Tribute to Koichi Sakamoto

I just thought that it's time for Super Sentai fans, Power Rangers fans and Kamen Rider fans to give thanks to this amazing man, Koichi Sakamoto.  He was also the founder of the "Alpha Stunt Productions" and he has been involved with all three series- Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and Power Rangers.  Also he was the stuntman for Blue Mask as well.  Now for his credits as an action director after he moved to the U.S. in 1989.  I'd like to share my thoughts considering I've heard that he will direct Kyoryuger. If anybody and I mean anybody can disprove that, kindly send me a comment with a link. =)


So he began to work in the adaptation department first for VR Troopers as the second unit director for VR Troopers, a show sadly in my old shames list after seeing Metalder and Spielban.  He also worked with MMPR season three, sadly the season that MMPR was at its worst.


He did become the producer of Power Rangers Time Force.  Not surprising considering that Time Force in itself is a decent series.  So I wonder what he was thinking of staying in America for that time instead of helping Super Sentai scenes.


He also worked with Power Rangers Ninja Storm as the co-executive producer as well as most of Disney.  Sadly this is what happened according to Mr. Smith: Bruce Kalish claimed that during his reign, all the production decisions (including copy & pasting Sentai plots) were made by Sakamoto. However, this seems implausible and more like an excuse for Kalish to avoid the blame for the low quality that Power Rangers suffered during his tenure.  I would agree it's implausible because let's just say Kalish's writing was just plain terrible and most of his characters were poorly done.  I mean Sakamoto did well with Timeranger.

A surprise in-between...


I just find it surprising that Mr. Smith also pointed out that openings to Magiranger and Gekiranger were done in New Zealand, the place where Power Rangers filming was done.


In between, he worked with Kamen Rider W as stunt coordinator and one of the main directors.


For the first 1/3 of Gokaiger he was the action director evident by the wire-fu trademark that he has.


In between Fourze and Gokaiger, he was also involved with Power Rangers Samurai, which imo was really another bad show due to bad writing.
