My PERSONAL Review On Ryusoulger VS. Lupinranger VS. Patranger

It's really something when a Super Sentai I like gets paired up with a Super Sentai season (or any show) that I dislike. It's happened before such as my dislike for Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger while I like Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters or when Samurai Sentai Shinkenger got a team-up with two shows I really dislike namely Kamen Rider Decade and Tensou Sentai Goseiger. Well, at least Goseiger got vindicated because Power Rangers Megaforce really shot itself at the foot big time! I also felt relaly awkward when Kamen Rider Drive had a crossover with Shuriken Sentai Ninninger - a show that only got "better" because Power Rangers Ninja Steel was even a bigger mess.  The same can be said for this tongue twister of a special Kishinryu Sentai Ryusoulger vs. Kaito Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patranger. I feel Ryusoulger is really a low-tier Super Sentai (sorry really) compared to Lupinranger vs. Patranger which for me was a very daring direction.

The crossover movie's setting is perhaps at the end of both shows. It did happen during Seiju Sentai Gingaman vs. Denji Sentai Megaranger where the crossover happened when both superhero teams defeated their respective enemies. Quite a far-fetch from most crossovers where there's the ongoing struggle with the present team still fighting the recent threat while the other team returns for a crossover. Apparently, Creon is jobless but I wonder why Wizeru (who actually survived) isn't around? Creon would later join a Gangler remnant who kidnaps the Kishinryus. Fortunately, Junko Komura and Naruhisa Arakawa are the writers and it's nowhere near as big as a glorified mess as Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. I'm actually GLAD that the previous teams Zyuranger, Abaranger, and Kyoryuger weren't brought back at all.

The movie itself sets up a lot of what-if scenarios. Personally, I don't blame the Patrangers for arresting Banba and Towa. I mean, I'd actually do that if I were in their place. Some Super Sentai teams had out-of-suit fight scenes using their individual weapons such as in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger and Shinkenger. Some things are predictable like how Banba handles the situation and when Keiichiro gets into a load of trouble. Also, Kairi is still a fugitive and mentions the incident when the Lupinrangers revealed themselves to save Noel. How Touma still operates the Le Bistror Jure is beyond me and I wonder what Umika is doing now? Meanwhile, there's also that huge misunderstanding when Canaro attempts to woo Tsukasa. Spoilers: You know how Canaro gets that rather irritating running gag, right?

So far, there are some good battle scenes and for a refresher - no giant mecha battle scene. I think it would be good if every once in a while that a crossover doesn't have them. Then again, what's Super Sentai without giant robots ever since Battle Fever J? I still think that it's a GOOD THING that the other three dinosaur Super Sentai teams weren't brought back. Though, I wonder why the Kiramagers didn't make their cameo here? Then again, the Ryusoulgers didn't appear in the previous crossover either. That tradition started with Samurai Sentai Shinkenger vs. Engine Sentai Go-Onger until Douboutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. Instead, this movie was aired alongside Mashin Sentai Kiramager: Episode ZERO.

Overall, it's passable but could've been better. Maybe, it's just because I enjoyed Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger and Lupinranger vs. Patranger way too much, huh? Until now, I'm still stuck with the Kyuranger and Lupato hype. Maybe, I'll just need to take a backseat from Super Sentai (but not Kamen Rider) and enjoy other new school stuff for the moment.

  1. For me, not bringing back the ZyuRangers, AbaRangers, Kyoryugers and Rita from the Super Sentai Strongest Battle is definitely unfortunate. They should've been the one to stop the rivalry between the Ryusoulgers, the LupinRangers and the PatRangers as a sign of respect to the older Dinosaur Super Sentai Teams. Looks like the negotiations between Toei and the 1992, 2003 and 2013 Super Sentai Series Actors and Actresses have ended up in failure, huh? It's a mystery why Keiichirou Asaka/Patren 1gou did return in this movie, although in the Super Sentai Strongest Battle last year, his Serious Team (other members were Kouichirou Endou/MegaBlack, Matsuri Tatsumi/GoPink, Sakura Nishihori, the Deep Adventurer/BoukenPink and Hyde/GoseiBlue) was defeated by Yamato Kazakiri/Zyuoh Eagle of the Oddball Team, which led to his (and other team members') disappearance. With the reappearance of the leader of the PatRangers, do you think the other Super Sentai Teams that were vanished into thin air by Rita-chan (Nana Asakawa) will return or reappear for the 45th Anniversary of the Super Sentai Series next year post-COVID-19 health crisis? I wanna see Rita-chan either as an ally of the Super Sentai or remain as an evil villainess trying to escape from jail. She must be killed by 2022! About the mecha fights, like you said, zero. Not even Daizyujin, Abarenoh, Kyoryuzin and other Dinosaur Super Sentai Mechas did appear in the movie. How frustrating! My grade: 1/10.
