What I Believe Were Considered By Some Fans As Bad Moves in Super Sentai History Up to Present
Here are some of the moves in Super Sentai that I believe were considered by some as bad moves. They are:
Currently, Super Sentai doesn't have that much action as it used to.
Goseiger's constantly changing of enemy factions. It would have been more interesting if they were at war with each other instead.
Having comical special effects.
Kaoru Shiba's adoption of Shiba Takeru. Read more here.
Shurikenger's appearance was where he has no real identity of his own. True his character brought back many Sentai seniors but well, that was a downside for an awesome series like Hurricanger in my own point of view.
Burai's death in Zyuranger. Some fans consider it a bad move. Why? Burai was so popular to fans. This incident may be the number one reason Zyuranger gets underrated by MMPR fans, more than just face value preferences. Tommy lived on, Burai didn't. This was pretty sad.
The death of Naoto Takizawa/Time Fire at the hands of a zenitto. It was a pretty lame death IMO. They should have given him a more heroic death than just being killed so easily.
Gai Yuuki's hanging fate in the final episode of Jetman. This took place after the final battle. The fact that he didn't bleed may be proof of him being still alive and his fate left to fandom. Eventually in Gokaiger 28, his fate was ultimately revealed. Sad. Well at least he got to kick a bad guy's butt before he died and he did a noble thing making his death not in vain.
Kou as a child ranger. I think this is just too much. Really. I thought he was pretty interesting and I didn't bash Justin either. This can only come from Power Rangers-Super Sentai fans I think. Just stop bashing Kou! He is NOT Justin disgracing Tommy!
Ohranger had a problem of being inconsistent of dark and light themes in the show which was viewed as a problem by some fans. However I think the series is fine despite that error.
Go-onger was considered by some to be one of the worst moves. I think not. Because of it being highly comedic, some Power Rangers fans bashed it.
Although Shinkenger was an awesome series but the fact that the Gedoushu retreated every time they ran out of water was viewed by some as absurd. Why? Most villains in the past retreated when things fell out of favor.

Fiveman had the annoying hand puppets that were thankfully gotten rid off. However villain decay was an issue too.

Shinkenger had a lot of action in it, and I felt was pretty intense.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Shurikenger's lack of identity was a bad thing at all. It was somewhat revealed near the end, and he was sworn to give up his identity and his normal life to become Shurikenger. Actually, I think it was a great move, better than Power Rangers SPD's decision to turn the Omega Ranger into a ball of light.
More action in Sentai would be nice. Last time we had good action was Gekiranger. Shinkenger started out with good fight scenes, but it quickly lost steam unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the changing of enemy factions... but I do mind if the changing is horribly written. And Goseiger happens to be an example of that.
Nothing wrong with comical special effects. God, fans need to learn about a little something called: "Laughing" =P Now if it was overused, I would agree.
Kaoru adopting Takeru... well, these are probably the same fans who thought Kaoru was a jerk instead of Tanba. =P
Shurikenger.... HUH??????? How in the world would that be a downside to Hurricaneger? His concept was lots of fun!
I've never heard anyone say Burai's death was a bad move. In fact, I hear lots of praises for his death.
Hehehe. No surprise that fans are still butthurt over Naoto and Gai's deaths. =P
Yes, I agree, Kou needs more love from non-Japanese fans. He was a great character, yet fans spend way too much time thinking he has the same personality as Justin, due to age similarities. -__- Heck, Sae (GaoWhite) and Kaoru Shiba technically are the same age, yet they both have very different personalities!
Ohranger wasn't THAT inconsistent in terms of dark and light themes, like many fans keep over exaggerating it to be. Cause if you look at it, Ohranger is quite similar to the 80s Sentai in terms of dark and light themes.
At the moment, I agree that Go-onger was a bad move. =P
I totally agree with that last one. That's what I loved about certain seasons like Flashman. THe battles would always get intense, and either the heroes or the villains would retreat when they needed to. It at least showed that they truly were trying to kill each other, while trying to survive.

On Burai's death, that may hay have been a bad idea because fans loved him at the time, but it was well written. Plots centered around Burai in Zyuranger, including his death, were the best ones in that series. For me a worst move during Zyuranger were all the plots constantly centered around children. I would have much rather see the writers try to focus more on character development instead.
ReplyDeletei dont mind if there are less fights, for me i want more drama then action one of the reasons why i like kamen rider better
ReplyDeleteActually, yeah instead of more action, I think better choreography would be more accurate. I think there's enough fight scenes in Sentai. But I can't say that the last few seasons have had all that good choreography.
ReplyDeleteNow, if someone wants more fight scenes, then they should watch something like Goggle-V. I love Goggle-V due to how fast-paced it is, but it doesn't have the unique stories that it's successors tell. Which is why I feel perfectly fine with the current amount of fight scenes we get.
As for more drama... I don't really care. As long as the characters and stories are awesome, I'll be happy. Drama is nice. As long as it doesn't go crazy like Faiz did. LOL xD
hey faiz was still a great series and i think it did great with the plot it had, the characters were great and the only thing that wasnt done right really imo was the ending
ReplyDeleteKean. I liked Faiz too. In fact, I loved it a lot. But the amount of drama it had is imo something that should only be done every once in a while. Or else, it might get tiring. xD
ReplyDeletei totaly agree killing off burai was a mistake but it opened doors to killing off 6th sentai warriors thoe
ReplyDeleteIf Burai lived, I would've liked Zyuranger less than I already do. I know fans love him a lot. But I think it was better that the writers ignored the fans and stuck true to the story that was planned.
ReplyDeleteIt's like Burai said, there was no way he could be saved. And if he lived, he wouldn't have returned in spirit to help out in the finale.
Killing off Burai was no mistake. It was a success, regardless of what fans wanted from him. But that's what makes his death all the more intense. Seriously, fans would probably give Zyuranger less credit if he lived. I can assure that.
IMO, Goseiger's constant changing of enemies isn't bad. Actually, it's good because it keeps things fresh. What I don't like is how they keep bring Burederan back over and over. Let him die already.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Super Sentai not having as much action as they used to. When Go-onger came, that was the end of the hardcore action scenes.
Speaking of Go-onger, I am fan of both Sentai and PR (I know how to separate the two so I equally give them the love they deserve) and Go-onger was just god awful and it's not me saying it as a PR fan but as a Sentai fan. Go-onger tried too hard to be funny with their corny monsters and their talking cars and it just wasn't cool... at all. I could continue to destroy Go-onger but that'll take too long. The point is after Gekiranger, the high powered action choreography ended.
Ohranger went from being serious to light because of what was going on in Japan at the time. The subway was gased, putting Japan in a panic and because the season was very dark, it scared the kids so they had no choice but to make it lighter but it still didn't help. Personally, I think Ohranger was a great season; it just premiered at the wrong time.
At last, I'd have to mention that it makes since that the monsters had to retreat because they were dehydrated. They do come from the Sanzu river... Now, IMO, Shinkenger was not all that great but it was a huge step up from Go-onger. Personally, all the sentai out now isn't all that great. To me, Sentai is going through a dry spell and they are just trying to sell toys, neglecting the fans that want to see fantastic choreography and great storylines. This is gonna sound bad but I've been anticipating the arrival of the new super sentai team months ago. Hopefully, Goseiger's finale is much better because right now, the suits are some of the best designs I've seen in a while but one of the worst seasons I've watched since Go-onger.
Anyway, kindly refrain from using "God" in speaking okay or I'll delete them automatically.
ReplyDeletegod-awful is slang for saying something is terrible and had no reference to "God" what-so-ever (the "g" in god was not capitalized) but okay.
