Dekaranger Finally Gets A Licensed Release

Super Sentai DVD releases is back on track, right? Well, isn't it something to think that Tokosou Sentai Dekaranger did get its first full fan sub with TV-Nihon. Dekaranger may be the first exposure that some Power Rangers fans from the West had to the Super Sentai franchise. Now, no surprise that Dekaranger finally gets its official DVD release

After covering a good portion of the first Saban era that's Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger up to Hyajakuu Sentai Gaoranger - it's no surprise that the Disney era is getting covered. We had Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger and Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger. Abaranger will get a 20th-anniversary reunion movie. At the same time, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers will celebrate its 30th anniversary.

I think is coming to a full circle. First, more Western fans had a taste of the Japanese deal via the fansubs. Second, we had the initial cast of Dekaranger dub Power Rangers SPD. Strangely, the South Korean dub also calls it Power Rangers SPD which I think can confuse things. Why not call the Korean dub Power Rangers Dekaranger? Third, we're having a DVD release.

Dekaranger seems to get traction even after a decade. First, we had the Dekaranger 10 Years After Movie. 2017 soon featured Dekaranger in an episode in Kyuranger. Eventually, we had a crossover movie with Ucchu Seiji Gavan which feels like it wasn't made for children. The Dekarangers got into the Space Squad films such as Episode Zero: Girls in Trouble which is again, not for children. I think the timing is a little good though. Discotek did license Gavan DVD releases. I think Discotek can focus on releasing Kamen Rider and some Metal Hero series as well.

Pretty much, Dekaranger, on its own, isn't as violent as some of its predecessors. Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive has a lot of scenes that wouldn't make it past TV-Y7-FV. The Rescue Police Trilogy which are Winspector, Solbrain, and Exceedraft have scenes that can't make it past TV-YY-FV. Do I need to mention how Tokosou Robo Janperson is MORE VIOLENT than the Robocop TV Series that came a few months after it ended?

I still have a bit of a backward suggestion after Dekaranger. It's obvious that I really hate Mahou Sentai Magiranger. I'm still thinking of releasing DVDs based on the Hirohisa Soda era. Maybe, we can have Choshinsei Flashman or Hikari Sentai Maskman. Still, here's me giving my kudos to Hasbro for continuing the licensed releases.
