There are times Super Sentai COULD fuel one's curiosity on history -- just like any superhero show! Captain America may have fueled curiosity about World War 2, and the X-Men may have triggered research on Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. This week's No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger has a minor history lesson with the Showa Era. It may address those OK Boomer moments, though Kinjiro was born before the Boomer Era. The Boomer Era was in 1946-1964 -- which all fits the Showa Era which started on December 25, 1926, and ended on January 7, 1989.  Toei's Showa era Super Sentai may be considered less appreciated by later generations. None of the Showa Era Super Sentai are getting Shout! Factory DVD releases (for now). Some Power Rangers fans may have witnessed a few shows (with the fansubs). A few years ago, I wrote a question asking how many space-themed Toku by Toei have you watched . Rather than update an old post -- I decided to write this ramble. Take note that some of the shows have been licensed by Discotek such as the contents of the Space Sheriff Trilogy and Megabeast Investigator Juspion . Metal Hero is pretty much canceled but never forgotten -- as evidenced by the memorial shows. Space Sheriff Gavan got dragged into Super Sentai more than once . The space theme was probably in response to the popularity of Star Wars and Star Trek . I felt writing this show because of Dengeki Sentai Changeman -- a series that was military-based but had a space theme hanging on its duration. It was followed by the more space-y Choshinsei Flashman  in 1986. Note: There will be some spoilers ahead, so proceed at your own risk! As always, I'm NOT going ot give episode reviews. Instead, I'll just react to updates when I feel like it. This is where things get interesting. Daizyujin's emergence from the Megazord Graveyard might be a reference to both Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers . IMHO Toei should've brought back the "It's Morphin' Time" tagline for the 50th anniversary -- not let it sink into obscurity in Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters ! It should be interesting that we have a red ranger and his estranged elder brother. Oh, wait, didn't we have that with Geki and Burai in Zyuranger ? We also had that in Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger -- which is Spoiler Territory ! It's revealed that Kuon (Hisimatsu Tono) is Hoero's long-lost older brother. It doesn't become a warm reunion as Hisamitsu is currently using teh alias of Kuon. No. 1 Sentai GoZyuger introduces us to Megumi Osai -- another Universe Warrior. It's explained that the Universe Warriors partake in the power of the red rangers. The only true Super Sentai now are the Gozyugers. Yeah, it seems Gozyuger is some kind of finale-esque Super Sentai entry. I had that feeling when I was watching Mirai Sentai Timeranger and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Well, it also happened during Doubotsu Sentai Zyuohger,  which caused that line that still makes me chuckle, "The History of Super Sentai! It's over!" It was also because Shuriken Sentai Ninninger isn't all that good.  It's really easy to notice some references every now and then. The name Tega Sword sounds like MEGAZORD....

  Strange but true. I fell in love with older music when I heard some old school songs sung in new school entertainment. I remember hearing some old Chinese music while watching newer Chinese shows from either China or Taiwan. The same can be true with Japanese shows. I fell in love with the song that Maya sang in the bar of episode 5. I feel the whole song was filmed but was deleted due to time constraints. Yeah, talk about how deleted scenes are PLAIN INEVITABLE. The song came from the LONG-RUNNING series called G-Men 75. It's a long-running detective series in Japan that ran from May 24, 1975, to April 3, 1982 -- a total of 355 episodes! I'm certainly not too curious to watch it! The song "Omokage" was sung from episodes 1-55 and episodes 175-204. I don't like anything that runs too long.   Feeling old yet? Himitsu Sentai Goranger will turn 50 this Saturday, or reach its GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY . I heard that Goranger and Dengekitai JAKQ were retroactively added several times. Goranger and JAKQ both got into and out of the list of Super Sentai . Goranger's status was pretty much murky. I got most of my information from the Power Rangers Wiki -- which is subject to fan error every now and then! Now, it's time to look into the history of Goranger as to how it may have significantly shaken the list. Its shaky status in the 1980s I remember a strange 1980s song "Super Sentai Banbaraban" which mixed the medley of some classic Ishinomori shows with Super Sentai series from Goranger up to Dai Sentai Goggle V. Other shows added where the opening songs of  Android Kikaider , Daitetsujin 17 (which only lasted 35 episodes), and Ucchu Keiji Gavan . Feeling old yet?
