King-Ohger 9-10: Can One Rogue Prince And Four Rulers Work Together?

Okay, be ready for me to give both positive and negative views about Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger. I'm watching shows at a very irregular basis so that's why I don't update this blog as often. Heck, I even wanted to drop Super Sentai because Kikou Sentai Zenkaiger wasn't as well-implemented in spite of creative liberties. Episodes 9-10 would seem to introduce more of the needed teamwork.

Gira has become a wanted fugitive. King Racules' approval rating is somewhat zig-zagged. In Shugoddom, he's got the adoration of blind masses. There's even that fat f*** who makes Bulk and Skull look like geniuses. Maybe, Bulk and Skull would've figured out that Racules is Obviously Evil. Racules wants to recover Gira's body. I think Racules still has doubts Gira survived their Trial by Combat. Though, Racules also wants to get the power from Gira's body. Now, if only there were more clues as to how Gira's kidnapping happened. Was Racules always that evil?

I could easily understand Gira's desire to defeat Racules. However, the other rulers would want to protect Gira. It's too obvious that they don't want to work with Racules. Yanma was fully aware of the scum that Racules truly is. Hiding Gira across the four other kingdoms is easier said than done. I really wanted to joke that Rita herself should've built an emergency Moon Palace of sorts. The scenes that follow are pretty much something that can work ONLY IN CARTOONS. One of Racules' idiotic evil henchmen Douga even mistook a disguised Gira as some teenage genius.

The Bugnarok start a plan since the rulers are somewhat not yet together. At this point, I was hoping we'd get an arc where Gira would be allowed to see a brutal future. It was pretty much like that grim vision Geki saw in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. Yeah, that scene where the other Zyurangers are presented to be DEAD in a vision. I kinda wish we had more flashbacks like that in the newer Super Sentai. Instead, we had the four other rulers defeated. I feel that Super Sentai is no longer allowed to do those brutal scenes similar to Gosei Sentai Dairanger. Instead, most of the wounds are pretty much near PG-7 levels if you ask me!

Five Bugnarok cocoons are placed to hatch five different giant Kaijim. This is almost like a plot from Choriki Sentai Ohranger except that it's done way too early. I could remember one of the many things I asked why don't the enemy release all their giant monsters at once? Well, I guess there's all about Bond Villain Stupidity that dominates villains in the superhero genre right? Super Sentai ain't spared from villains with really ridiculous plans for world domination. Deathnarok VIII might be trying to defy that trope (for now) with this no-joke of a plan.

Now, for more interesting flashbacks...

The story of Legend King-Ohger is foretold in Gira's dream. I hope that the story building for Gira's disappearance will not be rushed. Another flashback of children "playing Power Rangers" or better yet playing King-Ohger is there. I feel that the scene could be a reference to when Japanese children played Super Sentai or American children played Power Rangers. The five rulers are said not to get along but will soon get along.

This is the flashback Gira gets when he's in captivity with Bugnarok. The current Deathnarok ruler demands that the Shugods be summoned. As we know, the Deathnarok are practically the recurring antagonist. Yet, we do have Racules as a third wheel of sorts.

Now, for the more political side...

The wounded are tended at Ishibana. Some of the personal assistants are still unconscious. The attack done by Bugnarok tentacles is really that deadly. I can understand Yanma's frustration even if he's in the wrong. This also leads to more politics by...

Is it me or is Racules that much of an Obviously Evil? Come on, the four other rulers know he's evil. Heck, Racules looks Obviously Evil! Racules demands the surrender of the kingdoms to him and for what? This hero-wannabe here is an obvious Fake Hero. I compared him to the Walking Spoiler Captain Ryuuya. Now, I'd like to raise up another villain by Toei Ltd. Racules does also pull off a stunt similar to Hercule (aka Mr. SATAN in the original dub) from Dragon Ball Z. Later, Racules claims credit for the miracle that happened with Legend King-Ohger.

Tossho Daimos was part of the now-discontinued Super Robot Anime genre by Toei Ltd. I guess Super Sentai became too popular that Super Robot Anime became redundant. I remembered watching Daimos as a teenager. One character was General Sakamori Miwa. Filipino fans of Daimos would know him as General Harris. Miwa was supposedly on the side of good but shows how evil he can get. Yeah, you know the Obvious Judas trope. Miwa was more concerned about HIMSELF than he is about defending Earth. Miwa is a self-serving bigoted idiot who became a third wheel in Daimos. Sure, Kazuya himself was fighting off Baam invasion forces. However, Miwa is a pain in the ass as he hates all Baam and wants to grab power for himself.

I think Racules is pretty much like Miwa in many ways. The first episode already revealed that Racules was perfectly willing to sacrifice people for his own power. Miwa later on sent his army like sacrificial lambs when the Baam Underwater Palace showed up on the surface. Both oppose the default enemy and are supposedly on the side of good. Both are pretty much With Great Power Comes Great Insanity. Hopefully, there will be good Bugnaroks who will help expose the kind of person Racules really is.

There's the Legend King-Ohger which will help defeat the five different giant monsters. As presented earlier, Gira was able to summon God Kabuto because he was actually of the Hastie family. Why are both rival brothers having their own morphing powers and individual zords? The King-Ohgers use God Scorpion and God Hopper to form Legend King-Ohger to defeat the giant monsters everywhere around the globe.

And now for what would start another story...

Next week would be the appearance of the sixth ranger with a spider motif. Speaking of which, Japanese Spiderman would celebrate its 45th anniversary this year. Wait, wut? This reminds me of some issues I had with Power Rangers and later Super Sentai series. Power Rangers Time Force where Eric Myers showed up in episode 12 (too early). We also had this one when Utsu showed up too early in Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. The same goes for Kinji in Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. Heck, I even had issues with Zenkaiger when Zocks showed up too early as well. Though, I could get over Mashin Sentai Kiramager where Takamichi showed up in an earlier episode due to the hiatus caused by the Legacy Virus.

Really Toei? What's the reason behind all the sixth rangers showing up before the late tens?
