Ryusoulger 39: The Druidons That Stole Christmas

Well, it's time for a Christmas episode review. But this time, I'm not too passionate about it in contrast to Kyuranger's Christmas episode review. For me, this is kind of what I'd call just your typical passing by episode. So, I would actually do a bit of a review. Oh yeah, Koichi Sakamoto directed this episode and looks like Michael Bay didn't show up this time. Okay, it's time to go on a review.

Is this really seriously one half-brained scheme or what? Wizeru wants to get rid of Christmas like the Grinch - not realizing that it's not in the decors or that it can't be bought from a store. They kidnap people dressed up as Santa Clauses. One of them is a magician which is sourced as the Menasaur's host.

There's some shipteasing between Bamba and an orphanage caretaker named Akari. Personally, the teases were nothing much but I kind of want to ship them. But like most one-shot love interests - aren't they usually destined to be never mentioned again? I wish Super Sentai could fix that and somehow they never did. =P

The plan is to replace Christmas stuff with new year stuff. Are the Druidons just trying to speed time itself or what? The Christmas cake is gone. Santa Claus mascots are gone. It's Wizeru playing the Grinch. Too bad though they couldn't deliver the message from the story The Grinch Who "Stole" Christmas because they could have still celebrated Christmas even with the ornaments changed. It would've pissed off the Menasaurs better if everyone still celebrated Christmas even without the decorations.

A plan to destroy a half-brained plan? Well, why not dress up as Santa Claus? Is it me or is the IQ level or common sense level of Super Sentai grunts THAT LOW? One, Asuna is obviously Asuna even in that Santa outfit. Two, that's obviously Tyramigo. I just want to say newbie actress Ichika Osaki is showing off her moves before morphing in the warehouse. Maybe, it's Ichika's message to fanboys who want her that you just can't have her easily!

Bamba does have a great moment. Akari takes the children to another venue where the Druidons plan to do a Grinch movie. Bamba dresses up as Santa Claus then shows some out-of-suit action. Okay, this is where both Sakamato (and also Bay) deserve a beating. They do defeat the Magician Menasaur but it's INSIDE THE MALL. Logic? Well, the monster does explode and where's the damage? Suspend disbelief time! There's an explosion so where's the damage? I guess that's the logic Sakamoto and Bay have.
The final battle with Gachileus is well... boring for me. Is it me or is Ryusoulger's later mecha battles just uninspired? A far fetch from all the cool CGI mecha battles from Kyuranger to Lupinranger, right? Right now, I wonder how do people fix damages after EVERY GIANT BATTLE huh?

The Christmas party at the orphanage resumes. There's Oto who's chronologically 100+ years old yet she's still a child by Ryusoul standards. She joins in with the others. I do still feel that whole Oto having a crush on Melt freaky. At least Melt knows not to provoke the FBI into arresting him, right? Bamba is somehow still in denial he has feelings for Akari. I don't blame him considering that he's centuries older than she is! But overall - this is just a typical Christmas episode and not much to be noteworthy about huh?

Well, see you all in two weeks. This reminds me that this looks like Dai Satan's costume in Super Sentai Strongest Battle was repainted for this series!

  1. So, this is the last Sentai Episode not only of 2019, but of 2010's as a whole. Of course, the 2010's decade began with Samurai Sentai Shinkenger Act 44 "The 18th Head Of The Shiba House" (January 3, 2010 Sunday). Actually, the 2010's Sentai had began with the Goseigers, the Guardian Angels of the Gosei World and it will be ended with the 4th Dinosaur Sentai, the Dinoknight/Knightosaur Squadron Ryusoulger/Dinosoul Rangers/Saur Soul Rangers. Let's see if the next decade, the 2020's, will be better than the previous decades. Again, Merry Christmas and a Happy 2020 to all! Justice for Super Sentai, the victims of injustice in the Super Sentai Strongest Battle!
