Abaranger VS. Hurricanger: An Interesting Non-Canon Crossover While Dekaranger Aired
For some reason, Super Sentai makes some non-canon crossover movies (and I wonder if some Super Sentai movies are even non-canon). It's pretty much like what Dragon Ball does by making a series of What If films. Sure, I usually tend to skip Super Sentai VS. Films these days due to them being non-canon. However, some entries were still enjoyable as a reunion film. The trend started with Choriki Sentai Ohranger vs. Ninja Sentai Kakuranger and became a yearly trend. The films were more like What If Scenarios. Ohranger vs. Kakuranger was already too obvious that it couldn't happen. The same goes with Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger vs. Ninpou Sentai Hurricanger.
The film seems to fit into that imaginary Super Sentai timeline. Wendinu and Furaibijo apparently survived and met Dino Earth's legendary evil, Evil Ninja Iga. Iga was a member of the Space Ninja Group Jakanja. Okay, it does feel cool and he's almost way cooler than the rest. Iga fought with the Ryujins of Dino Earth. Iga's set is freed by both Wendinu and Furaibiju by breaking the seal. Did Toei decide to recycle the plot of the Dragon Ball Z film Bojack Unbound in a way?
However, the Abaranger side of things will tell you that there are multiple continuity errors. One may notice Asuka and Jeanne. Asuka is absent during episodes 32-40 due to retaking the Armor of Darkness from Jeanne. Jeanne also appears to be acting evil but only returns to the Evoliens in episode 40 to keep an eye on her possessed daughter. MaxRyuOh appears in the film but it's in episode 37 when it first shows up. That's before Asuka retakes the Armor of Darkness. Also, Lije is still in her child form when it happened. Pretty much, these events were written in such a way to tell audiences that, "It's not canon okay?"
Fortunately, we've got Oboro Hinata to Break the Fourth Wall. Oboro mentions that the mecha configurations happen because it's ONLY A TV SPECIAL. Oboro also did it in Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger vs. Hyajakuu Sentai Gaoranger. Therefore, the continuity is out of place. Power Rangers Dino Thunder had a crossover with Power Rangers Ninja Storm for the introductory episodes. However, Ninja Storm never had a crossover with Power Rangers Wild Force. Later, Doubotsu Sentai Zyuohger also never had a crossover with Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger - which I was somehow fine because I can get bored with the crossover movies.
