters might be to see how Project RED can work. They're probably planning some series that would be soft sequels to each other. Future entries of Project RED may be self-contained. It might be a case-to-case basis as soft sequels and self-contained continuities have their own charm.
