Don Armage As A Fanservice Villain

After The Rise of Skywalker premiered and Forbes gave it a rather bad review - I thought I'd probably do a throwback post. Kyuranger was obviously a Super Sentai series with some popular Hollywood references like Star Wars (which has to be the most obvious) and Spaceballs. Then you also have the classic old school novel series Lucky Star. Lucky Star was the hero of Isaac Asimov'snovels and somehow some highly ambitious old school literature don't get adapted into the live screen until way later. Right now, I just think of Don Armage as a character who has multiple references.

The most obvious reference has to be Emperor Palpatine. A hooded character who talks through holograms? Check! Then you may notice that the character also is hooded like the very first Super Sentai Big Bad namely the Black Cross Fuehrer from Goranger. It's no surprise that the Crux System Minister is a repainted Black Cross Fuehrer. Not to mention - Don Armage has turned people over to the dark side like Scorpio (Stinger's brother) and he also controls Lucky's father Aslan as one of his officers. Heck, I can't help but think of Return of the Jedi in the Kyuranger Christmas special.

One of his many forms (which turned out to be his Doombots) resembles that of the Yuuzhan Vong in Star Wars Legends' canon. If I'm not wrong some versions of Braniac from DC Comics feature the villain to have an exposed brain. He does look like a member of the Yuuzhan Vong with an exposed brain. I may be no fan of Power Rangers but I'm still tempted to think of Lord Zedd too since I once casually liked the franchise. Though I'd rather view him as a Palpatine x Yuuzhan Vong hybrid than a Braniac-inspired or Lord Zedd-inspired character. I think Lord Zedd's design was somewhat followed by one of Braniac's more scary-looking incarnations.

If anything, he was probably one of the reasons why I enjoyed Kyuranger. He had to be one of those villains that would be very hard to beat. He always had a back-up plan that is until his scheduled defeat was mandated by Toei's schedule.
