Can Spirit Transfer Explain The Open-Ended Ending Of Dairanger? (MAJOR SPOILERS)

Some time ago, I decided to watch Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Once and Always and I used Robo Rita's situation to explain that Gara of the Gorma could've been. There will be spoilers if you haven't watched Gosei Sentai Dairanger so be very careful. If not, read ahead, or if you don't mind being spoiled. I tend to be a spoiler addict myself. As the Chinese Ghost Month ends today and with all the Chinese influences in Dairanger - it would be a good nostalgic post to write this on. What I probably never wanted to mention was some subtle horror movie references in Dairanger. Killers in hockey masks may remind some of Jason Voorhees. Though, what I've ignored for years was this...

Episode 3 featured what would never be approved by Fox Kids. There was a movie called Child's Play that was released in 1988 - the same year as Chojuu Sentai Liveman. There's a certain level where I could tolerate blood and violence. The Key Jester would steal the souls of people and put them into dolls. Did Dairanger really make a nod to a movie that wasn't meant for children? Again, the whole show's violence would totally scare the living daylights out of Fox Kids. I may not like Power Rangers but I can understand why it was overshadowed for some time. Violence? Check. Language barrier? Check. Cultural differences between Japan and America? Well, also check.

Child's Play featured the villain Charles Lee Ray or Chucky. Chucky performed a dangerous voodoo ritual that transferred his body into that of a DOLL. Chucky was mortally wounded along the way and transferred his body into it. The result was creating that doll into a murderous, homicidal doll. I wonder if episode 3 of Dairanger was a foreshadowing of things to come. Given some official subtitles - it might actually clear things better. I was even thinking that maybe Toei Ltd. gave us a huge puzzle to solve with the events that led to the ending.

Which in turn may give a conclusion to the ending after all!

I think the conversation between Shadam and Gorma XV might provide clues. I checked out other translations. If I'm not wrong, the official translation is, "I took your spirit." instead of "I breathed life into you." This might actually be that Shadam saw the wounded Gorma XV. Shadam would've mastered the art of spirit transfer himself. Sorry if I have to bring some crude humor but Shadam may have the same genocidal mindset as Chucky would. I could imagine that Shadam saw the wounded (and unconscious) Gorma XV and performed a Body Backup Drive on Gorma XV. Gorma XV awoke in a clay body. Shadam kept the secret from Gorma XV

As the war goes on, theoretically, I think Shadam could've pulled what Chucky did. Chucky transferred his soul into a doll to avoid arrest. I could imagine a wounded Shadam escaping from the Dai Tribe. I could imagine Shadam prepared a clay body just in case OR he used the clay body as a last resort. I could imagine Shadam probably prepared a clay dummy to fool the others. However, a dying Shadam realizes that his only hope to survive is to use a clay body. After having transferred the souls of Zydos and Gorma XV into clay bodies - he finds himself in the same predicament. Shadam would do so but ends up forgetting that he was actually made of clay. I can't really insert when Kou and Akomaru would be born but you know Toku logic!

In the case of Gara, I think Clay Gara was born out of lingering resentment. My theory is that the real Gara either purified herself long ago. Another theory of mine is that Clay Gara was created with the real Gara. However, when Kujaku healed Clay Gara's eyes 6,000 years later, it would cause the purified soul of Gara to escape the grudge from 6,000 years ago to become a completely different Gara. So yeah, go figure it out and that's just my theory, a crazy theory. Power Rangers fans are still welcome to use the Robo Rita explanation though since that character wasn't the real deal.

I could imagine that Shadam's nature as a clay puppet was simply due to spirit transfer. Shadam would live in a clay body complete with bodily functions for 6,000 years. In many creation stories, humanity was sculpted from clay. Nuwa and Fuxi made mankind from clay. I guess that's why Shadam and his fellow Gorma were walking as flesh and blood. They only became clay sometime later. The spirit transfer would've allowed Shadam to do so. Except that Shadam ended up forgetting that he was no longer in his real body. 6,000 years is a lot of time and Shadam would've probably forgot that one detail until the end of the series.
