Dance Party With Battle Fever J And Kyoryuger

Image
Here's a bit of a Thursday throwback. As much as I tend to prefer most of the classic Super Sentai over the newer ones  (while ironically choosing most new school Kamen Rider over old school Kamen Rider), it doesn't mean that I would just choose the classic Super Sentai all the time. It's like how I prefer Hurricanger over Kakuranger and Abaranger over Zyuranger. I decided to watch both Kyoryuger and Battle Fever J and I would really talk about some issues that I have with some super old shows. Take note I saw Kyoryuger first before Battle Fever J. Battle Fever J was pretty much the start of the revival of Super Sentai. In fact, it's the first series to get the word "Super" into Super Sentai. Goranger may be the first Super Sentai series but it was only declared the first entry years later. The show itself was what I'd call pretty basic stuff. Sure you have badass mentor Kurama Tetsuzan's use of his katana or some really cool fight scenes but I thou...

Space 8: The Secret Of Xiao Long Bao

Image
Are you hungry? Well this episode made me hungry in some way. We're not talking about the dragon dumplings from the dimsum but Shou Ronpou whose name is a play on Xiao Long Bao. Let's get started shall we? Sidenote, I'm glad that I'm able to do this weekly update on time. There are a total of five Consumarz on Earth and I think they're going to leave Earth soon There's really a lot and I mean a lot of conflict. Spada is a chef and he doesn't want to leave hungry people alone. Shou Ronpou is adamant that orders must be followed. I feel like that there's a lesson to learn here namely following simple guidelines goes a long way . Darth Sidious ahem Don Armage wants the Kyurangers destroyed so he can rule the Universe unchallenged. I love how even the slightest presence he has can terrify his subordinates. He has his two deadliest assassins Ikagen and Madoka get rid of the Kyurangers. Doesn't he have a Death Star or Galaxy Gun to help him?...

When Them Idiot Red Rangers Appear

Image
After watching Kyuranger for the past few weeks (and yes, expect weekly episode updates and I'll probably do some crossover movie reviews) I decided to tackle on a topic I've had been on/off for awhile. So Lucky's the red ranger and he's quite an idiot. But before him, there's been some red rangers who were idiots. I will do a 2017-backwards post similar to my post on Super Sentai seasons with red-centric tendencies  with these red rangers. For better or for worse, here's what I think of those who you may consider as idiot reds.  Note that some of these idiots are actually my favorites from their respective seasons while others just don't click with me. I wrote this because it's April Fool's Day. Takaharu Igasaki/Akaninger While I was pretty much "immune" to idiot red rangers but I think my problems with this guy is how the actor Shunsuke Nishikawa brought him out or how he was developed as a character. But I think my bigger issue i...

A Doctor Runs Into An Alien, An Alien Runs Into A Doctor?

Image
Rather than update my last Kyuranger episode update, I decided to make a "part two" which features the minor guest role of Hojo Emu in Kyuranger and Lucky in Kamen Rider-EX-AID. So what really happened?  The Kyuranger portion features Hojo's appearance as Kamen Rider EX-AID. Raptor plays billiard and a new ball summons EX-AID. Ikadevil gets defeated by EX-AID. EX-AID unmorphs into his human form and introduces himself as Hojo Emu. Lucky introduces himself to Hojo as well.   The guest role of Lucky in EX-AID contradicts what happened to how they met in Kyuranger. Lucky appears and Hojo asks for Lucky's identity. Both of them like as if the events in Kyuranger never happened. So really? Did they develop amnesia or what? Or are we exploring a multiverse in here? Speaking of which I am planning to write a new post which I tentatively want to call the Toei Multiverse Theory after I wrote something about the  Super Sentai timeline . I don't know if I can ...

Kyuranger Space 7: Happy Birthday To You And Bigger Surprises Await

Image
Sorry for the delay of the badly needed weekly post! This week's episode is pretty much summed as "Happy Birthday!" One of the Kyurangers is celebrating his birthday namely Balance. Let's get started shall we? So instead of writing a part two I decided to update this post just today! The Malistrate of the week is Toomey. Is it a pun for the word gloomy? I can't be certain but he's pretty mean. He steals the birthday of everyone and they can't celebrate it. Presents disappear and the same thing happens to Balance. Naga starts to go from being almost emotionless to show a caring side when he discovers how important Balance is as a team member. Sidenote, I wished that Takashi Ukaji made a guest appearance either as a civilian or as Kosei Kougami from Kamen Rider OOO.  It's revealed that last week's assassin duo Ikagen and Madoko have been used to invade and destroy thousands of planets. What's really Don Armage's problem with ot...

Amazing Coincidences Between Yasuko Kobayashi And Judd Lynn?

Image
I thought of a few things that I may have noticed about Judd Lynn and Yasuko Kobayashi all this time and decided to gather possible coincidences between the two writers. It took me some time to think about this one. These two beloved writers from their respective franchises are on burnout and had some things in common aside from their writing styles : 1997 was the year that they both got hugely involved in their respective franchises Kobayashi entered the arena last 1997 with Megaranger where she wrote 13 episodes as a secondary writer. The Megaranger episodes she wrote usually involved major plots which would train her for next year's task as the head writer of Gingaman. I felt her Megaranger episodes were among the best she contributed for Super Sentai. Lynn himself was given a task similar to Toshiki Inoue replacing Tyuyoshi Kida as a head writer. He replaced Douglas Sloan midway in Power Rangers Turbo. This would be where Lynn himself would be tasked to become the head ...

The Amazing Coincidence With Golion, Zyuranger, Lion Voltron And Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers?

Image
Image taken from Henshin Grid ... I felt like writing this editorial due to the launching of the Power Rangers movie and because it's also Zyuranger's 25th anniversary. With that in mind, I also remembered another series called Lion Voltron which was based on Beast King Golion. It's pretty much of a nostalgic trip since I watched both in the 90s but have no intention of rewatching them after seeing both Zyuranger and Golion in my older years. Golion was a part of a long list of Super Robot while Lion Voltron was a first of its kind in the U.S. to start a new trend Golion was already in the long list of Super Robot Anime with all the cliches from Combattler V and Voltes V. Although the concept was pretty innovative with its status as a legendary god of destruction but it didn't so so well in Japan. I don't think it was a failure but it just wasn't memorable. Was it because of the excess violence that its predecessors never had or was it too dark and edgy a...
