My Thoughts On The Earth/Chikyu Revelation In Episodes 32-33

I guess this topic deserves its own separate post, right? After the 32nd and 33rd episodes of Ohsama Sentai King-Onger - I believe Toe just burst my bubble! My only assumption was that Chikyu is Another Earth. Chikyu is the Japanese word for Earth just as Terra is the Latin name. The revelation that Jeramie gave was that his father made the mural.

What's revealed from episode 32 is this Jurassic Park-style reference. Jeramie discovers that Chikyu and Earth are two different worlds. I almost wanted to bring up movies like the failed (but somewhat Vindicated by History) movie Super Mario Bros. live-action movie last 1993. Maybe, I could think of Kamen Rider BLACK RX where Crisis' home world is a shadow of Earth. It turns out that people from Earth migrated away from Earth 2,000 years ago to a similar planet. I guess that should explain why Chikyu has a very different setting. I just assumed some great cataclysm hit Earth and caused the planet to reform. Instead, as the intro says, Chikyu is some faraway planet!

I was hoping that Jeramie would be wrong. Instead, Toei decided to somehow link the continuity of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger (World of Kyoryuger) to the continuity of King-Ohger for some reason. Sure, the crossover gave us some really cool (but still toned down) unmorphed fight scenes. Kyoryuger has some good choreography but I pretty much find it to be quite messy. Maybe, I can now view Kyoryuger as a watchable mess in the same category as BLACK RX (which I felt that an 11-year hiatus for Kamen Rider was necessary) or B-Fighter Kabuto (which is way better than Big Bad Beetleborgs). I wonder what was Toei thinking doing that plot?

If it was 2,000 years ago then there was this ancient war. Let's just do some basic math. If it's 2023 (10 years after Kyoryuger) and 2000 years ago means it's merely 23 AD when the whole thing happened! It looks like later ancient civilizations found some powerful mystical ship that helped them escape. Where do the Galactainsects fit in all of that? Some humans fled Earth through some mystical spaceship namely the Caucasus Kabuto Castle. The people called it Chikyu and one must wonder if the people of Earth never knew that planet existed. My assumption is that none of them did.

Maybe, that explains why Chikyu has that atypical setting without a Modern Japan. Doufu is located at the western side of the globe - not the eastern side. Gokkan isn't even located where Alaska should be. The center kingdom is Shugoddam. Why is the more European-looking nation of Ishabana in the East? Speaking of Ishabana, I always like to joke about how Jacqueline Scislowski and her real-life pals look like they should be acting as its queen and the citizens instead. I simply assumed that some great catastrophe happened on Earth resulting in the changes. Is Toei trying to do some copout or what?

I was hoping for a breath of fresh air where King-Ohger exists on an Earth similar to that of Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. Instead, it takes place on another Earth-like planet that's obviously not the regular Earth now.

I had my expectations similar to that of Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger's 18th episode. The episode was a preview for the Tokosou Sentai Dekaranger vs. Ucchu Keiji Gavan movie. The episode had a black hole that took the assigned Kyurangers into a parallel Universe. Portals and black holes seem to be the favorite cliche for crossovers between unrelated shows. The Jimmy/Timmy Power Hour movies make two unrelated shows cross each others' continuities. Super Sentai follows some American superhero tropes so it's no surprise that happens. I just assumed Dugdead had opened a portal to another Universe. Instead, it turns out to be a quick way to travel Earth!

It gets too obvious that most Super Sentai series are usually self-contained. Trying to fit them all into one timeline from 1975-2023 will create a very messy story. Trying to fit Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger into all 34 series will create one massive continuity error. It's always been best to treat most Super Sentai series as their own individual entries like how the Super Robot genre by Toei made Hyajakuu Golion separate from the Robot Romance Trilogy as well as Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV

I guess that great temptation to make that timeline comes in!

Meanwhile, I think there's a significant number of people who still want to force the Super Sentai timeline. I bet a lot of them are about to make tidal waves soon. I believe a good amount of them are from the Western Power Rangers fanbase. Most Power Rangers series take place in a timeline unless specified. Power Rangers Dino Charge was supposedly meant to be self-contained like Kyoryuger. Events in Kyoryuger also can't be reconciled with Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger or Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, especially with dinosaur deaths. Kyoryuger had the Zetsumates that caused dinosaurs to pass away. Other Super Sentai entries just don't care about how a previous series killed the dinosaurs. Engine Sentai Go-onger introduced Horonderthal. Gougou Sentai Boukenger's movie gave us Hyde Gene. These can't be put into one continuity unless SPECIFIED!

I guess it's all a cash cow. Sure, King-Ohger hasn't been that heavy with the Ranger History Lessons left and right. We don't have an episode in Kishinryu Sentai Ryusoulger (which is definitely NOT RECOMMENDED IMHO) where the Black Cross Fuehrer is restored. We don't have Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters using past Super Sentai equipment. The only time when direct connections to past series happen would be in Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan (which got cursed by Asao Kobayashi's sexual misconduct years later) or in some shows like Shuriken Sentai Ninninger and Mashin Sentai Kiramager. Other than that, most Super Sentai series act rather independently of each other.

The decision to link King-Ohger to Kyoryuger may have a significant meaning. IMHO, I think Toei's throwing in a big celebration after all. Just think that both Abaranger and Kyoryuger take place on the 10th and 20th anniversary of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and Jurassic Park. It does feel awkward but I do recognize that Mighty Morphin' was indeed Toei's entry point into the American market. Both Toei and Saban realized they needed to greatly modify the story for the American audience since Zyuranger couldn't make it past the censors. I guess Toei's using it as a celebratory season after all.

I'll just let the fans try and create that timeline. I guess they could care less how messy things will really get. I did create that chart before and man was it that messy. I guess some people just do it for enjoyment and not meant to be taken seriously either.
