Random Episode Review: Jetman Episode 7 Shows A Paternal Grandma's Stubborn Love

Sometimes, you'll never know how much they meant to you before they're gone, right? I've been feeling blue. There are times I think of my late paternal grandmother -- even if she's been gone for more than a decade. The actress Chieko Murata died in 1995 at 80 years old. My paternal grandmother managed to live until she was 91 years old. The episode has the lighter side of Toshiki Inoue -- a guy who usually does well with serious stuff but tends to screw up with humor. However, that hasn't stopped me from wishing Inoue was Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters' secondary writer!

The episode has some generation gaps present. Obviously, Grandma Tendo was born before Modern Japan. Ryu Tendo would've been born in Modern Japan. Some values start to change over time. One must wonder where Ryu's parents are. It seems that his parents died ahead of his paternal grandmother. Hence, Grandma Tendo was the one raising him if that's true. It's an aspect that was never explored. Raita's paternal grandmother was a co-parent. Fortunately, Raita never had to deal with marital arrangements.

Ryu's family apparently runs a pickling business. It can be assumed that Ryu's departure for the military broke that line of succession. It's NEVER explained what happened to Ryu's father if he was alive or not. Where's Ryu's father? Why is it that it's the paternal grandmother who wants him to settle down? Ryu's father may just be busy at work if he's ever alive. Meanwhile, it seems Grandma Tendo was enjoying life (if Ryu's parents are alive) and realized her grandson Ryu must marry ASAP. One must wonder why Grandma Tendo never knew of Rie. It's possible Ryu left for Skyforce to find his own path. Maybe, Ryu's parents are less traditional and thought allowing Ryu join the military, would develop him as a person.

The episode gets the brewing Love Polygon going on. Ryu's still unable to get over his fiance Rie Aoi -- someone his paternal grandmother may have or have not known. If ever, Grandma Tendo should've considered that her grandson may not be ready to move on. Grandma Tendo's all too traditional though and fixed Ryu with Emiko. Emiko already had feelings for someone else. Emiko also saw Kaori's feelings for Ryu. The way Inoue foreshadowed Ryu and Kaori can be messy! Apparently, Ryu is SOMEONE that Kaori could relate to. However, I still feel that Gai Yuuki and Kaori should've ended together. Gai x Kaori had better chemistry. Rie should've been rescued but Inoue loves tragedy!

This episode also shows the value of old people's wisdom. Old people have lived through the world with more experience. Grandma Tendo uses a mirror to counter Mirror Jigen's beam. However, Grandma Tendo still gets stubborn and tries to find more potential matches. The episode ends with a comedic note. However, rewatching the episode can still hurt my heart at times too.
