Kiramager VS. Ryusoulger: A Fun Crazy Film That Was Thankfully Not Cancelled

Kiramager vs. Ryuosoulger was a film that I felt was impossible when the Legacy Virus hit through last 2020. Who can forget when Kiramager and Kamen Rider Zero-One entered the Legacy Virus hiatus? Now, I decided to check out this movie and if it was worth it. Sure, I admit now that I can't rewatch Ryusoulger any longer (well, Abaranger IMHO will always be the best Dinosaur Sentai). However, I checked this show out for Kiramager which was a fun, improved version of ToQGer IMHO.

The movie had one weird plot of a movie that could destroy the world. Yodonna's latest scheme is to create a movie and she's trapped most of the Ryusoulgers in it. What's amusing to see is that people get caught in this haunted theater house. It seems to be a watered-down version of a haunted theater house in some horror flicks. Granted, Yodonheim IS horror-themed even if the guys don't really have much nightmare fuel - maybe except for Emperor Yodon. Yodonna can be scary though. It does get funny that Canalo is ignoring the obvious when he tries to flirt with Yodonna. Yodonna may be attractive but her get-up can tell you she's an evil woman.

One of the greatest things about the movie is the series of clip shows. I was reminded of that Shinkenger OVA which I really didn't think was all that good. In this case, this is really a creative remake of it with various crazy scenarios. The overload of out-of-suit fight scenes really is well-integrated before the spandex kicks in. Sure, I'm already known to comment at how action scenes in Super Sentai have been watered down to nearly PG-7 levels but it's still good. The cast members are known to do at least some of their own fight scenes unless it gets that dangerous! Though, most of them are still small fry in contrast to Nashiko Momotsuki (Yodonna) who's had some real experience. I mean, isn't it mostly the issue that the Super Sentai main cast tend to be newcomers while the villain cast members are usually experienced? Think of how the late Masashi Ishibashi or how Yutaka Hirose has faced off against newcomers a lot!

Though, I was thinking about wasting what could be a perfect opportunity to make fun of Canalo. Sure, I really HATE the subplot of Canalo's being a hopeless romantic. However, I felt that he should've just done more than hit on Yodonna. In fact, I even wanted a beach scene (as part of the movie) where Sayo, Sena, Asuna, and Yodonna get into swimwear (in Dynaman we had a beach episode too) causing Canalo's face to turn red, and he gets a fever from the eye candy, and then Yodonna kicks him at his bird. Canalo gets confused when he sees Sayo and Sena in swimwear which allows him to resist Yodonna (who's obviously the hottest). Then Canalo tries to hit on Sena and Sayo only to be punched REALLY HARD too. That is all before he tries to hit on Mabusheena who's obviously not human.

Overall, I still feel there's some place for Super Sentai in me. Sure, I've really watched a lot of old school Super Sentai now (and new school too) though I haven't seen all of Goranger or JAKQ yet. Goranger is rather very long and it was overextended due to its popularity. JAKQ was rushed all because of its lack of popularity. Right now, I don't feel much hype with Zenkaiger and I'm watching it at very irregular intervals. I still recommend watching this film for some crazy fun especially with the fight scenes.

  1. On April 27, 2021 (two days before the movie release on April 29), on her 23rd Birthday, Yume Shinjou (Sena Hayami/KiramaiGreen) has said on Instagram that the Mashin Sentai Kiramager Vs. Ryusoulger Movie was "the greatest birthday gift that has given to me!" and the rest is history.
Okay, so I watched both the raw and the subtitle versions of the movie (which was released in 43 out of 47 prefectures except Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hyougo Prefectures, where the State of Emergency was implemented due to the increase number of cases of the Legacy Virus) and it was nice to have the Kishiryus being resurrected a year after they were sacrificed to kill Queen Eras of Druidon. The Mashins were so surprised about this miraculous revival. The problem was Seiya Osada (Nada/Gaisoulg) was supposed to return in that movie, but he refused to reprise his role perhaps due to COVID-19 Pandemic and other personal issues. Oh, come on, Nada, aren't you gonna attack the Kiramagers under Yodonheim Army's control in the movie dimensions while possessing your armor against them? And this was one of two movies dedicated to the late Mana Kinjo or Kinjou (Ui Tatsui), who passed away on December 1, 2020 unrelated to COVID-19. The other movie was Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger Special Chapter: The Memory Of The Soulmates. The Kiramager cast had paid their respects to the late Japanese actress despite the fact that they didn't visit or meet her physically while she was alive. This movie was set between Kiramager Episodes 41 (where Juuru, Sena and Sayo are transformed into cat-people) and 42 (where Mizuki Kakihara and the other people were under Yodonheim's control setting off the final battle between light and darkness) and it was a good one for me.
Hope and pray the next Super Sentai Team-up Movie comprising of the Zenkaigers, the Kiramagers and the other Super Sentai Teams from the Showa Era, the Heisei Era and the Reiwa Era will probably be the largest and the biggest mecha and robot fights in the history, trying to beat record of the Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle of 2011. but that's just one of the rumors.
Next up: Your reactions on 10-Gokaiger, or should I say, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger 10 Years After Movie. Will the Zenkaigers be involved here? We'll find out soon.
    R.I.P. Mana Kinjo or Kinjou (February 24, 1996-December 1, 2020)
