It's The End Of The Journey For Boonboomger As A TV Show

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger finally hit its finale. Shashiro's fake betrayal was really too predictable. This time, I'd like to review the finale. As always, please DON'T ask for episode reviews anymore. This blog is JUST MY HOBBY. It's time to look into the finale. The finale arc bit more than it could chew. Sure, the Hashiryans took over the Earth. But yeah, you know the center was Japan because Super Sentai has the trope of Tokyo being the Center of the Universe. It would be too expensive if they created scenes of some nations on Earth. For example, it'd be HILARIOUS if Toei decided to ask Hasbro for Power Rangers footage to emphasize Hashyrian taking over the Earth.

The finale arc had its downright Too Good To Be True trap. Of course, Mira isn't willing to marry Wairudo Spindo out of the blue. I still feel the incident was as random as that Mighty Morphin' episode where Lord Zedd once tried to make Kimberly his bride. This scene is just too forced given Wairudo's actions. The whole wedding was a setup to get close to Wairudo and destroy his energy source. What becomes funny is when Mira still fights in THAT WEDDING DRESS. Wairudo tried to brainwash her but that failed. Wairudo goes sour and decides to destroy Mira anyway. Couldn't there be at least some, "If I can't have you then no one can!" moments before that? Probably in some deleted scene that would never make it -- not even in a Director's Cut!

Boondorio gets restored but there's NO Megazord battle for a reason. It was probably because what was needed was to show the power of friendship. Wairudo's practically without friends. Wairudo could've had the help of the Sanseaters. The battle instead goes with showing how pathetic state that Wairudo fell into. It's a pretty anti-climatic battle. Sure, the Boonboomgers do get unmorphed but they manage to defeat him anyway. The heroes refuse to finish off Wairudo so he could face justice. However, Wairudo becomes sand presumably due to the damage he suffered. There are a few times the Big Bad's death doesn't result in a dramatic explosion. Is there some attempt at "maturity"here or what?

I'd hate to admit it but Shirabe's probably my favorite character in the show. Sure, I don't find Shirabe pretty but she's a pretty smart lady. The corruption drama is given a more mature (but definitely not too mature) approach. Director Tokoyari and Naito are sent to jail -- for their crimes! It was interesting to see Tokoyari arrested while confident he could bust out of jail somehow. However, Japan is among the countries with the lowest corruption. Why didn't Tokyoari and Naito think of migrating to the Philippines or any country worse than the Philippines? Maimi was the one who gathered evidence to put the nail in the coffin. It was interesting to see Maimi show she, like Shashiro, were Fake Defectors.

The show gives a cop drama type of ending. A cop drama ends with "A cop's job is never done." Shirabe has bene promoted as the directress of ISA. Shirabe hires the Boonboomgers because there are still Hashyrien remnants that they need to clean off. The plan could work in either non-canon films or an OVA film. Apparently, Boonboomger hasn't been that overshadowed by last year's Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger.

Speaking of remnants, either Boonboomger takes place in the same Universe as King-Ohger or it's going to be another What If Scenario. The plot for the crossover is as follows:

Nicola, who has ascended to the throne as the queen of Planet Trickle, has decided to form an alliance with Planet Chikyu. Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger has been invited to act as witnesses. However, a remnant of the Hashiriyan named Manhole Grumer appears and steals the jewel that's been passed down in the Trickle royal family from Nicola!

Furthermore, Minongan, one of Dagded's five jesters appears and steals the Ohgercalibur ZERO, which was prepared for the alliance ceremony! The Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger rushes to the scene and fights alongside the Boonbomger, but the warriors are separated by Manhole Grumer's mysterious power. Taiya and the others were scattered across the stars, each take action to escape from this dire situation. Soon, a dangerous heartbeat begins to resonate from deep underground. As a powerful evil awakens, will the two great Super Sentai be able to come together again fight together?! The battle for the three planets begins now!!

So a remnant member named Manhole Grumer shows up. However, most Super Sentai crossover films are pretty much like the Dragon Ball Z movies. Several scenarios in those films are What If scenarios such as what if Frieza had an older brother named Cooler, what if there were several more Saiyajins that survived (such as Turles and Broly), and more. It's safe to assume that this film will have some blatant contradictions to canon. Sure, it seemed that Samurai Sentai Shinkenger vs. Engine Sentai Go-Onger was connected to Go-Onger's ending. However, these films would play as What If scenarios more than anything. However, that hasn't stopped some fans from pushing the Super Sentai timeline narrative

It's a good thing I had lowered my expectations. Otherwise, I may have dropped it completely. It's still a fun show in its own right. It's like the diet people need to take because King-Ohger was too much of a festival.
