Sentai Series Whose Finales Continued the Rangers' Quests!
In Super Sentai, what seems to be the norm is this. We defeat enemy group, let's disband but let's keep in touch because our purpose of why the team was created, was finished. For example, one can see that the Jetmen went separate ways, the Zyurangers left the Earth for Heaven, the Kakurangers gave up their henshin devices and so on. In short, a Sentai team is usually destined to disband after the big bad is defeated. However it doesn't seem to be the case for these series I'll mention in this post. I got my idea from this Timeranger post in Henshin Justice.
Dekaranger itself has the whole season fighting against Alienizers who threaten various planets and this time, some of them have arrived on earth. The Dekarangers' main villain Abrella is what I'd call, more ruthless than Dolnero. Like Timeranger, they were chasing alien villains who served as the monster of the week, though they deleted them instead of recapturing them. Now we get to observe how Dekaranger ends after Abrella is defeated. No team disbandment, we see Ban becomes part of the Fire Squad, the rangers still continue with their work as long as they can.. and the Special Police Dekaranger are still hunting Alienizers left and right. Although no second season was made (which I think is for the best) but you can get the message that the Special Police Dekaranger's mission against Alienizers is a lifelong quest.
Boukenger is another series where the quest continues even after the finale. So they do defeat Gaja in a rather lame ending (compare Gaja's survival to Orphnoch King's survival) and the show's quest to grab Precious goes on and on. So Satoru flies into space, Sakura follows him and what is next? We see the Jaryuu remnants without their leader, hunting for Precious and they are still facing Shizuka. The Boukenger's main purpose after all was to secure Precious around the world.
Gokaiger may be another season that just did that. Now I could be wrong or even biased, but after their quest to find the Greatest Treasure in the Universe, it seems to be that their real quest is to find treasure like the Boukenger. In fact, the Gokaigers didn't even disband after they defeated the Zangyack... they continued on as a team. They may be seeking other treasure for all we know!
Missed any? Let me know!

gokaiger did things way differently than the boukengers, the finale was very well done and very well written, everyone was paid tribute to in some way, and things were celebrated properly.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with Gokaigers having a better finale than Boukengers. And the season has a better tribute to its predecessors even if not everyone can get a tribute episode.
DeleteI'm hoping that we get a Gokaiger 5 years after when the 40th anniversary comes around. I felt like they didn't get a proper send off in that Go-Busters movie...I mean Vs Film that treated the Gokaigers like an afterthought.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great... though I'm not that huge a fan of Gokaiger.
