Visual References in Boukenger with Other Sentai and Tokusatsu

Image
Time for an ice-breaker I assume. :-P Anyway I was thinking some Boukenger has some references to other Sentai and other Tokusatsu aside from the mecha. :-P The Boukenger suits remind me of the Turboranger suits in some in terms of helmet design. Inspired? Hmmm even Gogo V reminds me of Fiveman. The Gordom Heart is somewhat referential to the "Creation King" of Kamen Rider Black. Gaja by the shadow reminds of the Black Cross Fuehrer which was WAY BACK 29 sentai series before. Hmmm I guess it's just appropriate since Boukenger like Timeranger and Turboranger honor their predecessors in the past. Just as Ryuon reminds me of Zyuranger's Daizyujin but the clip above reminds of Captain Garoa of Fiveman for some reason. Junpei Morita almost looks like the actor who plays Captain Garoa in Fiveman. Also I think Ryuon sounds like Garoa. For some reason, I think his body has a body armor loosely designed from Kaura of Flashman. Dark Shadow's Shizuka for me is kind of a ...

The Engine Technology in Boukenger

Image
Boukenger has been having mysterious engines known as Parallel Engines. As we know, the Parallel Engines were used on ALL their mecha. They were written during the middle ages by Leon Giordana, the very basis for the parallel engines. However Gaja found these records and devised a counter engine known as the Gordom Engine. Gaja's first application of the Gordom Engine was on the Ashu warriors Gai and Rei and transformed them into Questers. They became so powerful that their suits could harm the Boukengers when the engines activate. However the SGS had a trick of its own- by modifying the design to go against the Gordom Engine. This power first went to Eiji Takaoka before the rest were given adjustments. It was but fitting for the storyline because he had a long time fight with the Ashu. However only Bouken Silver was extraordinarily fast from them. The Siren Builder was technically the first robot used by SGS to use the Neo-Parallel Engines to counter the Gordom Engines. Gaja ...

Sentai Teams Using Advanced Technology and Supernatural Powers

Image
Super Sentai powers were usually like this- divided between advanced technology and supernatural powers (even the mecha are purely mystical in that aspect). However some Super Sentai series are unique for combining both technological and supernatural powers in their fight against evil. I'd like to list them that do so: I think Changeman is the first to combine both technology and mysticism. Earth Force seems to be beyond scientific explanation if it ever exists. However the Gozma only used technology against them. Maskman combines the power of chi into their machines which are built scientifically. Hmmm I wonder how the machines last long? The Tube Empire combines both technology and the supernatural like they do. The Turborangers use the power of Seelon's magic and the genius of Dr. Dazai. The mecha is purely technological at first though. The Carrangers like the Turborangers had the same type of concept. Dappu gave them their powers by supernatural means but they figh...

Dr. Bias Got Biased

Image
Dr. Bias- perhaps one of the most enigmatic and most evil scientists during the 80s era of Sentai. However unlike most evil scientists, he was relatively calm and didn't yell at his subordinates. Instead he chose to scold them professionally and let them learn from their mistakes, quite different from most insane geniuses who would commit suicide over a single failure. He was the type to be systematic to prepare for the worst. How many people he deceived is not known but in the Devil's point of view, he appealed to the pride of the three students Dr. Kemp, Dr. Mazenda and Dr. Obular to let them join Volt. He was of course one to think he could shape the world as he saw fit- one mistake he would soon regret. Perhaps his only friend was his bodyguard Gash that he created, thus his "son". He also had help from Dr. Ashura who was an expert criminal mastermind he further educated. To ensure the undying loyalty of his followers who see him as a god, he created Gildos ...

Dr. Man- A Father's Dreadful Secret

Image
Dr. Man, the main villain of Chodenshi Bioman and arguably one of Earth's greatest geniuses and self-proclaimed greatest genius. Little was known about his background except that somehow the people of the Bio Planet was able to predict his rise. All that the Biomen at first knew is that he was a person of dreadful ambition to conquer the world and mechanize it as he saw fit and the leader of the New Empire Gear. He had one big problem aside from the Biomen- he had his bumbling assistants to worry about which his plans mostly failed. None of them were really succeeding in every mission and most of his victories were short lived. For example, while he was able to get the bio killer particles which effectively weakened the Biomen at one turn- Jun Yabuki replaced Mika Koizumi as the yellow ranger of the team. Another was when he created the Black Prince, however the mechanoid's instability led to its defeat. Finally the Biomen realized that Dr. Man is a human being when t...

Jetman's Beak Smashers

Image
Perhaps one of the things that began to arouse my curiosity in Jetman was when a second set of handguns were made. These were not ordinary guns but rather they were made to substitute the temporarily disabled Fire Bazooka when Glue Cockroach attacked them and left the Jet Striker unable to perform its function as the Fire Bazooka. Okay I'm not going to talk much about the drama behind the father and the daughter. I'd rather talk about it being the most unique pistol in Sentai history. Why? Unlike the other pistols, this one can actually fire bouncing shots and has an extra fast laser beam that can chase even the fastest enemy. In fact, it has been used to help pull a single member out of desperation.

The Jetmen's Hidden Personalities

Image
The fact is Jetman episode 11- "Dangerous Game" really interests me in the field of psychology. Thinking about it, the Jetmen did reveal "the other side" of them which may have been their apparent past weaknesses or something that nobody knew about. Here's my theory to why they had revealed those traits after they drank the dangerous juice of Vendind Machine Monster. Ryu Tendo- Maybe perhaps as a child, he was like Red Mask who didn't like to work. However that is not made clear or emphasized either. Not even his grandmother Kiyou Tendo revealed anything of his past. Guy Yuki- The revelation that he had leadership skills is somewhat proof of his denial and refusal to accept his destiny. This personality however prevailed from episode 32 to the end. Perhaps that experience launched the real him. Raita Ooshi- He was revealed to have a playboy side. However there has been no indication he was once irresponsible like Guy Yuki was in the past. Kaori Rokume...
