My Reaction To The Latest Post-Christmas Kiramager Leaks
It's time for me to make short reactions again now, isn't it? After I decided to read through Ukiyaseed (my alternative to JEFusion) - I decided to get through these details and I'll just respond once more with my thoughts:
Toei has revealed more details about the upcoming Super Sentai Series, Mashin Sentai Kiramager, revealing more plot details as well as the show's staff.
For starters, it is confirmed that Mashin Sentai Kiramager will be the first Super Sentai Series to make its debut first in a movie before the TV series proper. The film titled "Mashin Sentai Kiramager: Episode ZERO", the film is part of the Super Sentai Movie PARTY, a double-billing of two Super Sentai movies, and will air alongside Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger vs. Lupinranger vs. Patranger on February 8, 2020.
In the film, a princess from the land of jewelry and Kiramai Stones comes to Earth in search of people with a "shining spirit" called Kiramental, a source of outstanding charm and talent to transform them into heroes, the Kiramagers to fight the evil Yodon Army.
Speaking of Kiramai Stones, it is confirmed that these Stones will resonate with the warrior's will and transform into giant vehicles called Mashin! These vehicles have a will on their own, and their relationship with their partner Kiramager is a key component in the series. These Mashin are: Fire Engine (Red), Jet (Blue), Excavator (Yellow), Race Car (Green), and Helicopter (Pink).
Finally, the series will be produced by Hideaki Tsukada (Kamen Rider Fourze) and is written by Naruhisa Arakawa (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger). Both producer and writer once worked together on Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger and Special Police Dekaranger. Joining the duo is Kamen Rider director Kyohei Yamaguchi (Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Kamen Rider Build). Mashin Sentai Kiramager is set to premiere on March 8, 2020, replacing Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger in its current 9:30am timeslot.
My PERSONAL REACTION on the latest updates
Right now, I'm really getting some positive-negative emotions like I always do. I remembered setting a low bar on Super Sentai since the 2000s and am still now. It's probably either my age or there are just some new school stuff I'm after. It's really something when I consider Super Sentai something less and less "beloved" to me.
There's going to be an episode zero? Personally, who can remember Turboranger actually having that episode 'zero' which was a clip show? Yet what's revealed is that there will be a movie. The plot will involve a princess from the land of jewelry. Wait, wut? Jewelry? A princess? Denziman had a side character known as the Denzi Princess. Goggle V had the concept of jewels that powered up the rangers. Who would have thought ideas from the late 70s to early 80s would be brought back for modern Super Sentai? Kiramental power might bring back the imagination concept from ToQGer.
Another side of the story has it that the Kiramai Stones will resonate with the warriors will. There's also the vehicles that will have a will of their own. Wait, didn't we get that in Go-Onger with the Go-On Engines? The vehicles are revealed to be a fire engine, jet (which explains the blue ranger's Dekaranger-like helmet), excavator (this yellow ranger may be the dumb muscle), race car, and helicopter (wait, Maskman did have Pink Mask with a helicopter). Fortunately, it's not a full automobile theme as I feared (such as Carranger). Instead, we're getting diverse vehicles but I'm still setting a low bar to how these sentient vehicles will work.
I would also think about Naruhisa Arakawa as the writer. Excited? Well, I'd suggest not to be that excited and set a low bar. One can consider the burnouts that happened. Yasuko Kobayashi did burn out during ToQGer, Toshiki Inoue burned out during Kamen Rider Kiva, Junki Takegami burned out during Go-Onger, and Hirohisa Soda burned out during Fiveman. Meanwhile, I think Arakawa handling this imagination-themed show had me think why wasn't he the one assigned with ToQGer? Granted, Arakawa was the one assigned with Akibaranger so I think it's fitting that he should be the show's writer. Now, it's time to consider the producer. So far, he produced most of my favorite shows namely Dekaranger, Gekiranger, Kamen Rider W, and Kamen Rider Fourze. Magiranger is the only one in that list that I still dislike until now. You can consider how he's done a good job with most of them. For me, I'd probably still expect something good out of him becoming the producer.
Right now, I do want to think this over. Super Sentai is now a March thing? I dunno if Toei can really fix that or what?
Just my thoughts right now!
