My Reaction To The Latest Update To Patoranger VS. Lupinranger

Here's the latest updates from the Tokusatsu News Network on the plot:

The motif this time is two-fold, with the Lupinranger being “kaito” or “phantom thief” while the Patorangers are police officers. This is the first time in Super Sentai history two teams are active at the same time. Sometimes clashing, sometimes working together, the two teams will have their own agenda. The Lupinranger fight to regain an important person lost in the past while the Patoranger, who are part of the International Special Police, fight for justice and an ideal future. The story is centered around the Lupin Collection, a collection of items left behind by Arsene Lupin. It is said the items can enable the prosperity of the human race or its total destruction. A three-way struggle against the enemy Gangler now begins.

Each Sentai has a red, serving as leader. LupinRed, a stylish man who hides under the guise of an ordinary person, leads LupinBlue and LupinYellow. Patoren#1, who leads the green Patoren#2 and the pink Patoren#3, is a serious police officer aiming for a crime rate of zero.

While the Kamen Rider series has theme of heroes often clashing in battle, Sentai has generally been “Rangers of Justice” vs “Organizations of Evil”. This while be the first time in the over 40 years of the Super Sentai series that these structures are challenged. A drama for the attention of tokusatsu fans has begun.

Junko Komura, who previously wrote Kamen Rider Wizard and Dobutsu Sentai Zyuohger, will be head script writer. Takaaki Utsunomiya, head producer of Kamen Rider Wizard, Ressha Sentai ToQger, and Zyuohger, returns as producer.

Kaito Sentai Lupinranger vs Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger begins February 11th at 9:30 AM on TV Asahi.

Here's my reaction to the latest update. It's no surprise that there's items left behind by Arsene Lupin which may hint Lupin Red could be the descendant of the same person. Lupin Red is revealed to be a stylish man. Who does that remind you of? His supposed ancestor Arsene Lupin. If you've watched both the French cartoon Night Hood or the sitcom Anime Lupin III you may understand Lupin's being a stylish man who can hide under the guise of an ordinary person.

As for Patoren#1, I think he might end up as the show's version of Detective Zenigata. He's part of the International Special Police. Since the two teams would sometimes clash and sometimes work together then that reminds me of how Lupin III was. Both Lupin III and Zenigata clash but there are times they have to work together against a common enemy. You could think about Gangler as the common enemy. Maybe Patoren#1 is a descendant of Detective Zenigata.

It's time to think of how things will go. This looks like Junko Komura may have been on a break and trying to figure out how to improve her writing. As for the producer Takaaki Utsunomiya he was responsible for some of my favorites (Shinkenger, Gokaiger), ToQGer had an award on Railroad Day but Kamen Rider Wizard was a weaker season IMO. I'm wondering what Utsunomiya ate that made him create something so unusual and brilliant? Hopefully, it won't crash itself and Komura has learned better ideas to make herself work better.

I can't wait to see how these two teams will clash. I hope this will be a comedy Super Sentai series.

  1. Seeing what Junko Komura wrote before, made me underestimated how the series would be end...
