Five Reasons Why I Prefer Abaranger Over Kyoryuger

 

Years ago, I wrote why I prefer Abaranger over Dino Thunder. I also wrote why I prefer GoGoFive over Fiveman. Not all Super Sentai series are created equal either and neither is it equal with all franchises Toei offered. I may have some positive thoughts on Kyoryuger but it doesn't change my mind that Abaranger has been the better show overall. I don't care if the show is old or new. What I care about is whether the show is highly innovative and delivers results. 

The better main cast of heroes

I really must say that one of Kyoryuger's weaknesses is the characterization. I could care less about negative (or positive) opinions on Kyoryuger. Watching Abaranger, I find the cast a lot more likable than what Kyoryuger could go. I love to point out how Ryoga has been better than Connor. Well, Ryoga is also BETTER THAN DAIGO as well. I also think Yukito is one cool anti-hero (though I'm a fan of Ian Yorkland) and Ranru herself is more than just eye candy. There are times I feel Amy herself is just there to be a cutey girl. Ranru is pretty much more than a chick - her personality outshines her beauty! 

The show has better humor

Sure, I do write cringeworthy fanfics every now and then. However, it doesn't mean I can't learn from the ups and downs of writers. I think Riku Sanjo himself, having written all the episodes, may have no idea on what he wanted to do. Abaranger has had better humor with the characters. A lack of hyperactive characters balanced out the humor overall.

Sure, one can think about Emiri who became a ranger wannabe. Maybe, there's Yatsudenwani who can either be funny for some (like me) or annoying to some. I think the show's humor has been more balanced. I think Kyoryuger suffers from excessive humor due to how hyper the rangers can get. 

A better set of dino-themed zords

I guess one of the reasons why I like newer Super Sentai less is due to the not-so badass mecha designs. I still laugh at the Clusterf*ck Ultrazord innovation yet it sells huh? I would really say that Abaranger gave better, more intimidating dinosaur mecha designs. The Bakuryus pretty much knew what to do with dinosaur multi-gattai. Kyoryuger seems to make the designs like for Barney and Friends upgraded. The same went with Ryusoulger. Meanwhile, I still feel the Guardian Beasts in Zyuranger were pretty much the step-up needed and are still among the coolest mecha ever. 

The Evorians have been better written

Okay, I'll admit I'm BIASED here but I think the Evorians are better than the Deboss Army. I thin that the Evorian God himself (Wicked Life Form Dezumozoryla) has been more threatening when he speaks. The villains in Kyoryuger are mostly just suits which can be a minus. It's refreshing to see Jannu and her daughter Lijwel (who are actually Asuka's family) as human villains. 

Kyoryuger's villains tend to be as hyper as the heroes themselves. The Evorian God is pretty much a threatening presence. Sure, Mikoto did manage to silence him for a while. It doesn't change the fact that the Evorian God himself has been one of the most evil Super Sentai villains ever. The Evorians tend to be For the Evulz in many of the things they do. I feel I can't really figure out how to time villain stupidity as well as the professional writers. I'm bound to screw up since I'm not a professional writer!

Mikoto was truly a worthy show-stealer!

If there's any villain I like in the show better than the main villain - it's MIKOTO. Sure, it was discovered that a portion of the Evorian God corrupted him. I feel it was just some bailout because of some alleged backlash. This guy shows up and starts to play the Vile Villain Saccharine Show trope. Sure, Abaranger is a Lighter and Softer show but this guy is really a brilliant addition.

Sure, I dislike the late redemption this guy had. I think Mikoto should've stayed evil. However, a lot of stuff this guy did made him cooler than most of the Evorians. He did some highly bloated ridiculously evil games for his own amusement. The episode where he planned to crash Earth to Jupiter had to be just plain crazy. I just love every bit of hiw crazy he was until executive meddling forced his redemption. XP

Sure, I don't like Power Rangers (as a whole) but some Super Sentai series aren't my type. That's why I felt like writing this entry one way or another. I feel some older Super Sentai series aren't only better than the Power Rangers counterparts but also later Super Sentai series. Again, it's mostly preferential so chill!
