More Thoughts On Donbrothers' Kaito Goshikida As A Different Kaito From Zenkaiger

This week's Avatar Sentai Donbrothers episode tries to bring Donbrothers Kaito Goshikida to the spotlight in a way. Sure, Donbrothers Kaito has been more or less just an ally. As what may be established, Donbrothers Kaito isn't Zenkaiger Kaito. The show's flow of events seem to suggest that this is another Kaito. Others think that Donbrothers Kaito may be the God of Zenkaiger Universe in the form of Kaito. For one, I think Donbrothers Kaito being the God of Zenkaiger Universe is a possibility.

We have a new robot called the Don Killer. It was meant to be launched IF the Donbrothers don't accomplish their mission. The episode is pretty weird actually. Yet, it does reveal why Donbrothers Kaito isn't the same as Zenkaiger Kaito. It's pretty much different from how Kotaro Minami became Kamen Rider BLACK RX or how Ryoma Kagawa became Knight Fire in Solbrain. Instead, it's seemingly planned that Donbrothers Kaito should be a very different Kaito from Zenkaiger Kaito.

Donbrothers did have that weird clip show. It was weird how a plot from Time Force (Nadira watching Saban's failed Mashed Rider) was somehow referenced. Except it was that they were watching Kamen Rider Revice's finale at the beginning. Later, Donbrothers Kaito reveals his adventures with the Zenkaigers. Oh yeah, it's known how I didn't enjoy the show that much. I felt Super Sentai's 45th anniversary was a downer. Sure, I did enjoy Kikou Sentai Zenkaiger's new unorthodox concept. I still feel that the implementation was the lacking part. Now, Toei Ltd. should take notes and try to make the concept better.

One thing I noticed is how I tend to do a poor job analyzing characterization. That's why my deleted Old Shame was so full of Out-Of-Character moments. The behavior of Donbrothers Kaito greatly differs from Zenkaiger Kaito. Zenkaiger Kaito is more outgoing and lively. Donbrothers Kaito is more mysterious. Also, the candy shop from Zenkaiger isn't even referenced at all. I guess it's a relief because my issue with Power Rangers and the Showa-era Kamen Rider entries are summarized as TOO MANY THROWBACKS.

Having two diferent Kaitos reminds me of one thing from the unofficial sequel of Saban's Mashed RiderKamen Rider Decade...

After the super cool crossover with Samurai Sentai Shinkenger - it seems that Decade further cemented itself as a pseudo-sequel to Mashed Rider. The Shinkenger arc ended with the heroes traveling to the world of Kamen Rider BLACK RX. BLACK RX was considered a failure during its time. It's only vindicated by history because Mashed Rider was way worse. On its own, BLACK RX is nothing more than a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoy BLACK RX but it's not as good as Kamen Rider BLACK. Then Decade did what I felt was well-received.

We have two Kotaros. The first Kotaro Minami (and I don't want to call him Robert Akizuki anymore even if the dub name inspired my obvious nom de plume) became BLACK RX. However, we meet another Kotaro who never became BLACK RX. Rewatching both adventures of Kotaro - some even said that RX Kotaro had a much different personality from BLACK Kotaro. Here, I'll refer to the two Decade Kotaros as Kotaro BLACK and Kotaro BLACK RX. We have Kotaro BLACK showing up in the second half.

The concept was later adapted. Originally, Kotaro was BLACK RX and no different person from BLACK. Yet, I guess not too many like BLACK RX so Decade created another BLACK separate from BLACK RX. The non-canon crossover movies even tend to create two Kotaros. The Kamen Rider Grand Prix movie did present two Kotaros in two different scenes. Super Hero Taisen and many more always presented two Kotaros.

I guess this is where the inspiration goes. It's pretty much a concept in comics. Just think that Toei Ltd. once had a working relationship with Marvel. Just think that Power Rangers could've been a Marvel show if the late Stan Lee. Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan (and Asao Kobayashi's misconduct might be part of some Toei Curse if ever) was supposed to be it. Later, Haim Saban did get the contract. Saban even had a contract with Marvel Comics to produce X-Men: The Animated Series a year before Mighty Morphin' aired. Later, Disney bought Marvel and and the rights to Power Rangers. Saban did buy back the franchise then sold it over to Hasbro. Toei Ltd. also had a working relationship with Hasbro via their animation studio. Wow, talk about a weird history lesson!

I guess with that working relationship - it's no surprise we've got Donbrothers Kaito. Somehow, I'm glad Super Sentai hasn't been making too many throwbacks. Hopefully, Kibi Points wouldn't be linked to some singular Morphin' Grid which can only work during anniversaries. There's still the VS. Crossovers which are all what-if scenarios. I guess Donbrothers' Kaito may be completely self-contained from the actual Zenkaiger continuity so to say.
